Our fight to save couple swept away by the 嵐/襲撃する

A TV 乗組員 have told how they 猛烈に 戦う/戦いd to save a couple carried out to sea by a 巨大(な) wave.

The pair were walking along a pier in 嵐の 条件s when they were suddenly dragged into the water. A BBC team filming nearby tried to help them, but the 現在の was too strong.

The 悲劇 happened at Mullion Cove, off the Lizard 半島 in Cornwall, as terrible 天候 乱打するd the shoreline on Sunday afternoon.

Julian Sturdy, 示す Killingack and Dr David Viner were part of a five-man 乗組員 making a 文書の about 気候 change.

Mr Sturdy said: "The waves were 衝突,墜落ing over me. I managed to throw a lifebelt to the man. He got into it and I held on to the piece of rope.

"I managed to pull him に向かって the harbour 塀で囲む and I held on to him for a couple of minutes in the hope he might be able to 緊急発進する on to the 激しく揺する. But the rope snapped and he drifted 支援する out to sea."

Dr Viner, a scientist, fought to help the woman. He said: "I tried to get a line to her but I couldn't.

"The 勝利,勝つd was very strong and she was in a bad way. She just went under and I realised she was no longer with us."

The alarm was raised and an RNLI lifeboat was sent to the 救助(する) but high 勝利,勝つd and 40ft waves meant the pair could only be reached by a ヘリコプター.

They were taken to the 王室の Cornwall Hospital at Treliske, Truro, where they were pronounced-dead on arrival. The couple, thought to be from the West Midlands, had arrived in Cornwall the previous day and were staying in The Old Cellar holiday apartments overlooking Mullion Harbour.

Neither has been 指名するd. Julie Pryor, a housekeeper at the holiday flats, said: "They were both in their forties and 登録(する)d with us as living at different 演説(する)/住所s so I suppose they aren't married."
