解放する/自由なd sailors - the 声明 in 十分な
Last updated at 16:07 06 April 2007
This is the 十分な 声明 of the 解放する/自由なd sailors, read out by their two most 上級の members, 中尉/大尉/警部補 Felix Carman, 26, and 王室の 海洋 Captain Chris 空気/公表する, 25:
"Yesterday we were 再会させるd with our families after a 14 day ordeal that 非,不,無 of us will forget.
"On arrival at London Heathrow we were given the news that four UK servicemen and a 非軍事の interpreter had been killed in Iraq. We would like to pass on our thoughts and 弔慰s to the families of those who died serving their country.
"We would also like, as a group, to thank the staff of the British 大使館 in Tehran and the Foreign Office and 省 of Defence for all their work in 安全な・保証するing our 解放(する). We understand a 広大な/多数の/重要な 取引,協定 of 成果/努力 has been going on behind the scenes to enable us to be returned to the UK and for that we are very 感謝する.

"We would also like to thank British 航空路s and London Heathrow for making our return so comfortable, quick and 平易な.
"Lastly I would like to thank the very many members of the 王室の 海軍 and 王室の 海洋s who have been working so hard over the last 2 weeks supporting our families and friends and for arranging our return to here."
Lt Carman went on: "On Friday 23 March I along with 14 of my 同僚s were part of a 決まりきった仕事 搭乗 patrol. We (軍隊を)展開する,配備するd from HMS Cornwall in two Rigid Inflatable Boats and patrolled into an area south of the Shatt Al Arab 水路. This was meant to be a 決まりきった仕事 搭乗 操作/手術 and followed だいたい 66 類似の such 搭乗s over the previous four weeks.
"We approached an 身元不明の merchant 大型船 that our supporting ヘリコプター had identified as 価値(がある) 調査. We carried out a 完全に compliant 搭乗 with the 十分な 協調 of the Master and 乗組員. The RM 安全な・保証するd the 大型船 and t he RN element of the 搭乗 party then arrived and 開始するd a 徹底的な search of the ship. This was in 完全にする 一致 with our UN 委任統治(領) and as part of an International 連合.
"We were equipped with Xeres true navigational 器具/備品 and 手渡す held GPS for backup. The ヘリコプター in support 供給するd continuous navigational 確定/確認 and we were also linked to HMS Cornwall who were 監視するing our exact position at all times. Let me make it 絶対 (疑いを)晴らす, irrespective of what has been said in the past, when we were 拘留するd by the IRG we were inside 国祭的な recognised Iraqi 領土の waters and I can 明確に 明言する/公表する we were 1.7 航海の miles from Iranian waters."

Capt 空気/公表する continued: "It was during the 搭乗 that we noticed the ヘリコプター had returned to 'Mother', and we started calling the ship on VHF to find out why. A short while later two 速度(を上げる) boats were spotted approaching 速く about 400 metres away.
"I ordered everyone to make their 武器s ready and ordered the 搭乗 party to return to the boats. By the time all were 支援する on board, two Iranian boats had come と一緒に. One officer spoke good English and I explained that we were 行為/行うing a 決まりきった仕事 操作/手術, as 許すd under a UN 委任統治(領).
"But when we tried to leave, they 妨げるd us by 封鎖するing us in. By now it was becoming ますます (疑いを)晴らす that they had arrived with a planned 意図.
"Some of the Iranian sailors were becoming deliberately 積極的な and 安定性のない. They rammed our boat and trained their 激しい machine guns, RPGs and 武器s on us.
"Another six boats were の近くにing in on us. We realised that our 成果/努力s to 推論する/理由 with these people were not making any 前進. Nor were we able to 静める some of the individuals 負かす/撃墜する.
"It was at this point that we realised that had we resisted there would ha ve been a major fight, one we could not have won with consequences that would have had major 戦略の 衝撃. We made a conscious 決定/判定勝ち(する) to not engage the Iranians and do as they asked. They boarded our boats, 除去するd our 武器s and steered the boats に向かって the Iranian shore."
Lt Carman said: "On arrival at a small 海軍の base, we were blindfolded, stripped of all our 道具 and led to a room where I 宣言するd myself as the officer in 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 and was introduced to a 地元の 指揮官.
"Two hours later we were moved to a second 場所 and throughout the night were 支配するd to 無作為の 尋問s. The questions were 積極的な and the 扱うing rough, but it was no worse than that.
"The に引き続いて morning we were flown to Tehran and 輸送(する)d to a 刑務所,拘置所 where the atmosphere changed 完全に. We were blindfolded, our 手渡すs were bound and we were 軍隊d up against a 塀で囲む. Throughout our ordeal we 直面するd constant psychological 圧力.
