Doctor to begin baby cloning

A fertility doctor who helped the world's oldest mother give birth will today 発表する he is about to start cloning babies for infertile couples.

Italian Professor Severino Antinori (人命などを)奪う,主張するs Britain's 決定/判定勝ち(する) to 許す 限られた/立憲的な 研究 into 治療力のある cloning will help the 事業/計画(する).

A cloned baby could be created within two years using techniques already practised on animals, he will tell a 会議/協議会 in Rome.

But the シナリオ has already 誘発するd 批評 from 科学の 当局 in this country.

Professor Antinori first attracted 論争 when he helped a 62-year-old woman have a baby eight years ago by implanting an egg in her womb.

"If you ask the women 'do you prefer normal sperm or do you prefer cloning?' 70% prefer 遺伝子 cloning," he told BBC 無線で通信する 4's Today programme.

独房s from the infertile father would be 注入するd into an egg, which is then implanted in the mother's uterus for the pregnancy.

The resulting child would have the same physical 特徴 as his father and infertile parents would not have to rely on sperm 寄贈者s.

The doctor also 賞賛するd the House of Lords 投票(する) in January that legalised the cloning of human embryos for 研究 目的s only.

"For me, Tony Blair's intelligent 決定/判定勝ち(する) - for that I 深い尊敬の念を抱く the good help for Tony Blair's 決定/判定勝ち(する)," he said.

Professor Antinori, who six years ago helped a British 59-year-old unmarried mother have twins, says he has 600 患者s who want the fertility 治療, most from the US.

He also (人命などを)奪う,主張するs he is 支援するd by an 身元不明の Mediterranean country for his 研究 programme, likely to start in October.

The chairman of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology 当局, Ruth Deech, 警告するd that the 手続き would be 違法な in Britain and should remain so.

"There are lines you should not cross. You have to consider humanity as a whole and say there 限界s beyond which we should not go for the sake of 未来 遺伝子 rations and for 尊敬(する)・点 for the 自治 and dignity of 現在の 世代s," she told the Today programme.

Life, the anti-abortion charity, 非難するd the doctor's 計画(する)s but said it was "必然的な" someone would try to clone babies.

国家の chairman Professor Jack Scarisbrick (訂正する) said: "Science must be 支配する to 倫理的な 支配(する)/統制するs and moral 支配(する)/統制するs. Cloning 伴う/関わるs creating an 完全に new 肉親,親類d of human 存在 - a human 存在 生成するd asexually.

"This is a momentous step to take and society should tremble before doing something so 過激な."

Prof Scarisbrick 追加するd: "It is very 利益/興味ing that Professor Antinori has thanked Tony Blair for making this possible.

"The 政府's 約束s that cloning would be for 研究 only and there would be no birth cloning are hollow.

"This is giving the green light for cloning, and if it doesn't happen in Britain it will happen どこかよそで."
