Amazing pictures from the biggest 巡礼の旅 on Earth

It is one of the greatest examples of human devotion on earth - a sea of white 式服s as hundreds of thousands of イスラム教徒s 注ぐd の上に the plain of Arafat east of メッカ today as the sun rose over the rocky hills for the day 場内取引員／株価 the 最高潮 of the 年次の haj 巡礼の旅.
They （機の）カム on foot, by bus and in 選ぶ-up トラックで運ぶs from Mina and other 場所／位置s in the direction of メッカ, 追加するing to a throng which will reach more than two million in the afternoon.
Saudi 当局 say more than 1.6 million people have entered Saudi Arabia for the event, the largest 宗教的な 集会 in the world, which 提起する／ポーズをとるs a 抱擁する logistical and 安全 challenge for the Saudi 当局.

巡礼者s make the 旅行 to メッカ in the second week of Dhu al-Hijjah - the twelfth month in the Islamic calendar - and 成し遂げる 祈りs and rituals in the days before the haj begins.
The haj has been marred in previous years by 解雇する／砲火／射撃s, hotel 崩壊（する）s, police 衝突／不一致s with protestors trying to politicise the haj and deadly 殺到s 原因（となる）d by overcrowding.
In January 2006, 346 muslims were 鎮圧するd and a その上の 200 were 負傷させるd on an overcrowded 橋（渡しをする）.
This year, more than 35,000 安全 staff are on 手渡す to 確実にする that this show of まとまり is a 平和的な one.

Shown on Iranian TV, 巡礼者s waved 調印するs 説 "Death to America" and "Death to イスラエル" and 詠唱するd スローガンs.
大統領 Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is 成し遂げるing haj this year at the 招待 of Saudi Arabia, a の近くに U.S. 同盟（する）.
Some of the most enthusiastic 巡礼者s spent the night on 開始する Arafat, also known as Jabal al-Rahma or the Mountain of Mercy, nestling in 割れ目s between the 玉石s. The night 空気／公表する was pleasantly 冷静な／正味の, with a 微風 from the 砂漠.
巡礼者s perched on the hillside said they had prayed for the 福利事業 and success of イスラム教徒s across the world.
Zaki Ali Ibrahim, an Egyptian driver working in Saudi Arabia, said he spent the whole night in 祈り with friends.
"I prayed that all イスラム教徒s may 栄える, and that I may 栄える with them," he said. "I felt that my 祈りs for イスラム教徒s were reaching God with strength."
Shazli Atallah Mohamed, a plumber from the southern Egyptian 州 of Qena, said that on the 丘の頂上 he felt he was closer to God than anywhere else on earth. "I prayed that God might 受託する us all into 楽園," he said.
A large group 詠唱するd 祈りs in unison, asking God to help fellow イスラム教徒s in areas of c onflict 含むing the Palestinian 領土s, Chechnya, Kashmir and Sudan.
As day spread across the plain, the size of the 巡礼の旅 （機の）カム to light.
A sea of people wrapped in white cloth streamed along six-小道／航路 roads to fill the plain, carrying mats, food, 審査するs against the sun, Korans and 祈り 調書をとる／予約するs.
It is the 義務 of every able-団体／死体d イスラム教徒 to make the haj at least once in their lifetime.
In a 陳列する，発揮する of 団結 and 約束, the 巡礼者s walk seven times around the Kaaba, touching the sacred 黒人／ボイコット 石／投石する at its corner.
They wear sacred 式服s called ihram and are forbidden to use cosmetics, shave or 削減（する） their nails while dressed in these.
They are also not 許すd to 断言する, argue, kill a living creature or have sex.
Over the five days of haj, more than two million イスラム教徒s, 25,000 of whom are British, will pass through the Grand イスラム教寺院.

Fruit 販売人s 始める，決める up 立ち往生させるs and tea stands suddenly appeared. African 仲買人 women spread their wares on the ground, 申し込む／申し出ing 祈り beads, incense and 祈り mats.
One man 申し込む／申し出d rides in the howdahs of camels, richly decorated with brocade and coloured pompoms.
The afternoon at Arafat, known in Arabic as the wuqouf or "standing", is an 必須の part of the 巡礼の旅 but the 必要物／必要条件s are not strict.
The noon 祈り and sermon at the Namera イスラム教寺院 is a major event, evoking the sermon which the Prophet Mohammad made from the hill in the year of his death in 632.
