Banned from smoking outside...because it might 脅す the birds

Students and staff at a university have been banned from smoking outside their building - because it might 脅す the birds.

研究員s in the Stopford Building at Manchester University decided to 禁止(する) smoking in their quadrangle after the birth of five Sparrowhawk chicks two months ago.

Francine 陪審/陪審員団, of the Centre for 統合するd Genomic 医療の 研究 (CIGMR), which is based in the building, said no-one will smoke in the 中庭 until the birds have flown the nest - for 恐れる of 乱すing the chicks.

She said: "We thought it important that we gave the chicks the best possible start to life.

"The outdoor area is very popular with anyone who needs a quick cigarette between lectures or 会合s."

Staff at CIGMR have christened the chicks Lucy, Sissy, Theo, Alan and Phe after five of the 20 基準 amino 酸性のs 設立する in people's stomachs - すなわち Leucine, Cysteine, Threonine, Alanine and Phenylyalanine.
