Mandela awarded 最高の，を越す honour

Nelson Mandela today collected his 最新の honour when he was 投資するd by the Duke of Gloucester as a （強制）執行官 Grand Cross of the Order of St John.

The 86-year-old former 大統領 of South Africa received his insignia - an eight-pointed cross - at a 儀式 at St James's Palace, London.

The Order of St John, 長，率いるd by the Queen, is an historic Christian charity connected with the St John 救急車. The Duke of Gloucester is the Order's Grand 事前の.

Mr Mandela's honour is the highest the Order can bestow.

The Order's 長官 general, Andrew Gough, said: "It is with enormous 楽しみ that we bestow this honour upon Mr Mandela in 承認 of his 献身的な services to the work of the Order in South Africa and beyond."

Craig Troeburg, from the Order's South African organisation, 追加するd: "Nelson Mandela has 演習d with distinction both the leadership of the 共和国 of South Africa and his その後の position as a 支持する／優勝者 of peace.

Mr Mandela is a member of the Order in the Priory of South Africa and, in 2003, was 促進するd by the Queen to the highest grade within the Order.

He was first 任命するd to the Order as a Knight in 1996.

Around the world, there are five Orders of St John which run 非常に／多数の programmes, 範囲ing from 救急車 軍団 to 計画／陰謀s for young people, care for the 年輩の, the 無能にするd, children and the homeless.

They also 供給する first-援助（する） training, and 災害 and 人道的な 救済 世界的な.

The British Order of St John is an Order of Chivalry of the 栄冠を与える.
