探偵，刑事s 準備する to hang up their plain 着せる／賦与するs

Plain-着せる／賦与するs police in one 軍隊 may be 要求するd to go 支援する into uniform in an 試みる／企てる to 阻止する 罪，犯罪 and 安心させる the public.

Although they would continue to work as 探偵，刑事s they would have to wear the same 着せる／賦与するs as officers on the （警官の）巡回区域，受持ち区域.

The idea is ーするつもりであるd to make Sussex Constabulary's officers more 明白な, and is supported by Home 長官 David Blunkett, who has called for wide-範囲ing police 改革（する）s.

But it will be ひどく …に反対するd by the 階級 and とじ込み／提出する, who regard plain-着せる／賦与するs 探偵，刑事 work as a 示す of status.

It will also be closely watched by other 軍隊s.

Under the 提案s, around 700 officers, 含むing 探偵，刑事s, would switch from 非軍事の 着せる／賦与するs. Exceptions would be made for 探偵，刑事s working under cover or carrying out 監視.

'I think we have to recognise that the public want to see more officers on the street and if 探偵，刑事s are 明白な when they're out on 調査s that does 供給する 安心,' Superintendent Jim Dale, who is reviewing how Sussex Police can 増加する their visibility, told BBC 無線で通信する Five Live.

He said: 'I think there's real 長所 in putting 探偵，刑事s in uniform.

'It's something we're 活発に looking at and will be making a 推薦 to our police 当局.'

He 追加するd: '明白に not every officer would be wearing uniform as some of our 操作／手術s would be 妥協d if they did.'

The strength of 抵抗 that a change is likely to 会合，会う was illustrated yesterday by John Stalker, the former 副 長，指導者 constable of Greater Manchester Police.

He told 無線で通信する Five Live: 'This is an old idea which was discredited. It was a bad idea 20 years ago and is still a bad idea. It will not work, as a police 軍隊 is made up of different specialists.

'It is ludicrous to try and make everyone the same. All that will happen, I believe, is the 罪，犯罪 （犯罪，病気などの）発見 率 落ちるing and a public 激しい抗議.'

He said Sussex was the last f orce that should be 試みる／企てるing such a 過激な move in the light of its 最近の troubles.

Sussex Police 当局, which 監督するs the running of the 軍隊, will not be able to make a 決定／判定勝ち（する） on the 政策 until it has 任命するd a new 長，指導者 Constable, に引き続いて the 出発 of Paul Whitehouse.

He left, under 高度に-public 圧力 from Mr Blunkett, in the 影響 of a bungled （警察の）手入れ，急襲 in which a naked and 非武装の man was 発射 dead in his own bedroom.

Ideas for 増加するing police visibility have been put to the Home Office by the Police Superintendents' 協会.

But Sussex is the first 軍隊 to 示唆する they may soon be put into practice.

A PSA 広報担当者 said: 'Ideally we want more officers on the street, but we have to work with what we have got.

'We feel where possible officers should patrol alone rather than in pairs and where possible 探偵，刑事s should wear uniforms to 増加する visibility.'

She 追加するd: 'Officers get an allowance to buy plain 着せる／賦与するs, so the money spent on this could be put into 前線-line policing. Some 軍隊s have already stopped allowances.

'We also want to get away from the cultural stigma of 存在 in uniform.'

Mr Blunkett has made it （疑いを）晴らす that he believes many 探偵，刑事s would be more use out of plain 着せる／賦与するs, deterring 犯罪のs from committing 罪，犯罪s, rather than trying to catch them afterwards.

Earlier this month it 現れるd that he wants to 削減（する） 支援する 徹底的に on the number of two-person patrols.

Officers will be 推定する／予想するd to operate on their own unless there is a （疑いを）晴らす 安全 危険, such as late at night or in dangerous areas.

The 無視／無効ing 目的（とする） of his 改革（する）s is massively to 増加する police visibility.

He wants to 安心させる the public that Britain is safer than many people believe - 恐れる of 罪，犯罪 remains high even though 全体にわたる 罪，犯罪 levels are 落ちるing.

The Home 長官 has already 始める，決める up a steering group inside the Home Office to 押し進める through his changes.

によれば the Home Office, at any given time only 68 per cent of the country's 125,000 police are in uniform.

More than 22,000 are routinely on plainclothes 義務, with a わずかに smaller number 連合させるing both 職業s or on specialist 義務s.
