観光旅行,事業 危機 'worst since 湾 War'
The 衝撃 of the foot-and-mouth 突発/発生 means Britain is 直面するing its worst tourist 危機 since the 湾 War of 1991, the British Tourist 当局 said today.
It could take three to four years for 観光旅行,事業 numbers and 歳入 to 回復する, 警告するd the 当局.
The BTA is to ask the 政府 for an extra £8 million on 最高の,を越す of £14.2 million already received, to help with advertising to 誘惑する overseas 訪問者s 支援する to Britain.
"This is definitely the worst 状況/情勢 we've been in since the 湾 War when, as now, the big-spending Americans stayed away and it took years for them to return," said BTA 広報担当者 Elliott Frisby.
"The foot-and-mouth 突発/発生, together with flooding last winter and the disruption to rail services, has 納得させるd some would-be overseas 訪問者s that Britain is not a good place to come to at the moment.
The BTA's comments (機の)カム as the British 歓待 協会 said the foot-and-mouth 突発/発生 could 井戸/弁護士席 wipe out all this year's 利益(をあげる)s for many 観光旅行,事業 操作者s.
The turnover of some hotels has fallen by more than 50% in 最近の months, said the 協会, which 代表するs the hotel, restaurant and leisure 産業.
Even in London, nearly half (49%) of hotels saw turnover 下落する by more than 10% from April to May this year.
"The 即座の 危機 may be over for many 商売/仕事s but there are some which are still 存在 very 不正に 攻撃する,衝突する," said (頭が)ひょいと動く Cotton, 長,指導者 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある of the 協会.
The BHA 調査する of nearly 500 UK hotels showed:
? 19% of hotels in 田舎の towns and 24% in the countryside saw 商売/仕事 減少(する) by than a 4半期/4分の1 in the period from April to May 2001.
? 64% of hotels 予測(する) a 拒絶する/低下する in 商売/仕事 for June to September 20012 compared with the same period last year.
? 15% are 見積(る)ing a loss of more than 15% for this period.
? The BHA's earlier estimation that the 突発/発生 will cost 国内の 観光旅行,事業 £2 billion, with a £3 billion loss of overseas 観光旅行,事業 歳入, was only too 正確な.
? One third of all hoteliers have cancelled all 投資 for this year.
Mr Cotton 追加するd: "With 歳入 負かす/撃墜する and 利益(をあげる)s disappearing, 商売/仕事s will continue to need 同情的な 治療 from their banks and other 財政上の 会・原則s, 同様に as 政府 and 地元の 当局 departments, for at least another year.
"There is no 疑問 the 回復 過程 will be long and painful. 農業者s have received more than £1 billion in 補償(金) but the 観光旅行,事業 産業 - which is four times larger and 平等に-不正に 攻撃する,衝突する - has only received a tiny fraction of that."
