The ÆÈΩ¤·¤¿¡¦Ìµ½ê° Ä´ºº into baby deaths within University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS ÁÏΩ¡¿´ðÁà ¿®ÍÑ will show that the µ¬ÌÏ of the ¥¹¥¥ã¥ó¥À¥ë was much worse than °ÊÁ° ¶²¤ì¤ëd.

It had been thought that 16 babies and two mothers had died as a result of shambolic care over nearly ten years at a maternity ¶è within Furness General Hospital in Cumbria.

Tragic: Concerns were first raised in September 2008 when Joshua Titcombe, who was nine days old, died from an infection that should have been treated with antibiotics

But after ºÇ¹âĬ¤Î¾ìÌÌing ´Ø¿´s in around 50 »öÎã¡¿´µ¼Ôs, Áܺº´±¡¿Ä´ºº´±s are exp ected to ·ëÏÀ¤¹¤ë that neglect Í¿¤¨¤ë¡¿Êû¤²¤ëd to even more deaths.

Health ¸ø¼°¤Î¡¿Ìò¿Ís have tried to cover up their ¼ºÇÔ to ŬÀÚ¤Ë Ä´ºº¡¿Áܺº¤¹¤ë poor ´µ¼Ô care on the ÉôÂâ.

The ¼ºÇÔ to strike off any nurse, doctor or midwife working at the hospital has enraged µ¾À·¼Ôs¡Ç families.

His father James said it was ¡Æappalling¡Ç that nobody has been disciplined for the failings that led to the deaths and ½Ò¤Ù¤ëd the accountability ²áÄø as ¡Æridiculously slow¡Ç.

Mr Titcombe said: ¡ÆIt¡Çs been six years since Joshua died and we have should been finding out about [the care failings] at the time. It¡Çs a Ä´°õ¤¹¤ë of how ¤Î¶á¤¯¤Ëd and ±£¤·¤À¤Æ¤¹¤ë the NHS was.

¡ÆWe were ľÌ̤¹¤ëd with ¾ã³² after ¾ã³² which is an µ¯ÁÊ¡¤¹ðȯ of how the NHS was run at the time.

¡ÆWhat happened to Êݸ¤ëing mothers and babies? The timescale is a ÉÔ̾ÍÀ.¡Ç

He said there was no ¿äÏÀ¤¹¤ë¡¿Íýͳ why culpable nurse and doctors could not have been held to account before the Êó¹ð¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë¡¿²±Â¬ was published.

A number of midwives from the hospital are ͽÄê to ľÌ̤¹¤ë the Nursing and Midwifery ²ñµÄ (NMC) later this year in relation to deaths at the hospital.

Mr Titcombe Äɲ乤ëd: ¡ÆFor Joshua to have died in 2008 and the NMC¡Çs ²áÄøs to still be ¸½ºß¿Ê¹ÔÃæ¤Î is ÀäÂÐ appalling. How can that be Êݸ¤ëing mothers and babies?

The ÆÈΩ¤·¤¿¡¦Ìµ½ê° Ä´ºº into the ¿®ÍÑ, ¿äÄꤹ¤ë¡¿Í½ÁÛ¤¹¤ëd to be published next month, was finally ordered by Âç¿Ãs ͽÄê to ³«»Ï¤¹¤ëing ´Ø¿´s over the deaths of at least eight mothers and babies.

Mr Titcombe added: ¡

While ¸ø¼°¤Î¡¿Ìò¿Ís continued to cover up the extent of the hospital¡Çs problems, a police Ä´ºº was ·ë¶É ³«»Ï¤¹¤ë¡¤ÂǤÁ¾å¤²¤ëd after repeated ¡Ê̱»ö¤Î¡Ë¹ðÁÊs from µ¾À·¼Ôs¡Ç families.

An ÆâÉô¤Î review published in March 2010 ºÇ¹âĬ¤Î¾ìÌÌd ´Ø¿´s about the maternity ÉôÂâ ´Þ¤àing the relations between staff.

The CQC, however, failed to read the Êó¹ð¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë¡¿²±Â¬ and passed the hospital as ¡Æ°ÂÁ´¤Ê¡Ç a year later.

When a CQC ¸ø¼°¤Î¡¿Ìò¿Í produced a dossier showing the ºº»¡ was ·ç´Ùd, bosses told him to destroy it to Êݸ¤ë the commissi on¡Çs ɾȽ.

The extent to which officals have tried to deflect attention from the failing hospital has been branded ¡Ærotten¡Ç by Âç¿Ãs and ¤ËÎ㤨¤ëd to the Ãæ±û¤Î-Staffordshire ¿®ÍÑ cover-up.

The CQC and the µÄ²ñ¤Î and health service ombudsman are also thought to be in line for Èãɾ in Dr Ë¡°Æ Kirkup¡Çs Êó¹ð¡Ê¤¹¤ë¡Ë¡¿²±Â¬.

It will raise more questions about how °åÎŤΠstaff and those »Å»öd with ¸¡ºº¡¿»ë»¡¤¹¤ëing the ¼Á of care ¶¡µë¤¹¤ëd are held to account.
