A son of the late Sen Robert F. Kennedy was »ö¼Â¾å¤Î¡¿ÂåÍý on instinct when he kicked a nurse as she tried to stop him from taking his newborn son out of the hospital, a ÊÛ¸î lawyer said in Ë¡ÄºÛȽ½ê on Monday.

In ³«»Ï À¼ÌÀs at Douglas Kennedy's ¤¤¤ä¤¬¤é¤» and child endangerment ºÛȽ¡¤¸øȽ, ÊÛ¸î»Î¡¿ÂåÍý¿Í¡¿¸¡»ö Celia Gordon said Kennedy 'just ¼êÇÛÃæ¤Î¡¤¤ª¿Ò¤Í¼Ô to take his baby out for some fresh ¶õµ¤¡¿¸øɽ¤¹¤ë' on January 7 at Northern Westchester Hospital.

Nurses overreacted abrasively, she said, ¼çÍ×¤Ê to a scuffle.

But ¸¡»¡´±¡¤¸¡»ö Amy Puerto said Kennedy had to be stopped because he was ¿¯³²¤¹¤ë¡¿°ãÈ¿¤¹¤ëing hospital À¯ºö.

She said he ¼­Âह¤ëd to obey the nurses, one of whom was Éé½ý¤µ¤»¤ëd when he 'kicked her so hard in the abdomen that she fell to the ¾²¤ËÂǤÁÅݤ¹.'

A second nurse was ½ý¤Ä¤±¤ë when Kennedy ¿·¤¿¤ÊŸ³«d her arm, Puerto said.

Two hospital-wide alarms - 'code purple' and 'code pink' ? were called in to Àë¸À¤¹¤ë a disorderly ¾õ¶·¡¿¾ðÀª and a ¹ÔÊýÉÔÌÀ¤Î baby.

The nurses had ¡Ê¿ÍÌ¿¤Ê¤É¤ò¡ËÃ¥¤¦¡¤¼çÄ¥¤¹¤ëd they ʬÎह¤ëd the ¾õ¶·¡¿¾ðÀª as a code pink because Kennedy had been ¡Æviolently¡ Ç shaking the child.

Both Ì£Êý¤¹¤ës agreed that Kennedy, with his son in his Éð´ï, approached the nurses' ±Ø¡¿ÇÛÃÖ¤¹¤ë with a request to take the baby outside.

Nurse Angela Adamo said she tried to dissuade him because his request 'didn't seem to make much sense to me.'

She said: 'He grabbed my left ¼êÅϤ¹... and ¿·¤¿¤ÊŸ³«d my arm. He kicked Carrie and she went Èô¹Ôµ¡¤Ç¹Ô¤¯ing in one direction and he went in the other direction.'

Gordon said that when one nurse reached for the baby, Kennedy kicked the nurse instinctively.
'He was trying to keep her from taking his baby,' she said.

She also said the 'code pi nk' was ÉÔŬÀÚ¤Ê because hospital À¯ºö ¼¨¤¹s it's for an Ͷ²ý.

Adamo said she never thought that Kennedy would not return with the baby.

Puerto said Kennedy did not stop until he Áø¶ø¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ëd a °ÂÁ´ guard on a stairwell. She ¿½¤·Î©¤Æ¤é¤ì¤¿¡¿µ¿¤ï¤·¤¤ he said to the guard, 'Do you know who I am?'

Gordon said the nurses ¡Ê¿ÍÌ¿¤Ê¤É¤ò¡ËÃ¥¤¦¡¤¼çÄ¥¤¹¤ëing ½ý³², who are ¿äÄꤹ¤ë¡¿Í½ÁÛ¤¹¤ëd to ¾Ú¸À¤¹¤ë later in the ºÛȽ¡¤¸øȽ, ·×²è¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë to ¹ðÁʤ¹¤ë Kennedy and have already ¼ûÍס¦Í׵᤹¤ëd thousands of dollars. That gives them ¿äÏÀ¤¹¤ë¡¿Íýͳ to ±³¡Ê¤ò¤Ä¤¯¡Ë, she said.

The hospital's °ÂÁ´ Ĺ¡¤»ØƳ¼Ô, Eric Hartmann, ¾Ú¸À¤¹¤ëd that he called ³«»Ï¤¹¤ë Kisco police when he heard about the ½ÐÍè»ö/»ö·ï.

On cross-examination, he Äêɾ¤Î¤¢¤ë that he did not have much ¡Ê·Ù»¡¤Ê¤É¤Ø¤Î¡ËÌ©¹ð¡¤¹ðÁʡʾõ¡Ë about what had happened and told police it was 'some Æù¿Æ¡¤¿ÆÎàd of Êݸ¹´Î± thing.'

Douglas Kennedy, 44, said that ¸ºß haunted by the death of his father meant he could not stop himself from grabbing his newborn son in °ãÈ¿ of hospital »ÙÇÛ¤¹¤ës.

Kennedy is the 10th of 11 children of Robert and Ethel Kennedy. His father was assassinated in 1968 - when Douglas was just a year old.

ÂçÅýÎÎ John F. Kennedy, his uncle, was assassinated in 1963.

Kennedy's ÂáÊá¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë was the beginning of a difficult year for the Kennedys in New York. His sister-in-ˡΧ, Mary Kennedy, hanged herself in May in Bedford.

His sister, Kerry Kennedy, has pleaded not Í­ºá¤Î to ËãÌô-impaired ±¿Æ°ing after an »ö¸Î on Interstate 684.
