Chippy owner celebrates 50 years of fish (although he didn't look too thrilled to be selling it when he was FOUR)



The owner of a fish and 半導体素子 shop is celebrating 50 years behind the 反対する, after serving up more than a million fish suppers.

Keith Sturgess began working in his father's shop, the West End Fish 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業 in Street, Somerset, in 1962, 老年の just 16.

Since then the 商売/仕事 has served some five million dinners to 顧客s, a 4半期/4分の1 of which are 概算の to have been wrapped up by Mr Sturgess, now 65.

The father-of-one now finds himself serving the granchildren of 顧客s he served as children.

'If I'm honest it makes me feel very old, but it is lovely to see,' he said. 'It's やめる nice to see that the new 世代s still come, it makes me very proud.

'It's nice to see people you have known. You know the families, you know when they have babies and when they get ill. It's just lovely to see them.'

Mr Sturgess's family history in 半導体素子 shops dates 支援する to the 1930s when his father, John, and his uncle, Harry, ran one in Wincanton, Somerset.

He remembers helping out at the Wincanton shop throughout his childhood and was eager to join the 商売/仕事 after leaving school.

At the age of 16, he finished school on a Friday afternoon and started working 十分な-time in the shop in Street the に引き続いて Monday.

He took over the 商売/仕事 from his father in 1975 with his wife, Hazel, and has since welcomed his son, John, and daughter-in-法律, Cher, into the 企業.

Keith said: 'When I first started we used to stay open until midnight to 対処する with the 急ぐ from the 地元の cinema, but that is now の近くにd.

'These days we are really busy in the 早期に evenings, and stay open until 8pm.'

Mr Sturgess has watched other takeaways spring up around him but keeps 正規の/正選手 顧客s by concentrating on good 質 fish.

'If they want a pizza they can go to a pizza shop, we're a family 商売/仕事 and a very 伝統的な fish and 半導体素子 shop,' he said.

'I see that as our market really, if we can do the fish and 半導体素子s as best we can people will keeping coming 支援する.

'I suppose we do sell burgers and chicken now but 80 per cent of our 商売/仕事 still comes from cod and 半導体素子s.'
