Dr Seuss's daughter 嘆願d for 安全な return of 2ft bronze Lorax statue stolen from writer's 広い地所

Much-loved children's writer Dr Seuss is famous for The Cat in the Hat, but now his family has been embroiled in a new - いっそう少なく charming - riddle: The Thieves in the Garden.

A two-foot bronze statue of the poet's Lorax charater has been stolen from his 未亡人's San Diego 所有物／資産／財産, leaving the family broken-hearted.

Audrey Geisel, 90, noticed that the statue and its tree-stump base were 行方不明の on Monday morning, and believes they were stolen over the 週末.

Carl Romero, who 行為／法令／行動するs as 所有物／資産／財産 経営者／支配人 for Mrs Geisel, told the San Diego Union Tribune that he 設立する 足跡s which 示唆する the thieves dragged the 300-続けざまに猛撃する statue to an 接近 road and 解除するd it over a 盗品故買者.

The Lorax is the only Seuss character to be 代表するd at the 広い地所, and was cast in bronze by Lark Grey Dimond-Cates, Audrey Geisel's daughter and Dr. Seuss's stepdaughter.

She told the Tribune: 'I want very 不正に to get our little Lorax 支援する home where he belongs. Wherever he is, he’s 脅すd, lonely and hungry.

'He’s not just a hunk of metal to us. He was a family pet.'

The 環境の fable sees the Lorax, a squat, orange-whiskered creature, speak out for the Truffula trees against 法人組織の／企業の greed.

によれば the LA Times, the statue stood beneath a hundred-year-old Italian 石／投石する Pine which 奮起させるd the tree from the 調書をとる／予約する Horton Hears a Who.

It is valued at around $10,000, and features the Lorax perched on a 木造の tree stump.

The statue's base is inscribed with the word 'unless' - a 言及／関連 to the creature's 警告 that 'unless' someone 工場／植物s the last remaining tree seed, they will disappear from the world.

Dimon-Cate cast two of the sculptures, and while one had its home on the family 所有物／資産／財産, the other stands at the Dr. Seuss 国家の 記念の in the author's hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts.

The writer's daughter said she hoped the Lorax has been stolen as a result of his fame, and not to be melted 負かす／撃墜する.

'I hope he hasn't been taken across the 国境 into Tijuana for 捨てる,' she said.

'Worst-事例／患者 シナリオ, I'll get the foundry to create another one, but he won't be the same.'

Mr Romero said the statue had gone 行方不明の の直前に 安全 cameras were 任命する／導入するd in the garden.

He 確認するd that the police are aware of the 窃盗, but said Mrs Geisel does not want to punish anyone - she just wants to the statue 支援する.

Dr Seuss, whose real 指名する was Theodor Geisel, died in 1991 at the age of 87.
