十代の少年少女 奮起させるs food アレルギー 法案 for safer restaurants in Rhode Island after her younger sister is 繰り返して 入院させるd after eating out

A 十代の少年少女 has 首尾よく 押し進めるd through a food アレルギー 法案 in Rhode Island after she was 奮起させるd to fight for safer restaurant 基準s by her 厳しく allergic younger sister.

Danielle Mongeau, 18, emailed her 関心s to Rhode Island 明言する/公表する Sen. Louis DiPalma in December 2011 and they sought to pass a 法案 creating a food アレルギー 認識/意識性 program for restaurants.

After Danielle spoke at a 明言する/公表する 委員会, the 法案 was passed last year and she and her family will finally be able to eat out with greater 緩和する after the 法案 takes 影響 in July 2013.

She was 奮起させるd in her fight by her younger sister Lauren, 16, who has eaten out just seven times and has been 入院させるd on five of those occasions with anaphylactic shock.

Her life-脅すing allergic reaction can be 誘発する/引き起こすd by even the smallest traces of eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, beef, lamb, 気が狂って, sesame seeds and 情熱.

It means that she has had a fraught 関係 with restaurants, her sister told ABC News.

Danielle said restaurant staff were often rude when the family told them about Lauren's アレルギーs, and once they were asked to leave as she was seen eating food from home, rather than off the menu.

'She usually chooses not to eat at all,' Danielle said. 'She still wants to be part of it because she's in high school and just wants to be social and have a good time with her friends. It's a struggle that has 本気で 影響する/感情d her life.'

The girls' mother said Danielle, who herself 苦しむs from a tree nut アレルギー, had always been 決定するd to 保護する her sister.

'She has 証言,証人/目撃するd Lauren going into anaphylactic shock and it's scary,' Debbie Mongeau told ABC. 'I remember her as a little girl 説, "Mommy, I don't want Lauren to die".'

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: WHAT DOES THE BILL REQUIRE?

The 法律制定 passed in Rhode Island is modelled on a Massachusetts 法律 that went into 影響 in 2011. It 要求するs:

  • All food-service 設立s must have a food 保護 経営者/支配人 who is trained and certified in food-アレルギー 認識/意識性
  • アレルギー-認識/意識性 posters must be placed in staff areas to tell all food-service 労働者s about their part in 妨げるing allergic reactions
  • Restaurants must 地位,任命する notices on menus and menu boards asking 顧客s to tell servers if they have any food アレルギーs

So in December 2011, Danielle emailed Sen. DiPalma to ask him to introduce a 法案 類似の to the one already in place in Massachusetts.

It 要求するs restaurants to 地位,任命する 調印するs about food allergens and to encourage 顧客s to tell servers about any アレルギーs they have. At least one 従業員 would need to を受ける training about アレルギーs.

The email told DiPalma that her family had eaten out just seven times without packing a meal for Lauren, and on five times she ended up in hospital.

DiPalma said the email caught his 注目する,もくろむ; it was just one of two that he has ever had from 十代の少年少女s.

'She's a phenomenal individual,' DiPalma said of Danielle. 'We didn't need to reinvent what's already good practice out there in Massachusetts, and that's what we chose to do.'

When he heard from Danielle, he said he wa s surprised there was not a 類似の 法律 already in place, and submitted the 法案.

'This is 40,000 people [with アレルギーs] we're 影響する/感情ing, so it's the 権利 thing to do,' he told WPRI.
