Parents of Diana driver 'were told he wasn't drunk'

The parents of Henri Paul, the chauffeur 運動ing Princess Diana on the night she died, have spoken for the first time about fresh (人命などを)奪う,主張するs over whether he had been drunk.

They said Lord Stevens, the former 主要都市の Police commissioner who 調査/捜査するd the 1997 Paris 衝突,墜落 which killed Diana, Dodi Al 妖精/密着させるd and Mr Paul, had 保証するd them he had not been drunk.

But a month later in his 公式の/役人 報告(する)/憶測 into the 悲劇 Lord Stevens said Mr Paul had been three times over the French drink-運動 限界 when his Mercedes 衝突,墜落d.

At a 予審 of Diana's 検死 in London on Friday, the Paul family's lawyer called for Lord Stevens to be asked to explain the "甚だしい/12ダース discrepancy".

There have been 執拗な 報告(する)/憶測s since the 衝突,墜落 that the 事故 was 原因(となる)d by Mr Paul's 酔っ払い運転 at 速度(を上げる).

His father ジーンズ, 76, told how he and his 75-year-old wife Gisele had met with Lord Stevens.

"He was very polite and understanding," he said. "It took place in Paris and there was an interpreter 現在の.

"He said to us at one moment that he believed that Henri was not drunk. We told him we have known all along that he was not drunk.

"We told our British lawyer what he had said and then we heard that he [Stevens] had 結論するd that Henri was drunk. There is something not 権利 here.

Speaking at his home in Lorient, Brittany, he 追加するd: "There was something in his manner which was sort of apologetic.

"The way he looked at us and the feeling we got was that his 手渡すs were tied. As though he regretted what he was having to do.

"He asked us about Henri and we told him that the stories about him 存在 a drunk were all untrue."

Mr Paul said he was puzzled by why a third 検死官 had now been 任命するd to 扱う the 検死, 推定する/予想するd to begin in October.

"Didn't the first two fit the 法案?" he asked. "Is there one 合法的な system for th e 王室の Family and another for the ordinary people?"

Mrs Paul said: "The 苦痛 and the grief will not go away until we learn the truth and the whole truth. We have felt very alone over the years.

"Diana's two boys live with grief too. Every day they think of their mother. Every day I think of my son."

Mr Paul 追加するd: "We are getting old. I'm 76 and my eyesight is failing. I don't know whether I'll live long enough to know the whole truth about the 事故 in Paris."
