The junk food 攻撃する,衝突する squad: As teachers 非難する 拘留,拘置s on pupils caught scoffing 急速な/放蕩な food outside school... is this ridiculous nannying ? or a 決定的な 手段 in the war on obesity?
- Junk food sold in shops 近づく Cotham School in Bristol off-限界s until recently
- Headteacher Jo Butler 警告するd 1,500 students that 急速な/放蕩な food result in 拘留,拘置
- She then (軍隊を)展開する,配備するd?teachers on to streets of 豊富な 郊外 to 施行する her 支配するs
Looking up from a polystyrene tray of barbecue chicken and 半導体素子s, Oscar Adams smiles and triumphantly says: 'This is my 祝賀 meal.'?
Such enthusiasm for a humble takeaway may seem 過度の, but the 16-year-old has been 否定するd his favourite after-school 扱う/治療する for three months and is savouring its return.
Until recently, chicken and 半導体素子s, and indeed all the tempting calorie-laden junk food sold in shops 近づく Cotham School in Bristol, had been off-限界s after headteacher Jo Butler 明らかに decided in September to 取り組む child obesity 長,率いる-on.
First, Ms Butler's 1,500 students were 警告するd that 存在 caught in 所有/入手 of a slice of pizza, a burger or 半導体素子s would result in a 拘留,拘置. Then she (軍隊を)展開する,配備するd teachers on to the streets of the 豊富な 郊外 to 施行する her 支配するs.

Some of the staff, によれば ますます irritated shopkeepers anxious about their 落ちるing takings, chose to 封鎖する shop doorways to 十代の少年少女s who 設立する the 誘惑する of a burger 圧倒的な.
One cafe owner called police to 介入する when tempers ゆらめくd.
The simmering 緊張 soon a ttracted the attention of the 国家の マスコミ and Ms Butler called a 一時休戦.?
The school then said that the patrols were about making sure pupils got home 安全に rather than about banning them from scoffing on unhealthy food, although shopkeepers, parents and pupils all 主張する it was the latter.
Whatever the 推論する/理由, the episode reignited a 審議 about Britain's growing child obesity 危機. Some critics (刑事)被告 the school of extreme nannying, while others said it was a good way of stopping youngsters from gorging on fatty food and piling on 負わせる.
That there is a problem is 否定できない. Public Health England says more than a third of children are overweight or obese when they start 第2位 school.
As waistlines have bulged, so have the number of 急速な/放蕩な-food 出口s, up by a third since 2010.
Perhaps more worryingly, 研究 by academics at Cambridge University 設立する that 1,800 schools in England are within 400 yards of ten or more takeaways.

It was against such a background that Ms Butler began the autumn 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 by 開始する,打ち上げるing the staff patrols, with teachers wearing high-vis jackets and carrying walkie-talkies to chaperone pupils on the half-mile 旅行 from the school gates to where many are 選ぶd up by buses.
Pupils and shopkeepers told The Mail on Sunday that staff members started 封鎖するing the doorways of their favourite after-school takeaway haunts.
Yet Oscar and his friends from the 井戸/弁護士席-regarded 包括的な are in no 疑問. 'Draconian, that's what the 政策 was,' he says between mouthfuls of 半導体素子s.
'School meals are no healthier than what we eat here. It's just pizzas from the freezer, 挟むs and unappealing pasta dishes, and it's more expensive. A bowl of soup and a 挟む costs £3.70 at school and it's a poor meal.'?
James Chapple, 17, agreed and called the school's patrols 'ridiculous', 追加するing: 'I'm old enough to 運動 and next year I'll be old enough to 投票(する), yet the school didn't 許す me to buy Maltesers or some 半導体素子s.
'I can understand we have to do as we're told on school grounds and in school hours, but when school ends or at lunchtime, we should be 許すd to do as we please as long as it's 合法的な and we're not 傷つけるing anyone.'

?Retailers were aghast at Cotham School's (pictured) 厳重取締 on junk food?
But obesity 選挙運動者s argue that the high fat, salt and sugar content in 急速な/放蕩な food is 原因(となる)ing children to pile on 負わせる, 潜在的に 原因(となる)ing 厳しい health problems such as 糖尿病 and heart 病気 later in life.
The same 窮地 直面するd teachers at Rawmarsh School in Rotherham in 2006 when Jamie Oliver tried to 学校/設ける a healthy eating 政策 に引き続いて the TV chef's work to try to 改善する school dinners.
In one famous scene from his TV 実験, parents were filmed こそこそ動くing burgers and fish and 半導体素子s through the 盗品故買者 to their children.
By popular 同意, the celebrity chef's 介入 did lead to an 改良 in the 質 of many school meals and, three years ago, the 政府 開始する,打ち上げるd a sugar 税金 on the soft drinks 産業.
Yet the number of 急速な/放蕩な-food 出口s continues to grow, driven by the nation's insatiable appetite for junk food. In London, where almost 40 per cent of ten and 11-year-olds are overweight or obese, 市長 Sadiq 旅宿泊所 has 約束d to 禁止(する) new takeaways from 開始 の近くに to schools.
支援する in Bristol, retailers were aghast at Cotham School's 厳重取締 on junk food.
They 含むd Neil D'Souza, 45, who has run the Chilli Bellies cafe since 2017 and said the 禁止(する) cost him £70 a day in lost 貿易(する). Worse still, he said, was the suggestion that he was selling junk food. 'All my food is home-made with good-質 成分s,' the father-of-two said.
'I'm a trained chef and I worked on 巡航する liners and the Marriott hotel chain for many years before I made my 商売/仕事 here.
' I love these kids and I'd never serve them junk food. I wouldn't serve them anything I wouldn't give my own children.'
The menu at Chilli Bellies 含むs Jamaican jerk chicken (£6.50), prawn chow mein (£5), beetroot veggie burger (£6) and, most popular の中で Cotham pupils, a £2 'student meal 取引,協定' of barbecue chicken, 半導体素子s and a fizzy drink.
Mr D'Souza (人命などを)奪う,主張するs when the junk food 禁止(する) began to ruffle feathers (more than 100 地元の people 結局 調印するd a 嘆願(書) …に反対するing it), Ms Butler misled parents by (人命などを)奪う,主張するing that he had asked her to 禁止(する) the children from entering his cafe.

