In a scathing open letter, the schools 監視者 said it had ‘深くするing 関心s’ over the poor 業績/成果 of 最初の/主要なs and 第2位s in the 地域.

It is understood the 親族 wealth of the area may be propping up exam results, but schools appear to have become complacent and are failing to stretch pupils.

In contrast, Swindon has a low 失業率, a low 割合 of 居住(者)s on 利益s and the 普通の/平均(する) 労働者 receives a higher 行う than 普通の/平均(する).

Alan Smithers, professor of education at the University of Buckingham said: ‘Swindon’s results are not as good as might have been 推定する/予想するd given its 親族 affluence.

‘It looks as though the schools, both 最初の/主要な and 学院, have become 満足させるd with いっそう少なく than the pupils are 有能な of 達成するing.

‘Ofsted’s letter is an 試みる/企てる to shock them out of their complacency.’

The letter, 演説(する)/住所d to 会議 長,指導者s, 学院 bosses, 長,率いる teachers and MPs, called for 即座の 活動/戦闘 to 速く 改善する education 基準s in the area.

Swindon 会議 and school leaders said they were surprised to receive the letter, 追加するing it had ‘怒り/怒るd and annoyed’ many 長,率いる teachers.

In his letter, Ofsted 地域の director Bradley Simmons said he had raised 関心s about the 業績/成果 of Swindon’s schools with the 地元の 会議 on at least three occasions.

He said: ‘I am, therefore, 広げるing the audience of this letter so that no 重要な player in Swindon’s schools can be in any 疑問 of the 真面目さ of the 状況/情勢.

‘In short, in 2016, Swindon’s children were failed by its schools at every 重要な 行う/開催する/段階.’

最初の/主要な school 業績/成果, which had been showing a 傾向 of 改良, is now a 関心, the letter said.

This year, the town had some of the poorest phonics results in England, with 76 per cent of six-year-olds reaching the 推定する/予想するd 基準 .

This puts Swindon in the 底(に届く) 10 地元の 当局 国家的に.

査察s of five 第2位s 示す ‘a 傾向 of 拒絶する/低下する’, Mr Simmons said, and the 全体にわたる 割合 of youngsters …に出席するing a good 第2位 school has dropped from 52 per cent in August last year to 47 per cent as of the end of September.

In an open letter in 返答, Swindon 会議 leaders and 長,率いる teachers said that Ofsted ratings showed that 92 per cent of 最初の/主要な schools are 率d as good or better, and that the 会議 is 越えるing its 的 for a 誓約(する) 発表するd last year to 増加する the 割合 of 第2位s classed as good or 優れた.

They 追加するd: ‘We feel the data that has been 解放(する)d has been used selectively and to say that schools have ‘failed’ their pupils is 極端に 厳しい and indeed 不公平な.

‘By making his 見解(をとる)s so public in this way, Mr Simmons must have recognised the demotivating 衝撃 they would have on teachers.

‘In fact it has really 怒り/怒るd and annoyed many headteachers of good and 優れた schools who are doing an excellent 職業 供給するing high class education for children and young people whether they are in 会議 持続するd schools or 学院s.’

Ofsted has 以前 criticised 奪うd towns in the North such as Knowsley, where school leaders say their pupils are 存在 held 支援する by poverty rather than poor teaching.

Swindon has no such excuse, with only 4 per cent of its 全住民 失業した compared with the 国家の 普通の/平均(する) of 5.1 per cent, によれば the 最新の 公式の/役人 統計(学).

Only 1.3 per cent of its 全住民 on 利益s, compared with 1.8 per cent 国家的に, while 普通の/平均(する) 収入s per week are £551.60, compared with £541.0 国家的に.
