From Barbados 支援する to reality

The delights of Barbados, where the 総理大臣 has spent the past three weeks enjoying a millionaire's lifestyle, must seem a world away as he 準備するs to plough through his in-tray on his return from holiday.

How goes the war on terror? 井戸/弁護士席, the 政府's much vaunted '厳重取締' has not led to the 追放 of a 選び出す/独身 'preacher of hate'. So much for Mr Blair's eve-of-holiday 警告

that 'the 支配するs of the game are changing'.

What about Iraq? Violent anarchy 支配するs the country and the new 憲法 - even if it receives the 是認 needed to 批准する it in the 国民投票 - looks 確かな to 点火(する) civil war when the 占領するing 軍隊s pull out. So much for the 連合's 誓約(する) to create a beacon of 僕主主義 in the 地域.

And on 国内の 事柄s?

As we have seen again these past two weeks, GCSEs and A-levels have become a (bad) 国家の joke, while almost a half of all boys leave 最初の/主要な school unable to 令状 適切に. So much for education, education, education.

And にもかかわらず billions of 続けざまに猛撃するs in extra NHS 投資, hospitals 直面する a 負債 危機, millions have no 接近 to a dentist, and almost half of 患者s struggle to get an 任命 with their GP. So much for Mr Blair's 約束 to 配達する a health service that will be the envy of Europe.

With all these problems 直面するing him on his return, what does the 総理大臣 do? Why, he cranks up the 負かす/撃墜するing Street spin machine.

We hear as we always do at this time of year - you can almost 始める,決める your watch by it - that he's ready to 選ぶ a fight with the (ドイツなどの)首相/(大学の)学長 because he's '妨害するing' the Blair 改革(する)ing zeal.

At the same time it's whispered that Charles Clarke is not up to the 職業 - though why we should need the services of a Number 10 spin doctor for that blindingly obvious 査定/評価 is anyone's guess.

If this is the best Mr Blair can come up with when 直面するd by his party's serial 無(不)能 to 配達する on its 約束s and its 遺産/遺物 of dashed 期待s, perhaps he should have stayed on the beach.

It 簡単に 増強するs the impression that this third-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 労働 政府 is bereft of 見通し and has no sense of 勢い.

The 推論する/理由 is obvious. Mr Blair is working out his notice and 焦点(を合わせる)ing on what obsesses all 総理大臣s in their twilight days - their place in history. All around him his more ambitious 大臣s are just を待つing the succession.

As a result, the sense of 当局 ebbing away from the 総理大臣 becomes almost palpable.

He should beware. If the drift continues, the 圧力 for Mr Blair to go sooner rather than later could become unstoppable.

Let the pubs 支払う/賃金

Talk about 追加するing 侮辱 to 傷害.

As this paper has 明らかにする/漏らすd, householders fighting to 妨げる pubs 延長するing their 開始 hours under the 政府's foolhardy 計画(する)s for 24-hour drinking already have the 半端物s stacked against them.

Now it 現れるs they may 直面する bigger 会議 税金 法案s because 地元の 当局 are having to 雇う extra staff to 過程 the late 急ぐ of 使用/適用s.

The 会議s 警告する it could 追加する £60million to their costs over the next two years.

They say (やめる rightly) it's 不公平な to land 会議 taxpayers with this 課税. They want central 政府 to 支払う/賃金 - but that would still leave the taxpayer 選ぶing up the 法案.

Isn't there a simple 解答? There's only one group of people who are going to 利益(をあげる) from this misbegotten 法律制定 - and that's pub owners. They should 支払う/賃金.
