The Church of England was 非難するd last night after 明らかにする/漏らすing it will continue 投資するing in Wonga.

Church leaders defended the 決定/判定勝ち(する) 説 they believe their money can 改善する the behaviour of companies that are いっそう少なく than ‘morally perfect’.

It (機の)カム as the City of London Police 発表するd it is considering 開始する,打ち上げるing a 犯罪の 調査 into the 議論の的になる payday 貸付金 会社/堅い’s 偽の 合法的な letters sent to tens of thousands of 顧客s.

Regulators had 以前 主張するd that an order to 支払う/賃金 £2.6million in 補償(金) to the 45,000 受取人s w as 十分な 罰.?

The church’s 決定/判定勝ち(する) comes after a review by its 倫理的な 投資 (a)忠告の/(n)警報 Group, the 団体/死体 which counsels church financiers on the morality of their 投資s.

The 報告(する)/憶測 was 誘発するd after the 大司教 of Canterbury last year criticised Wonga without realising the CofE’s 財政上の arm, the Church Commissioners, had holdings in the 会社/堅い, which are believed to 量 to between £75,000 and £90,000.

And in January, the Bishop of Manchester, the 権利 Reverend David Walker, said that Wonga’s lending was sinful, 追加するing: ‘In the first few pages of the Bible, the serpent 申し込む/申し出s Adam an apple.

He’s tempted by the 約束 of a quick 大勝する to God-like 知恵. What he’s not reckoning on is just how much it will 結局最後にはーなる costing.’ ?

In the 報告(する)/憶測, group chairman James Featherby said that the 列/漕ぐ/騒動 had ‘最高潮の場面d some misconceptions about 倫理的な 投資, and in particular that its 客観的な is to 達成する a morally perfect 大臣の地位’.?

He said: ‘It is no more 現実主義の to 願望(する) that they 投資する only in morally perfect companies than it is to 願望(する) that any of us should relate only to morally perfect individuals.

‘When engaging with companies the 投資するing 団体/死体s 捜し出す 肯定的な 勢い not perfection. We usually only recommend divestment where we see no 本物の 願望(する) for change.’

CHURCH OF ENGLAND'S £6BILLION PORTFOLIO

The Church of England 支配(する)/統制するs one of the biggest and most powerful 投資 基金s in the country.

The Church Commissioners, who 持続する the historic 資産s of the church and 基金 15 per cent of everything it spends, operate on such a 規模 that the 投資 in Wonga looks like the merest trifle.

Last year the commissioners’ holdings grew by £600million to reach a 記録,記録的な/記録する £6.1billion.

Their 長,指導者, the First Church 広い地所s Commissioner, former 新聞記者/雑誌記者 Andreas Whittam Smith, said: ‘It was a very? good year for the 大臣の地位.? Everything that could go 権利 did go 権利.’

But such success, as the 報告(する)/憶測 from the Commissioner’s 倫理的な 投資 (a)忠告の/(n)警報 Group made (疑いを)晴らす yesterday, is not based on squeamish thinking about the companies into which the 投資 goes.

The wealth of the 基金 is based on the centuries-old landholdings of the church, together with さまざまな windfalls such as Queen Anne’s Bounty, 手渡すd over in the 早期に 18th Century to help 貧窮化した clergymen, and which is now reckoned to be 価値(がある) around a third of total 資産s.

He 追加するd that occasionally 倫理的な 投資家s, such as the church, would ‘graze their 膝s as they interact with a コンビナート/複合体 and あいまいな 商売/仕事 world. But in our 見解(をとる), it is better to stay on the field of play than to sit on the sidelines’.

The 投資 in Wonga, arranged through a ‘pooled 基金’ directed by a third party, would be 扱う/治療するd によれば the parable of the 少しのd in the St Matthew gospel, Mr Featherby said.

In the parable, 少しのd are 許すd to grow with the wheat until 収穫 time, and only then separated from the wheat? and 燃やすd.

He went on to 正当化する the 決定/判定勝ち(する) to keep the 投資 by 説: ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick.’

Edward Mason, the group’s 長官, said that the 熱狂的興奮状態 surrounding Wonga over the past few days had been ‘very 関心ing’, 追加するing: ‘We don’t like the 商売/仕事 and we would rather we weren’t in it.’

But he said the 可能性のある loss from 身を引くing was ‘disproportionate’. Because of the way pooled 基金s operate, a 壇・綱領・公約 of 投資s would have to be pulled.

Police could 再考する 開始する,打ち上げるing a 犯罪の 調査 into the payday 貸す人 Wonga, it has been 明らかにする/漏らすd

As a result the commissioners are said to have calculated that they will lose between £3million and £9million if they take their money out of Wonga.

The 大司教, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, was on holiday and unavailable for comment yesterday.

一方/合間 the Reverend 棒 Thomas, a Plymouth vicar who is chairman of the 影響力のある evangelical group 改革(する), criticised the church’s 決定/判定勝ち(する), 説: ‘I do not think the Church Commissioners have 始める,決める out to do anything other than 行為/法令/行動する in the best 利益/興味s of the Church.

‘But once the facts are 現在のd to them, it is up to the commissioners to do something about it.’

Andrea Minichiello Williams, of 圧力団体 Christian 関心, and a member of the church’s General 教会会議, said: ‘The 職業 of the Church is to tell the truth, and it should not be doing things that do a disservice to that 仕事.’?

The group’s 報告(する)/憶測 also said it would introduce lower 倫理的な 投資 thresholds.

In 未来, it will 身を引く money from 会社/堅いs with more than 10 per cent of their 商売/仕事 in タバコ, 賭事ing, 高金利 lending or human embryonic cloning, instead of the 現在の threshold of 25 per cent.
