悲劇の 苦境 of the 'Tribe of Ghosts':? Inside the centre where Tanzania's outcast albinos find 避難 from 殺害者s who kill them for their 団体／死体 parts

MURDERED FOR THEIR HAIR, BONES AND GENITALS: THE HORRIFYING PLIGHT OF ALBINOS IN TANZANIA

Albinism is a genetic 条件 characterised by a 欠陥／不足 of melanin pigmentation in the 肌, hair and 注目する，もくろむs which 保護するs from the sun's 紫外 rays.

In many African nat イオンs - but most 一般的に in Tanzania - albinos are butchered in the street.

Their remains are used in the macabre human potions used by 伝統的な healers to 扱う／治療する the sick

Believing it will bring them good luck and big catches, fishermen on the shores Lake Victoria weave albino hair into 逮捕するs.

Bones are ground 負かす／撃墜する and buried in the earth by 鉱夫s, who believe they will be transformed into diamonds.

The genitals are also いつかs made into 治療s to 上げる 性の potency.

One of the albinos is 17-year-old Angel, who was visited by her mother from a remote and poor part of the country for the first time in four years.

When she was born her father called her 'a gift from God'.

But his joy was not that of a new father - he 手配中の，お尋ね者 to butcher the girl and sell her 団体／死体 parts for thousands of dollars, a fortune to the 普通の／平均（する） family in Tanzania

Angel's mother was filled with love for her daughter and managed to 阻止する the father for years, but when Angel was 13 he led a group to attack her.

Angel got away, but her mother's own parents were killed in the attack as they fought to 保護する their granddaughter.

But Jacquelyn says she will never escape the prejudice that follows her wherever she goes.

'There's a market の近くに t o the centre and the women went together in a group as a safety 手段 because it's harder to 誘拐する someone in a group,' says Jacquelyn. 'Angel was in a shop and the woman behind the 反対する couldn't? look her in the 注目する，もくろむs.

'She just took her money. That was something that struck me.'

Ignorance about the 条件 is rife - there is even a belief that their mothers slept with white men to give them the 条件.

'いつかs it's いっそう少なく about beliefs than pure 経済的なs,' says Jacquelyn. '[But] there was this 公式文書，認める of strength in all of the ones I met; all of them had hopes for something greater.'

'One 手配中の，お尋ね者 to be a 政治家，政治屋 to help other albinos, another 手配中の，お尋ね者 to be a lawyer to fight for their 権利s, one 手配中の，お尋ね者 to be a teacher to educate people about the 条件 and another 手配中の，お尋ね者 to be a 新聞記者／雑誌記者 to 報告（する）／憶測 about people with albinism.'

But it is a long and 法外な slope to climb before Tanzania truly wakes up to the terrible 苦境 that 直面するs each albino born into this world.

In February 攻撃者s collecting 団体／死体 parts of albinos for witchcraft 切り開く／タクシー／不正アクセスd off the 手渡す of a seven-year-old boy, 公式の／役人s said.

The boy, called Mwigulu Magessa, was 待ち伏せ／迎撃するd by the men as he walked home with his friends in Tanzania. He 生き残るd but many such 犠牲者s of ignorance are not so lucky.

Just days earlier an albino mother of four had her arm chopped off by machete-（権力などを）行使するing men and a month before that an albino child died in Tanzania's Tabora 地域 after 攻撃者s 切り開く／タクシー／不正アクセスd off his arm.'

There is very little 存在 done by the 政府 other than putting them in centres to 確実にする their safety,' Jacquelyn 追加するs. 'They are just 広範囲にわたる them under the rug, there isn't a long-称する，呼ぶ／期間／用語 解答.

'It was hard to leave the children in this 状況／情勢 and I hope my photography has put a human 直面する on the 問題／発行する and I hope they see themselves as I see them - beautiful people who deserve a chance in life.'

Jacquelyn 共同製作するd with the 非，不，無-利益（をあげる） organisation Asante Mariamu during her trip to the centre, which is housed in the Kabanga 最初の／主要な School, a 政府 搭乗 school for 無能にするd children.

The organisation is 献身的な to raising 認識／意識性 about the 現在進行中の human 権利s 危機 衝撃ing people with albinism in East Africa.

They 捜し出す to teach people with albinism about the 条件, so that they can better understand how to 保護する themselves from 肌 癌.

They also work to 追い散らす the myths surrounding the 条件 to 増加する 受託 in society.

供給するing direct 救済 with sun 保護の gear and sunscreen, Asante Mariamu also 捜し出すs to 権力を与える people with albinism by 供給するing 適切な時期s for education so that they can become 決定的な and 価値のある members of society.
