Sameer Babar, 35, from Luton, Bedfordshire, stabbed his 隣人 Leonard Flower to death in an 'unexplained' attack

A 宗教的な fanatic who was unknowingly 苦しむing from paranoid schizophrenia stabbed his 隣人 to death in an 'unexplained and frenzied attack’.

Leonard Flower, 67, known as Len, was stabbed 17 times - 含むing through the heart - by Sameer Babar, 35, as he was doing 半端物 職業s in his garage in Luton, Bedfordshire.

His wife, Linda, to whom he had been married for 47 years, was just metres away inside the couple's home when the 残虐な attack took place.

But Mrs Flower only 設立する out about her husband's death when he was 設立する lying in a pool of 血 by a couple who were 配達するing ちらしs around the area.

During the 審理，公聴会 yesterday at Luton 栄冠を与える 法廷，裁判所, Babar 否定するd 殺人, but pleaded 有罪の to 過失致死 on the grounds of 減らすd 責任／義務.

The 法廷，裁判所 was told Babar, who lived opposite Mr Flower, a retired computer 分析家, had fled the scene after carrying out the attack on October 22 last year by stealing the couple’s car.

He then drove north up the M1 motorway but was 逮捕（する）d five hours later in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Psychiatrists now believe Babar - who has written two 調書をとる／予約するs 含む／封じ込めるing extreme 宗教的な rhetoric - was 苦しむing from paranoid schizophrenia in the years 主要な up to the attack.

He has now been 拘留するd 無期限に／不明確に under the Mental Health 行為／法令／行動する.

Speaking after the 審理，公聴会, Mrs Flower said she was 'heartbroken and 荒廃させるd' about her husband's death.

She said: 'We have lost a good husband, father, grandfather and a 肉親，親類d man who was liked and 尊敬（する）・点d by everyone who met him.'

At the 審理，公聴会, 裁判官 Michael Kay QC said Babar's behaviour had been 'bizarre' in the year or two before the attack, but there had been no 警告 that he would be violent.

The 法廷，裁判所 was told that Babar had written two 調書をとる／予約するs in 2011 and 2012 含む／封じ込めるing extreme 宗教的な rhetoric, which had led to angry reactions from 地元の イスラム教寺院s.

Babar had also been planning to 持つ／拘留する a lecture at Luton library and had been referred to a 危機 mental health team, to be 扱う／治療するd for 不景気, after 接触する with police.

The 法廷，裁判所 was told that the 被告 had even been visited by police the day before the 殺人，大当り but had 辞退するd to let them in. Police had no 力／強力にする of 入ること／参加（者） and were 軍隊d to leave.

The 殺人，大当り took place around lunchtime the next day.

検察官，検事 Beverley Cripps said: 'The 被告 was in the 支配する of mental illness, which has since been 診断するd as paranoid schizophrenia.

After Babar was 設立する by police, he was 拘留するd in a mental health 部隊 until the 法廷，裁判所 事例／患者. He pleaded 有罪の to 過失致死 on the grounds of 減らすd 責任／義務

'He had been 扱う／治療するd for 不景気 but not 重要な mental illness.'

When Babar was 逮捕（する）d he was fit to be interviewed, the 法廷，裁判所 was told. A month later he made a 声明 説 he had little memory of the day.

A psychiatrist who is now 扱う／治療するing Babar told the 法廷，裁判所 that Babar was probably 苦しむing from paranoid schizophrenia for a number of years, but it had not been 診断するd.

裁判官 Kay said: 'Words are 不十分な to 述べる the extent of the 悲劇 which 攻撃する，衝突する the Flower family 完全に out of the blue on October 22 last year.

'One’s heart goes out to that family. He was a good husband, father and grandfather, a man liked and 尊敬（する）・点d by many people. Nothing anyone can do can put 事柄s 権利.

Mrs Flower said her husband was '肉親，親類d, generous and caring' and that he was liked and 尊敬（する）・点d by everyone he met

'There is no 疑問 that this was a wholly unexplained and frenzied attack.

'There was no suggestion of any ill feeling or problems between you and anyone in the Flowers family.'

Speaking after the 審理，公聴会, Mrs Flower said: 'I’m heartbroken and 荒廃させるd at the way my husband’s life was taken.

'Len was a 肉親，親類d, generous and caring husband for 47 years - still fit and able. He helped anyone who asked for a favour.

'As a computer 分析家 he was an intelligent man, 述べるd as such by all who knew him and also very practical.

'I am lost without him as I am housebound and he was my 十分な-time carer.

Mr Flower was only 設立する when a couple who were 配達するing ちらしs in the area spotted him in his garage, lying in a pool of 血. He was pronounced dead at the scene

'We did everything together. The fact that a good, decent man died in such a way 傷つけるs me too much.'

上級の 調査／捜査するing Officer 探偵，刑事 視察官 Liz Mead, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major 罪，犯罪 部隊, said: 'The Flower family find themselves in 悲劇の circumstances.

'They now have to 対処する without Len who should be enjoying his 退職 with his wife.

'Len was killed in his own garage, where he should have been 安全な, but on that October afternoon Sameer Babar carried out a violent attack which has now changed the course of so many innocent lives.

'The 医療の 専門家s have agreed that at the time of Mr Flower’s death, Sameer Babar was 苦しむing from a mental illness and continues to receive the appropriate 医療の attention for his 条件.

'Today sees some 終結 for the Flower family but nothing that has happened in this 法廷，裁判所 room will fill the 無効の that Len’s death has left.'
