The fashion １０年間 from hell: Why 1980s style still makes us wince

They used to say that if you could remember the 1960s you weren't really there.

A different 説 seems to 適用する to the 1980s - you can remember them, but you wish you didn't.

Yesterday the Eighties, with its ridiculous hairstyles, horrific fashions and cheesy music, was 指名するd the １０年間 most likely to make us cringe.

In all, more than seven out of ten adults said the 1980s produced the worst fashion of any time from the 1960s on.

And apart from the 罪，犯罪s against fashion, すなわち Flashdance legwarmers, shoulder pads, New Romantic frills and 過度の eyeliner (on men), there were no 不足 of other 推論する／理由s for making it a time we would like to forget.

The rise of comedian Ben Elton and the children's TV presenter Timmy Mallett were remembered with 当惑.

And on the music 前線, for every Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet winning a 投票（する） for 供給するing a favourite memory there were the wince-making 超過s of the 時代 to be considered, such as 黒人／ボイコット Lace's Agadoo and Do The Conga in 1984.

It seems the momentous events of the Thatcher years, such as the Falklands and the 鉱夫s' strike, cannot （太陽，月の）食／失墜 recollections of yuppies, shoulder pads, mullets, ra-ra skirts and the epic tacky soaps such as 王朝.

In contrast, the 1960s were 投票（する）d the "coolest" １０年間 thanks to the 小型の skirt, the Beatles and its 出資／貢献 to social change.

More than two thirds of the 3,000 調査するd looked 支援する with pride on the Sixties - although やめる a few had qualms when they 解任するd Reliant コマドリ cars, Carry On films, Jimmy Tarbuck, hippies and 解放する／自由な love.

But the 1980s 明確に didn't have a monopoly on bad taste.

The 泡 perm, sideburns, Benny Hill, ゆらめくs and bell 底（に届く） trousers were all いっそう少なく than 情愛深く remembered about the 1970s while the 1990s were 設立する 有罪の of giving us 爆撃する 控訴s, boy 禁止（する）d and puffa jackets.

The 調査する of 3,000 adults was carried out by UKTV Gold for its programme When Were We Funniest? The 80s.

A 広報担当者 for the channel said: "Brits are left so red-直面するd by the Eighties, whether they experienced the １０年間 or not, that a third of us would prefer to forget it ever happened."

But he 追加するd: "It's not all excruciating 当惑, with many people quick to point out that there were plenty of things they remembered 情愛深く from the １０年間 - with neon 着せる／賦与するing, leggings, perms and even Duran Duran all attracting 投票（する）s as the nation's favourite memories."
