Best-selling author Iain Banks dies of 癌 at 59, just weeks after marrying his girlfriend when he realised he was terminally ill

'Without 苦痛': Author Iain Banks passed away yesterday morning
Best-selling author Iain Banks lost his 戦う／戦い with 癌 yesterday ? weeks after marrying his partner and just days before the 出版（物） of his final novel.
The 59-year-old, who wrote The Wasp Factory, stunned his many fans in April when he 明らかにする／漏らすd he was 苦しむing from gall bladder 癌 and that he? was ‘ありそうもない’ to 生き残る longer than? a yea r.
With typical dark humour he said he was ‘公式に very 貧しく’ and 明らかにする／漏らすd he had? asked his long-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 partner Adele? Hartley, 42, an author and horror film curator, if she would ‘do me the honour of becoming my 未亡人’.
They married in a humanist 儀式 in the Scottish Highlands over the 復活祭 週末 before a short honeymoon in Venice and Paris.
From then she jokingly referred to herself as ‘長，指導者 未亡人-in-waiting’.
Yesterday she 問題／発行するd a 声明 through Banks’s website, 説: ‘Iain died in the 早期に hours this morning. His death was 静める and without 苦痛.’
Banks passed away just three weeks after 存在 現在のd with finished copies of his final 調書をとる／予約する The Quarry, which is about a man who is dying of 癌, ahead of its 解放（する） on June 20.
In a 声明 his publisher Little, Brown said he was ‘an irreplaceable part of the literary world’ and ‘one of the country’s best-loved 小説家s’.
Banks, who also wrote science fiction novels as Iain M Banks, 明らかにする／漏らすd his 終点 illness on his blog in April, a month after his diagnosis.
He wrote: ‘The 底（に届く） line, now, I’m afraid, is that as a late 行う／開催する／段階 gall bladder 癌 患者, I’m 推定する／予想するd to live for “several months” and it’s 極端に ありそうもない I’ll live beyond a year.’?
賞賛するing the ‘professionalism’ of the NHS, he said a course of chemotherapy might 延長する his life for ‘several months’ but that he would 身を引く from all planned public 約束／交戦s.

Later Banks, who was born in Fife, Scotland, used his website Banksophilia, 始める，決める up to 供給する updates on his health, to thank his fans for their support.
He said: ‘I feel treasured. I am 深く，強烈に flattered and touched, and I can’t 否定する I’ve been made to feel very special indeed.’

THE SILENT KILLER: GALLBLADDER CANCER
The gallbladder concentrates and 蓄える／店s 胆汁 from the 肝臓 as part of the digestive system. Gallbladder 癌 is rare in the UK but is more ありふれた の中で women.

Vanda Taylor, of 癌 研究 UK, said: ‘Gallbladder 癌 is seldom 診断するd 早期に and therefore can be very difficult to 扱う／治療する 首尾よく.’
