More than 2,000 職業s axed as Peugeot 工場/植物 の近くにs

French car 巨大(な) Peugeot-Citroen is to end 生産/産物 at one of its main UK factories with the loss of 2,300 職業s, it was 発表するd today.

The factory at Ryton in Coventry will stop making the Peugeot 206 model next year.

The 決定/判定勝ち(する) was given to union 公式の/役人s who had been 召喚するd to a 会合 with company bosses.

Union sources said they had been 恐れるing bad news but 表明するd shock at the 規模 of the 告示.

Thousands of other 職業s depend on the Ryton factory and the 決定/判定勝ち(する) is yet another blow to the car 産業 in the West Midlands に引き続いて last year's 崩壊(する) of MG Rover.

The Ryton factory was built in 1939 and 製造(する)d aero engines in support of the war 成果/努力.

The 場所/位置 was 変えるd to a car factory in 1946 when the Rootes Group, 構成するing Hillman, Humber, Sunbeam and Talbot, started producing the Sunbeam-Talbot.

In 1948 the Humber Pullman, Humber Snipe and Humber 最高の Snipe were transferred from Stoke to Ryton, while in the same year Hillman and Sunbeam-Talbot models were all 開始する,打ち上げるd.

Between 1952 and 1962 生産/産物 at Ryton was 支配するd by the Hillman Pullman, 強硬派, Husky and 最高の series, along with the Hillman Minx.

By 1961 Rootes was in 財政上の trouble, with losses of £2 million. In 1964 Chrysler Europe was formed by the 購入(する) of the English Rootes Group.

Over the next five years Ryton lost the Hillman 最高の Minx for the new-世代 Hillman Hunter, while the last incarnations of the Humber 強硬派 and 最高の Snipe Series (機の)カム and went, as did the Sunbeam Alpine V.

The Hillman Minx and Humber Sceptre were both 取って代わるd by new Arrow 見解/翻訳/版s. The last Singers, the Vogue and Gazelle, lasted until 1970 when they were 取って代わるd by the Sunbeam Rapier and Vogue.

In 1967, Ryton became part of the Chrysler Europe 操作/手術 and Chrysler took 財政上の 支配(する)/統制する.

1969 saw the 開始する,打ち上げる of the Avenger, the first car to be built in the 団体/死体 in White at Ryton. The same year saw the 150,000th Hunter family car built at Ryton but almost すぐに afterwards, Hunter 生産/産物 moved to Linwood in Scotland, along with the Humber Sceptre and Hillman Minx.

In 1970, having 地位,任命するd a loss of some £10 million, Rootes モーターs 中止するd to 存在する, becoming Chrysler UK. Ryton got a new bodyshop and paintshop.

The 100,000th Hillman Avenger was built in 1971, but 生産/産物 of the Avenger was switched to Scotland in 1977 and the Hillman 指名する was killed off.

In 1978 Hunter 生産/産物 中止するd and Chrysler sold out 完全に to Peugeot of フラン, with Ryton changing its 指名する to Talbot モーター Company.

The Hunter 道具ing 商売/仕事 was sold to Iran and the car was 改名するd the Pekan. In 1980 the first Talbot Horizons were built in the UK, while five years later the first British-built Peugeot was produced at Ryton.

For the 残り/休憩(する) of the 1980s Ryton built the 309 and 405 models, later 中止するing in favour of the 306 in 1993.

生産/産物 of the 306 ended at Ryton in 1999 and the 工場/植物's 未来 残り/休憩(する)d with the 206.

Derek Simpson, general 長官 of Amicus, said: "This is 悲惨な news for British 製造業の. It is 信じられない that 労働者s in フラン would be laid off on this 規模.

"Weak UK 労働 法律s are 許すing British 労働者s to be sacrificed at the expense of a 柔軟な 労働 market."

The union said there would be an "enormous" 衝撃 on the 地元の economy, 見積(る)ing that every 職業 at Ryton 支えるd another three in service 会社/堅いs.
