Three years ago, Stockwell Park School had some of the worst exam results in London, with only one in 10 of its pupils managing to get five

good GCSE passes.

Today, it is celebrating a remarkable turnaround.

This week’s GCSE league （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs showed the 割合 of Stockwell Park students 達成するing five passes at grade A* to C ― 含むing English and maths ― had almost quadrupled, making it one of the 資本／首都’s most 改善するd schools.

Under headteacher Judith Tapper, who joined in 2000, the Lambeth school has 可決する・採択するd many of the

features ありふれた in 私的な and grammar-schools, such as a house system and a strict uniform 政策.

It is setting children by ability, にもかかわらず 恐れるs it might stigmatise children in the lower streams.

“We are not 特に 政治上 訂正する,” said 副 長，率いる マイク 急ぐ. “We don’t care about what other people think, we do what 作品.”

The school 実験（する）s children every six weeks in every 支配する, so teachers know 正確に／まさに how much 進歩 pupils are making.

This approach has now been taken up by Education 長官 Alan Johnson, who told all schools this week to 可決する・採択する 正規の／正選手 実験（する）ing.

Although Stockwell Park is co-教育の, many lessons are taught to 選び出す／独身 sex groups as

teachers find that 上げるs 業績／成就 ― 特に with boys.

High-fliers can take their maths and English GCSEs 早期に and over the next couple of years this programme will be 延長するd to all 支配するs.

Another school which saw its results 改善する 劇的な was Stoke Newington in Hackney. The

number of pupils there getting five A* t o C grades, 含むing English and maths, has risen by 16 per cent in three years to 49 per cent.

The school is in the 最高の，を越す 100 国家的に for “追加するing value” ― helping 上げる pupils’ 進歩 between the ages of 11 and 16. Headteacher 示す Emmerson said: “We 予報する next

year’s Year 11 will do even better.”

Other success stories 含む Lampton School in Hounslow, where a large number of pupils are

難民s. Using setting for maths and science, it has seen its 百分率 of A* to C grades 含むing English and maths 改善する by nine

to 55 in a year.

More than half of all GCSE pupils failed to 達成する at least five Cs in 支配するs 含むing English and maths. In 63 of London’s 408 明言する／公表する

第２位s, only 25 per cent of pupils reached this 基準.