'中途の through September, a fortnight or so after the 禁止(する) was 課すd, the school had an open day and some of the parents (機の)カム in to ask why I'd banned their kids from buying my food,' he 解任するd.
'I told them that was nonsense and the headteacher had banned them, but they told me she had just told them it was us who'd done the banning.
'I tried several times to 接触する Ms Butler but she didn't 答える/応じる, so when her teachers started 封鎖するing the 入り口 and 脅すing the kids, I called the police and then I called the 圧力(をかける).'
He believes that その後の マスコミ ニュース報道 embarrassed Ms Butler and led her to 解除するing her 禁止(する). He even (人命などを)奪う,主張するs that teachers 施行するing the school's 禁止(する) would buy 半導体素子s from his restaurant after finishing their after-school patrols. 'They were 存在 完全にする hypocrites,' he said. 'I felt so 堅固に about it that after a few weeks I 辞退するd to serve them.
'I told them I'd only serve them if the 禁止(する) on the kids was 解除するd. I 港/避難所't seen any of the teachers in here since and the one who 封鎖するd the door is on a lifetime 禁止(する).'
Uzma Rafiq, 43, runs the 隣人ing Tuck News 小型の-market, where children 在庫/株 up on crisps, chocolate and sugary drinks.
She said: 'Once the マスコミ got 伴う/関わるd, she had to 支援する 負かす/撃墜する because her 政策 was coming under scrutiny. Too many people were unhappy with it. It was costing my 商売/仕事 alone about £100 a day and my husband and I discussed selling up. But who would have bought the 商売/仕事 once they saw the accounts and saw how hard the 禁止(する) was hitting us?
'十代の少年少女s need to be 信用d to spend their pocket money as they wish. They're not idiots.
'They'll maybe have a 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業 of chocolate or a 捕らえる、獲得する of crisps on the way home, but I don't see obese children stuffing themselves with junk.
'I have four children, 老年の eight to 19, and I'm happy for them to have 甘い and savoury 扱う/治療するs once a day. There's nothing wrong with it. And we also sell fruit so if they want something healthier, they have the 選択.'
The 大多数 of 地元のs canvassed by The Mail on Sunday last week 味方するd with the shopkeepers. 'If these shops are 軍隊d to の近くに, that 逆に 影響する/感情s the whole community,' said Gillian Barlow.
Barbara Carr, one of those who 調印するd the 嘆願(書) to 解除する the 禁止(する), said: 'Surely there are more creative ways of 取り組むing this 問題/発行する, other than using 高度に 技術d teachers to police shops.'
Both the school, which was 率d as 'good' by Ofsted に引き続いて its 最新の 査察 in 2018, and Ms Butler last week 拒絶する/低下するd requests to comment.
However, a 声明 on the school's website says staff have …を伴ってd students as they 長,率いる for home for many years but that 'our 決定/判定勝ち(する) over the last few weeks to advise students that they should not use the shops 位置を示すd on the 大勝する… ーするために その上の 補助装置 their 安全な passage home has been met with a mixed 返答'.
The message 追加するs: 'Having taken all of the 見解(をとる)s received into consideration ... we have decided that we will no longer 供給する a staff presence in the 周辺 of the shops.'
Tam Fry, chairman of the 国家の Obesity 会議, has かなりの sympathy for Ms Butler and the challenge 直面するing her school and its staff.
He said: 'They were doing it for the 権利 推論する/理由s, but teachers cannot 行為/法令/行動する as junk food policemen.
'Schools across the country are coming up against this problem and they have been pleading with 地元の 当局 to 限界 開始 hours so pupils cannot just pile into these 急速な/放蕩な-food places at lunchtime or after school.
'But the problem is that these 商売/仕事s are important for 地元の 会議s. They 供給する 雇用 and 商売/仕事 率s income. This is people's 暮らしs you are 潜在的に messing with.
'The one thing 政府 could do is introduce 法律制定 which 限界s how much fat, salt and sugar can be served in a meal, but they would 直面する an enormous (激しい)反発 over that as 存在 some sort of nanny 明言する/公表する 支配(する)/統制する.
'The long answer is 増加するd education in schools about food and 認識/意識性 about healthy eating, but there isn't a quick 直す/買収する,八百長をする.'??
