Much-loved children's writer Dr Seuss is famous for The Cat in the Hat, but now his family has been embroiled in a new - いっそう少なく charming - riddle: The Thieves in the Garden.

A two-foot bronze statue of the poet's Lorax charater has been stolen from his 未亡人's San Diego 所有物/資産/財産, leaving the family broken-hearted.

Audrey Geisel, 90, noticed that the statue and its tree-stump base were 行方不明の on Monday morning, and believes they were stolen over the 週末.

The writer's daughter said she hoped the Lorax has been stolen as a result of his fame, and not to be melted 負かす/撃墜する.
