How Farage's turquoise tide could wash Corbyn into 負かす/撃墜するing Street: 労働 might こそこそ動く into 力/強力にする in 総選挙 as Brexit Party and Tories 争う for 投票(する)s

  • 労働 won in Peterborough 補欠選挙 as Tories and Brexit Party 分裂(する) 投票(する)?
  • The result shows the 可能性のある 適切な時期 for 労働 to come through middle?
  • Jeremy Corbyn could hoover up ごくわずかのs at 総選挙 if Tory 投票(する) 分裂(する)s?

Nigel Farage's Brexit Party won a 素晴らしい victory by coming 最高の,を越す in the European 選挙s last month.?

But the Peterborough 補欠選挙 result should 始める,決める alarm bells (犯罪の)一味ing about the true 衝撃 of his 'turquoise tide'.

The Brexit Party and the Tories 効果的に 分裂(する) the same group of 権利-leaning 投票者s, 許すing 労働 to slip through the middle and 勝利,勝つ with support from いっそう少なく than a third of those who cast 投票(する)s.

The 結果 raises the grim spectre of a 総選挙 where both Mr Farage and - probably - Boris Johnson 争う for the 肩書を与える of the true 支持する/優勝者 of Brexit, and only 後継する in 手渡すing the 重要なs of 負かす/撃墜するing Street to Jeremy Corbyn.

The 'first past the 地位,任命する' system used for UK 総選挙s could easily produce that シナリオ.?

Boris Johnson (pictured at his London home today) and Nigel Farage (pictured 配達するing a letter to No10) have been engaged in a 非難する game after the Peterborough debacle?

Jeremy Corbyn gloated that he is ready to win a general election as he met new Labour MP Lisa Forbes (right) in Peterborough today

One of its main strengths has been that it usually produces (疑いを)晴らす results, with either 労働 or the Tories having 伸び(る)d a (疑いを)晴らす 大多数 in almost all 選挙s for a century.

But when support for the two main parties fragments the picture quickly becomes more 複雑にするd.??

MPs 勝利,勝つ by getting the most support in each 選挙区/有権者. So even if the Tory 投票(する) and the Brexit Party 投票(する) 連合させるd is 大幅に more than that of a 労働 候補者, they still 勝利,勝つ.?

Mr Farage's outfit has nothing like the 選挙(人)の machine or 選挙区/有権者-level data about 投票者s that the 保守的なs do.?

The 恐れる is that in a Westminster 選挙 it would 単に eat into the Tory 投票(する) and 否定する them an MP, without getting the 批判的な 集まり needed to 勝利,勝つ large numbers of seats.

As in Peterborough, the biggest 受益者 of that 過程 is likely to be 労働 - who could 最高の,を越す the 投票 in swing seats that become の近くに three and even four-way contests.?

That is why Mr Johnson was 警告 today that 投票(する)ing for the Brexit Party r isked '配達するing Corbyn to No 10'.

Mr Farage, for his part, has been trying to make the 逆転する argument - 説 that 投票(する)ing Tory 覆うs the way for 労働.?

However, the consequences of such fragmentation could be very 予測できない and different across the country.

A 殺到する for the unashamedly Remain-支援 自由主義の 民主党員s could be 損失ing for 労働 in 都市の 中心地域s.

But in some areas 伸び(る)s for Vince Cable's party could also 傷つける the Tories.

Mr Corbyn also 直面するs a 抱擁する 上りの/困難な struggle to 安全な・保証する enough MPs to 命令(する) a workable 大多数 in 議会, as 労働 in Scotland shows no 調印する of breaking the stranglehold of the SNP.?

Labour's Lisa Forbes won 10,484 votes - less than third of the total, and beating Brexit Party candidate Mike Greene by just 683

労働's Lisa Forbes won 10,484 投票(する)s - いっそう少なく than third of the total, and (警官の)巡回区域,受持ち区域ing Brexit Party 候補者 マイク Greene by just 683

If the Brexit Party could replicate their European elections performance at a general election they would be sitting on a huge majority - but as the Peterborough result shows Westminster elections are a totally different kettle of fish
