The 鉄道s have become so expensive that it is cheaper to 飛行機で行く between the nation's major cities, 研究 示唆するs.

Over seven weeks in November and December, Holiday Which? magazine compared the prices of 計画(する), train and coach tickets on three long-distance 旅行s.

On all three, going by train was the most expensive - with the cheapest rail tickets advertised unavailable when requested by travellers.

For example, the cheapest 利用できる return rail fare between London and Glasgow was £72 compared to the £37.67 possible with Ryanair. The 普通の/平均(する) flight time was 1 hour and 22 minutes with a cost of 5p a mile, while the rail 旅行 of 5 hours and 20 minutes was 9p a mile.

Which? failed to 含む 空気/公表する 乗客 義務, the 政府 flight 税金 which would 追加する an extra £20 to a return 空気/公表する fare between two UK cities.

But even if this was 追加するd to the equation, both the cost and 速度(を上げる) of the 旅行 示唆する 飛行機で行くing is a better 取引,協定.

The 熟考する/考慮する challenges 政府 advice to travellers to use rail rather than 計画(する)s to 減ずる 炭素 放出/発行s. 大臣s have attacked 予算 航空機によるs for encouraging 空気/公表する travel with their cheap fares.

However, they have 許すd train fares to rise to the point where travellers are 活発に 存在 encouraged to "et the 計画(する) take the 緊張する"

Holiday Which? 設立する the cheapest return train fare between Birmingham and London worked out at £8.70. This is more than 二塁打 the cheapest flight 取引,協定 of £34.95 with bmibaby.

The flight time was just 1 hour 10 minutes at a cost of just 6p per mile, compared to 5 hours and 15 minutes on the train at 15p per mile.

The same pattern was seen on the 238-mile trip between Manchester and Exeter. The cheapest return rail fare 利用できる was £7.30, some 46 per cent more expensive than flights with the flybe 航空機による.

Taking the train took 4 hours and 19 mi nutes and worked out at 18p per mile, while the flight was 1 hour and 5 minutes and cost 13p a mile.

Which? 設立する that 鉄道s do advertise cheaper 取引,協定s on some of the 大勝するs it 調査するd, but its 研究員s 設立する these were often unavailable.

A 広報担当者 said: "n the whole, travelling by train was the most expensive way to get around. The cheapest rail tickets advertised were frustratingly unavailable, even seven weeks in 前進する.

"n 新規加入, the 範囲 of tickets advertised was コンビナート/複合体 and 混乱させるing."In some 事例/患者s it can be cheaper to 調書をとる/予約する two 選び出す/独身 旅行s rather than a return, so Which? advises carefully checking all 選択s before buying tickets.

The 調査する 設立する that in two out of the three examples, the coach (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域 trains and 計画(する)s in

条件 of cost.

However, the saving was 極小の and the 旅行 times were much longer.

A 403-mile coach trip from London to Glasgow had a cheapest fare of £2.50, compared to £37.67 for a flight and £72 for a train. However, the trip would take 8-11 hours.

The Which? 広報担当者 said: "Travelling by 空気/公表する is 明白に the quickest way to get about - even 含むing check-in times - and 極端に 競争の激しい fares are 広範囲にわたって 利用できる.

"However, you'll need to factor in any extra costs and times of travel to the airport 同様に as considering the 環境の 衝撃 of choosing 空気/公表する travel for 比較して short 旅行s."
