Hundreds of people today 戦う/戦いd flash floods after drainage systems in two 沿岸の towns were "圧倒するd" by 豪雨, a water company said.

More than 90 所有物/資産/財産s, 含むing schools and 商売/仕事s, in 広大な/多数の/重要な Yarmouth, Norfolk and Lowestoft, Suffolk were 影響する/感情d, Anglian Water said.

Floods were said to be several feet 深い in places in 広大な/多数の/重要な Yarmouth, which was the worst 攻撃する,衝突する area, and police said a number of roads were 封鎖するd.

Water company 公式の/役人s said the problems had been 悪化させるd by a blockage in a pump at a drainage 駅/配置する.

"The system is designed to 対処する with a 確かな 量 of rain but it has been so 激しい in the 早期に hours that the 網状組織 has been 圧倒するd," said an Anglian Water spokeswoman.

"Ten 所有物/資産/財産s in Lowestoft have been 影響する/感情d by 内部の flooding and 50 by 外部の flooding.

"Six 所有物/資産/財産s in 広大な/多数の/重要な Yarmouth have been 影響する/感情d by 内部の flooding and 25 by 外部の flooding.

"I don't know how much rain has fallen but it's been a 抱擁する 量. We had a blockage in a pump at a drainage 駅/配置する - which was (疑いを)晴らすd - but even if that hadn't happened there would have been problems."

Police said flooding in the centre of 広大な/多数の/重要な Yarmouth was "広範囲にわたる" and advised drivers to 避ける the town.

Norfolk 郡 会議 said a number of schools in the 広大な/多数の/重要な Yarmouth area had been の近くにd.

And a 広報担当者 said Norfolk 解雇する/砲火/射撃 Service had received between 200 and 300 calls in four-and-a-half hours from people having flooding problems.

"There have just been 抱擁する 量s of rain this morning," said the spokeswoman.

"An 緊急 計画(する) has been put into 操作/手術, which 伴う/関わるs the 地元の 当局 and 緊急 services, and we are thinking about 避難所s.

"The 解雇する/砲火/射撃 service has been 圧倒するd with 999 calls - although it's just starting to 緩和する off now. We've had between 200 and 300 calls over a four-and-a-half hour period. Four or five a minute.

"We had to ask people not to call if their gardens are flooded. And this hasn't been 原因(となる)d by the sea or by a river. Just by the rain."

広大な/多数の/重要な Yarmouth Borough 会議 said the deluge at been at its worst at around 10am.

A 広報担当者 for the 環境 機関 said the 天候 system which 原因(となる)d the deluge began moving inland and breaking up in the afternoon.

He said 27mm (1.06 インチs) of rain had fallen on the 広大な/多数の/重要な Yarmouth area from around 3pm on Sunday.

"It's 現実に 公正に/かなり typical. We've had a hot (一定の)期間 last week and this 肉親,親類d of 豪雨 can follow. It often happens during the summer," he said.

"It's flash-flooding 原因(となる)d by 長引かせるd 豪雨. The weathermen can 予報する 降雨 but it's very hard to 予報する where this 肉親,親類d of flooding can occur. Unlike when rivers rise - when we can give some 警告.

"The 原因(となる) of this flooding is 類似の to the 原因(となる) of the Boscastle flood in 2004. 長引かせるd 強い雨. There it was 明白に much worse because there was a valley and the rain 原因(となる)d a river to flood.

"Of course, it is terrible for people whose homes are flooded. But the water should now drain away and there should be no repeat. We are watching rivers in the area but there is no suggestion that any will burst their banks in coming days."
