The university has helped more than two million students to better themselves since it was 設立するd in 1969.

夜明け’s challenges are in a different league to most people’s. When she was 31 and 妊娠している with son Alexander, she had a 一打／打撃 that left her with ‘locked-in’ syndrome.
She is almost 全く paralysed, unable to talk, or live 独立して.
Her 単独の means of communication is by blinking. With a laptop that translates 注目する，もくろむ movements into text, it can take her a minute to type a word, and three weeks to 完全にする an exam.

The OU has 伝統的に been the ‘University of the Second Chance’, helping 円熟した students who are 持つ／拘留するing 負かす／撃墜する a 職業. But the number 入会させるing has 低迷d from 242,000 in 2011 to 173,927 in 2016. In that period, 年次の 料金s rose from £1,400 to £5,856. This followed the 連合’s 決定／判定勝ち（する） to 身を引く teaching 認めるs to English universities.
専門家s are now calling for the 政府 to give the OU and other part-time 会・原則s extra 補助金s so they can lower 料金s. Lord パン職人, who served as education 長官 under Margaret Thatcher, said: ‘The OU was one of the best things created 戦後の. It gave lots of young people a chance which they would not さもなければ have had.’
