'化学製品 Ali' to hang after 集団殺戮有罪の判決

Saddam Hussein' s enforcer "化学製品 Ali" has been 宣告，判決d to hang for 操るing 集団殺戮 against Iraq's Kurds in the 1980s.

Ali Hassan al- Majeed, Saddam's cousin, trembled as the 裁判官 read the 判決. When he left the courtroom he said: "Thanks be to God."

Today there were 恐れるs that the 決定／判定勝ち（する） by the Baghdad 法廷，裁判所 would 誘発する／引き起こす an 沸き立つ in sectarian 暴力／激しさ.

There were also international 需要・要求するs that the 死刑執行 should be a more dignified 事件／事情／状勢 than Saddam's last December. Majeed was 見解（をとる）d as the 独裁者's enforcer, a man with a 評判 for brutality who was used to 鎮圧する dissent.

He played a 主要な役割 in stamping out a Shi'ite 反乱 in the south after the 1991 湾 War.

But he earned his 評判 and his 愛称 in 1988 when he directed a 軍の（選挙などの）運動をする against the Kurds in the north of Iraq in which 化学製品武器s were used, villages 破壊するd and 爆弾d and 農業の lands destroyed.

Thousands more Kurds were left homeless and many were also 犠牲者s of 拷問.

In the northern Kurdish city of Halabja, where an 概算の 5,000 died in a 化学製品 attack in 1988, 地元のs gathered yesterday in a small 決起大会／結集させる at the 共同墓地.

"We thank God that we have lived to see our enemies 存在 punished for all of the 残虐（行為）s against our people," said Lukman Abdul-Qader, 長，率いる of the Halabja 化学製品 Attack 犠牲者s' Society.

Shaheen Mahmoud, a Kurdish civil servant in the northern city of Sulaimaniya, said: "As soon as I heard Ali Hassan al-Majeed had received the death 宣告，判決 I was ecstatic and I began to 叫び声をあげる. But the bigger joy would be to see Majeed 遂行する／発効させるd in Kurdistan."

In Britain 自由主義の民主党員 leader Sir Menzies Campbell 警告するd that 謀反のs would 捜し出す天罰 when 化学製品 Ali was hanged - probably next month.

He also called for the executioners to make sure their 囚人 was 許すd to die in dignified circumstances. Saddam was taunted and 乱用d on the gallows and when his half-brother Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti was 遂行する／発効させるd, his 長，率いる was ripped off by the noose.

Sir Menzies 警告するd: "化学製品 Ali had become a 肉親，親類d of iconic 人物／姿／数字 in many 尊敬（する）・点s and I 疑問 very much if, once the 宣告，判決 has been passed, there won't be some 爆発.

"I think the 宣告，判決 was 必然的な in 見解（をとる） of the fact that death 宣告，判決s had been passed on others, but I think we'd all hope that if the death 宣告，判決 is carried out, it is carried out with rather more dignity."

He also 警告するd against Britain taking too much satisfaction at the 宣告，判決 because the 政府 at the time lent Saddam's 政権 money after the 1988 attack on Halabja.

裁判官 Mohammed al-Uraibi told Majeed: "You 問題／発行するd orders to 軍隊／機動隊s use all 武器s, 含むing 化学製品武器s that killed thousands, 追い出すd thousands and 拘留するd many who later died of hunger, 拷問 and 病気s. Many disappeared.

"You committed 罪，犯罪s against humanity, you committed 集団殺戮. There are enough 文書s against you."

Majeed, now in his 中央の-60s, 認める that he ordered 軍隊／機動隊s to 遂行する／発効させる Kurds who ignored orders to leave their villages, but 否定するd ordering the use of 毒（薬） gas.

Two others 宣告，判決d to hang for anti-Kurdish 残虐（行為）s were former defence 小型のs ter 暴君 Hashim Ahmad al-Tai and Hussein Rashid Mohammed, a former 副 director of 操作／手術s for the Iraqi 軍隊s.

Interrupting the 裁判官, Mohammed said the 被告s were defending Iraq against Kurdish 反逆者／反逆するs.

"God bless our 殉教者s. Long live the 勇敢に立ち向かう Iraqi army. Long live Iraq. Long live the Ba'ath party and long live Arab nations," he 宣言するd.

The 被告s have said the （選挙などの）運動をする had 合法的軍の的s - Kurdish guerillas who had 味方するd with Iran during the last 行う／開催する／段階 of the 1980-88 Iraq-Iran war.
