America's poorest 郡: Proud Appalachians who live without running water or 力/強力にする in 地域 where 40% 落ちる below poverty line

It was a 郡 formed 19 years before the Civil War.

But in the towns lying between 国境s in Owsley, in the coal fields of eastern Kentucky, a portrait of Americans shows a community that appears frozen in time, where many still live without water or electricity.

But 居住(者)s take pride in their community's history; and 地元のs are driven to help one another through hard times.

Lowell Morris is paid $8 per hour to do the work while his friend, Mose Noble, volunteers to help, even though he relies on 政治の 補佐官 and the kindess of 隣人s to help when they can.

His modest trailer in Booneville has no electricity, and no running water. マリファナs and pans 流出/こぼす from the kitchen 沈む and litter the 床に打ち倒す, sodden with dirt and worn through the years.

The 条件 of his home doesn't appear to bother his nine-year-old 甥, Johnny Noble, who runs barefoot outside, and plays with matchbox cars on a (米)棚上げする/(英)提議する 挟むd in between the clutter.

Mr Noble's 状況/情勢 is not unfamiliar to those in the 地域.

The Owsley 郡 High School prom is a grand 事件/事情/状勢 for 十代の少年少女s. Married students Starr and Travis 吊りくさび celebrated before the dance with their three-week-old daughter, Ariel. Their classmates, Drucilla Smith and Brittany Brewer, are pictured with their families putting the finishing touches on their tulle dresses dyed pink and baby blue.

Family and community members are 招待するd to see the students 提起する/ポーズをとる for photos at the gym, celebrating with them the teenage 儀式 of passage - one of the last before a life built on hard work and 責任/義務 as a means of 生き残り.