"Later we were stripped and then dressed in pyjamas. The next few nights were spent in 石/投石する 独房s, だいたい 8ft by 6ft, sleeping on piles of 一面に覆う/毛布s. All of us were kept in 孤立/分離.
"We were interrogated most nights, and 現在のd with two 選択s. If we 認める we had 逸脱するd, we would be on a 計画(する) 支援する to the UK soon. If we didn't we 直面するd up to seven years in 刑務所,拘置所. We all at one time or another made a conscious 決定/判定勝ち(する) to make a controlled 解放(する) of 非,不,無-操作の (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状).
"We were kept in 孤立/分離 until the last few nights when we were 許すd to gather for a few hours together, in the 十分な glare of Iranian マスコミ.
"On day 12 we were taken to a 政治の コンビナート/複合体, blindfolded and then given three piece 控訴s to wear. We watched the 大統領's 声明 live on TV, and it was only then that we realised we were to be sent home.
"It goes without 説 that there was a 抱擁する moment of elation. We were made to line up to 会合,会う the 大統領,/社長, one at a time. My advice to everyone was not to mess this up now - we al l 手配中の,お尋ね者 to get home.
"Afterwards - and still blindfolded - we were taken 支援する to the hotel and for the first time met with UK 代表者/国会議員s 含むing the 外交官/大使 before 搭乗 our flight 支援する to Heathrow."
Capt 空気/公表する 追加するd: "In the short time we have been 支援する we have not been able to see all that has been broadcast or written about our ordeal. We are aware that many people have questioned why we 許すd ourselves to be taken in the first place and why we 許すd ourselves to be shown by the Iranian 当局 on television.
"Let me be 絶対 (疑いを)晴らす, from the 手始め it was very 明らかな that fighting 支援する was 簡単に not an 選択. Had we chosen to do so then many of us would not be standing here today. Of that I have no 疑問s.
"The Iranian 海軍 did not turn up lightly 武装した; they (機の)カム with 意図, 激しい 武器s, and very quickly surrounded us. We were equipped, 武装した and had 支配するs of 約束/交戦 for 搭乗 操作/手術s within Iraqi water.
"We were not 用意が出来ている to fight a ひどく 武装した 軍隊 who it is our impression (機の)カム out deliberately into Iraqi waters to take us 囚人. 推論する/理由ing with the Iranians was our only 選択. We tried. We did our 最大の to de-増大する the 状況/情勢, but our words fell on deaf ears. They had come with a (疑いを)晴らす 目的 and were never going to leave without us.
"The Iranians are not our enemies. We are not at war with them. Our 支配するs of 約束/交戦 at that time 明言する/公表するd that we could only use lethal 軍隊 if we felt that we were in 切迫した danger of a loss of life. By the time the true 意図 of the Iranians had become 明らかな - and we could have legitimately fought 支援する - it was too late for 活動/戦闘.
"We were 完全に surrounded, and in 新規加入 to the loss of life, any 試みる/企てるd to fight 支援する would 原因(となる)d a major international 出来事/事件 and an escalation of 緊張 within the 地域. Our team had seconds to make a 決定/判定勝ち(する) and we believe that we made the 権利 決定/判定勝ち(する). We still believe this was the 権利 thing to do."
Lt Carma n went on: "Some have questioned why HMS Cornwall did not 供給する greater 保護 for the team. HMS Cornwall is there to guard the 決定的な oil 壇・綱領・公約s and 命令(する) the 連合 軍隊s. She is also the 壇・綱領・公約 by where 搭乗 teams can 開始する,打ち上げる from and patrol out.
Not only should she not have been closer to us but she 肉体的に could not have been, the water is 簡単に too shallow. We are all immensely proud to be members of her 乗組員 and look 今後 to 再結合させるing her.
"I would just like to 強調する/ストレス three points at this 行う/開催する/段階:
- "When taken by the Islamic 革命の Guard we were 井戸/弁護士席 inside Iraqi 領土の waters.
"We remain Immensely proud of our team. Their courage and dignity throughout their 違法な 拘留,拘置 was in line with the best tradition of the service.
"Throughout our ordeal we have tried to remain very much a team. No one individual should be 選び出す/独身d out but we are now very aware of the special 治療 選び出す/独身d out to 妖精/密着させる Turney. 妖精/密着させる is a young mother and wife. She volunteered to join the 王室の 海軍 and is very proud to continue to serve. She is a 高度に professional 操作者 and we are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team.
"The fact she is a women has been used as a 宣伝 道具 by Iran. This is 深く,強烈に 残念な. She is coming to 条件 with what has happened to her and not only 妖精/密着させる and her family but all of us are finding the 圧力(をかける) 焦点(を合わせる) very uncomfortable and difficult and 特に request that you give all of us the space and privacy we need when we return to our homes."
