Today, the Baghdad Zoo is a popular 目的地 for families wearing their finest 着せる／賦与するs and enjoying spring 天候 before the 気温 climbs. Nearly 10 years ago, the zoo's staff fled just before Baghdad fell to U.S. 軍隊／機動隊s.

All but 35 of the animals died. Later, an American platoon 始める，決める up a small base at the zoo, where they 保護するd the 施設 from 略奪するing while it was rebuilt.

Abu Nawas Park, where 孤児s 匂いをかぐd glue and slept beneath American 戦車／タンクs, now too is a 港／避難所 for families and a place for die-hard サッカー players to practice in the afternoons.

The Iraqi 国家の Museum lost countless treasu res during a 大混乱／混沌とした period before Americans moved in to 安全な・保証する it. Today, the grounds are under 革新. より小数の than half of the antiquities have been 回復するd.

The Karrada 地区 is a bustling 商業の 中心 of shops and restaurants that stay open late into the night. During the bloodiest stretch of the war, these shops were shuttered by sundown.

The Iraqi 資本／首都 and the people who live here still 耐える scars, some invisible.

On March 14, 2013, a 一連の coord inated 爆破s struck the 司法（官） 省 and killed dozens.

Hours after that attack, a man sat in Firdous Square and watched his three children play, running circles around the pedestal that held Saddam Hussein's statue before U.S. 海洋s pulled it 負かす／撃墜する.

非，不，無 of the children had even been born when the war began. But when an 爆発 shook the square from yards (メーターs) away, they didn't even flinch.
