Give 僕主主義 a chance in Pakistan

His mother assassinated. His grandfather hanged. An uncle 発射. Another 毒（薬）d.

In this tide of family and political 悲劇 it is impossible not to pity 19-year-old Bilawal Bhutto, who now takes on the dangerous dynastic 義務 of 名目上主要な Pakistan's most important 野党, the PPP.

But for now at least, real 力／強力にする doesn't 嘘（をつく） in his 手渡すs. While he 完全にするs his education at Oxford, the party will be run by his father, Benazir Bhutto's husband Asif Ali Zardari, known as "Mr 10 per cent" for his 申し立てられた／疑わしい汚職 as a 大臣 in 行方不明になる Bhutto's former 政府s.

It was Zardari who 支配するd the 驚くべき／特命の／臨時の圧力（をかける）会議／協議会 yesterday, called to 公表する／暴露する the contents of Benazir's will. Young Bilawal was 許すd to speak just a couple of lines before his father took 支配（する）／統制する.

How all this must delight the jihadists who 脅す Pakistan with 大混乱.

They have already killed the 欠陥d but undeniably 勇敢に立ち向かう and charismatic woman who held out the hope of 僕主主義 in her native land. They have destroyed what Al Qaeda 述べるs as a "precious American 資産". And they seem to have 後継するd in 延期するing the 選挙s planned for January 8.

Now they see the PPP 効果的に in the 手渡すs of a 政治家，政治屋 who is 広範囲にわたって非難するd - even by some 同僚s - for tainting the Bhutto 遺産／遺物. 一方／合間 there is 開始するing 緊張 over 相反する（人命などを）奪う，主張するs about who was behind the 暗殺 and even how 行方不明になる Bhutto was killed.

The dangers are obvious. Pakistan is of 決定的な importance, not only because of the 危険 that its 核の武器s might 落ちる into rogue 手渡すs, but because it is the base for Taliban fanatics fighting in Afghanistan and for テロリストs 行うing war on the West. This is a nation that cannot be 許すd to slide into anarchy.

That is why Gordon Brown is emphatically 権利 to 勧める大統領 Pervez Musharraf to 避ける any "重要な延期する" in 持つ／拘留するing 選挙s.

僕主主義 (even 欠陥d) 申し込む／申し出s the best prospect of ひったくるing the 率先 from Benazir Bhutto's 殺害者s. And of giving Pakistan - for all our sakes - the hope and 安定 it deserves.

実験（する） of leadership

On one thing at least, the leaders of our main parties agree: Gordon Brown and David Cameron believe 2008 could be 決定的な for Britain's political 未来.

From a 総理大臣 who has 苦しむd a sharp 減少（する） in 人気 - but seems to be clawing his way 支援する, によれば the 最新の投票 - comes a New Year 約束 that the next 12 months will see "real and serious changes" on everything from 年金s to health, 住宅 and education.

Bold ambitions. But as Mr Brown 認めるs, everything depends on the economy. Can we ride out the turbulence （打撃，刑罰などを）与えるd by the 全世界の credit crunch that is now the most 即座の challenge 直面するing Britain?

The 総理大臣 is in no 疑問. "Just as we withstood the Asia 危機, the American 後退，不況, the end of the IT 泡 and the trebling of oil prices and continued to grow, Britain will 会合，会う and master this new challenge," he 予報するs.

And given his remarkable 記録，記録的な／記録する as （ドイツなどの）首相／（大学の）学長, he could 井戸／弁護士席 be 権利.

But the crunch is far from over. Growth is slowing. House prices are 落ちるing. High 物価s are fuelling インフレーション. We are not out of the 支持を得ようと努めるd yet.

一方／合間, a 確信して David Cameron believes 2008 will 設立する the Tories as a 信頼できる代案／選択肢 to a "hopeless and incompetent" 政府, while 労働's Jack Straw 警告するs that Cameron's message is "resonating" with 投票者s.

Time will tell. The year ahead may 実験（する） Britain in many ways. Won't it also 実験（する） the leadership 質s of Messrs Brown and Cameron?
