New shoes help Trevor the turkey chick to walk

Trevor the turkey chick could 井戸／弁護士席 be forgiven for 存在混乱させるd with his webbed feet that make him walk more like a duck.

But his 'slippers' have been 特に made to cure a problem of 厳しく curled-up toes and have saved his fluffy little life.

Now the 最新の治療 at the Animal 医療の Centre, in Chorlton, Manchester, could become 基準 with vets across the country.

Trevor, just three days old, was born with 'scrunched-up' toes, which made it difficult to walk.

Vet Pip Boydell, a partner in the 治療 centre, said: "The 伝統的な method of 取引，協定ing with a problem like this is to 適用する a small 木造の splint to straighten the toes.

"We tried that with Trevor, but it wasn't 効果的な, so we had to come up with something else.

"In the end, it turned out to be creating 誤った webbed feet by using board and surgical tape.

"It might 原因（となる）一時的な混乱, but we have 効果的に given him a life, because he can get to his food and compete with his fellow chicks in the normal way.

"He should only have to put up with it for a week or two, then the pads can come off and he'll be left with perfectly normal straight turkey toes.

"In 商業の産む／飼育するing 関心s, chicks like this would either be killed or die later 予定 to difficulties getting about.

"As their 団体／死体負わせる増加するs, it would become almost impossible to keep 動きやすい."

Trevor is owned by Pip's 商売／仕事 partner Rach el Pike, who incubates turkey eggs and 後部s chicks as a hobby.

The chick will luckily escape the carving knife this Christmas. Rachel said: "It takes 140 days for a bird to reach the point where it can be eaten, and happily for Trevor he's going to be timed out.

"He'll probably 結局最後にはーなる just wandering around the place like other assorted animals we have acquired."

Pip, a neuro-opthalmologist, says he will now use the technique with other winged 患者s and make sure the word is spread.

He said: "We pride ourselves on 開拓するing some very 複雑にするd 手続きs here, but we often return to basics, which can be just as much fun. I will probably 現在の the technique to fellow vets at さまざまな会合s."
