The rise in the 最小限 行う should be slowed ーするために 妨げる it becoming a 脅し to 雇用, an 専門家 who 以前 advised the 政府 on its level has 警告するd.

The 最小限 行う has risen at a faster 率 than 普通の/平均(する) 収入s in 最近の years to reach £5.35 for over-22s, and 大臣s will soon 発表する this year's 増加する, to 施行される in October.

Unions are ロビーing for a £7-an-hour 最小限, but the associate director of the Work 創立/基礎, David Coates, today 警告するd that this would "certainly" be above the level which would 害(を与える) 雇用.

He called for a period of consolidation in which the 最小限 行う would rise at no more than the 率 of 増加する of 普通の/平均(する) 給料 - taking its level to £5.60 this year.

Mr Coates, a former member of the Low 支払う/賃金 (売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限 which advises the 政府 on the level of the 最小限 行う, told the BBC 無線で通信する 4 Today programme: "Since 2004, the 最小限 行う has been rising much faster than 普通の/平均(する) 収入s.

"The Low 支払う/賃金 (売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限 was 実験(する)ing the level - the やめる low level, 最初 - and they thought it could be more ambitious.

"I think the time has now come for some consolidation, 持続するing the real value of the 最小限 行う and seeing how that is bedding 負かす/撃墜する and then making a その上の judgment on whether a rise is possible in 2008/09."

Mr Coates 拒絶するd the argument of many 雇用者s that the 最小限 行う should rise only in line with インフレーション, 説: "I think it should rise in line with 普通の/平均(する) 収入s, so that low-paid 労働者s 株 in the rise in 国家の 繁栄."

But he also 拒絶するd unions' argument for a いわゆる "living 行う" of £7 an hour, which he said would be the highest 最小限 行う in the developed world.

"There is no 疑問 that once you go above a 確かな point, there will be some 逆の 衝撃 on 雇用," he said. "I think £7 is certainly above that level."
