Could the U.S. give up 開始する Rushmore? Iconic 場所／位置 is on 名簿（に載せる）／表（にあげる） of 'sacred lands' UN says must be returned to Native Americans

A UN human 権利s 公式の／役人 is 勧めるing the U.S. to turn over 支配（する）／統制する of lands considered to be sacred to Native Americans, 含むing the 場所／位置 of the 開始する Rushmore 国家の 記念の.

James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the 権利s of indigenous peoples, 明かすd his 推薦s in Geneva on Friday after 完全にするing a 12-day visit to the U.S. where he met with 代表者／国会議員s of indigenous peoples in six 明言する／公表するs.

The fact-finder also had a chance to 会合，会う members of the Obama 行政 and 簡潔な／要約するd the U.S. 上院 委員会 on Indian 事件／事情／状勢s, but no member of 議会 agreed to 会合，会う with him.

'I have heard stories that make evident the 深遠な 傷つける that indigenous peoples continue to feel because of t he history of 圧迫 they have 直面するd,' Mr Anaya said in a 声明.

For over a century, he said, the 政府 had 掴むd lands and 資源s from Native Americans, 除去するd children from their families and communities, 原因（となる）d the loss of languages, broke 条約s with tribes and 抑圧するd the indigenous peoples on the grounds of racial 差別.

'The sense of loss, alienation and 侮辱／冷遇 is 普及（する） throughout Indian Country,' Mr Anaya said.

He welcomed the U.S. 決定／判定勝ち（する） to 是認する the UN 宣言 on the 権利s of Indigenous Peoples in 2010, 逆転するing a previous 投票（する）, but said that more must be done.

Mr Anaya's findings will be 含むd in a final 報告（する）／憶測 submitted to the UN Human 権利s 会議. While not binding, the 推薦s carry moral 負わせる that can 影響（力） 政府s.

He also said indigenous peoples feel they have too little 支配（する）／統制する over geographic 地域s considered sacred to them, like the San Francisco 頂点（に達する）s in Arizona and the 黒人／ボイコット Hills in South Dakota. Mr Anaya 示唆するd such lands should be returned to native peoples.

開始する Rushmore, a popular tourist attraction, is 位置を示すd in the 黒人／ボイコット Hills, which the Sioux tribes consider to be sacred and have 領土の （人命などを）奪う，主張するs to based on an 1868 条約.

In 1980, the 最高裁判所 支配するd that the land was 掴むd 不法に and ordered the 政府 to 支払う／賃金 補償（金）. The Sioux, however, 拒絶するd the money, calling for the return of the now public lands.?

Mr Anaya said he will make 明確な／細部 推薦s on these and other 問題／発行するs in a 十分な 報告（する）／憶測 to be 解放（する）d in September.??

Last month, the U.S. 司法（官） Department 発表するd that the 政府 had agreed to 支払う／賃金 more than $1billio n to 40 Native American tribes to settle 訴訟s over the use of 部族の lands held in 信用 by the 連邦の 政府, but 偉業／利用するd by 私的な companies for 木材／素質, 採掘 and farming.?

The U.S. is home to some two million Native Americans, nearly half of them living on 310 保留（地）／予約s. While some tribes have 栄えるd thanks to the にわか景気ing 賭事ing 商売／仕事, others are 追跡するing 国家の 普通の／平均（する）s in income and health.
