Dear Boris... 開始 the floodgates to food that would be 違法な here betrays our 農業者s and our children: JAMIE OLIVER joins Mail on Sunday's (選挙などの)運動をする to save our family farms with a 熱烈な open letter to PM

Dear Boris?

I hope you are 井戸/弁護士席 and your family is 安全な. I 令状 this letter because I believe you’re about to 本気で 土台を崩す public health and unpick the delicate patchwork quilt of 農業者s and food 生産者s who are the backbone of this country.

While we’ve all been 焦点(を合わせる)d on the fallout from this dreadful pandemic, most people reading this probably won’t know that you’ve whipped your MPs to 投票(する) 負かす/撃墜する the 農業 法案 改正s that would have 持続するd British food and animal 福利事業 基準s for 未来 貿易(する) 取引,協定s and 輸入するs.

We could be about to open the floodgates to a whole raft of low-質 food that would 普通は be 違法な in the UK. Chlorinated chicken is just the tip of the iceberg. We’re talking about genetically 修正するd food, stuffing animals 十分な of hormones and 抗生物質s, banned pesticides that kill our bees, and an 雪崩/(抗議などの)殺到 of foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar.

What’s more, we’ll be 脅すing the 未来 of our 農業者s and food 生産者s who, にもかかわらず 驚くべき/特命の/臨時の challenges, have worked so hard to keep us fed throughout the Covid-19 危機.

Boris, it is in your 力/強力にする to 地図/計画する out an intelligent structure where we 持続する Britain’s high 基準s but also 保持する the ability to strike 貿易(する) 取引,協定s that are good for the economy.

In my opinion, some of the biggest 現れるing economies are hungry for a 信用d and 安全な food 供給(する), and this is where we can 繁栄する. Brand Britain and its wealth of food 生産者s are perfectly placed to 配達する, but if food 基準s are 弱めるd, a race to the 底(に届く) will 続いて起こる ? and I believe that’s a race we will lose. Public health will be 妥協d and our ability to 輸出(する) 質, 信用d 製品 will 減らす.

We shouldn’t need reminding that Covid-19 seems to have 起こる/始まるd in the food chain. This 危機 has made us all stop and think a bit more about what we eat, where our food comes from and how it 影響する/感情s our 団体/死体s.

The 協会 between high 基準s, food safety, animal 福利事業, 倫理学, traceability and sustainability has never been more important. These 事柄s 影響する/感情 us all, every day.

Boris, I know you need to lead in a way that 許すs your teams to do their 職業 when it comes to 貿易(する) 取引,協定s. I 推定する you 投票(する)d 負かす/撃墜する the 改正 to give you a blank sheet of paper ーするために get 取引,協定s done quickly.

Of course we want 貿易(する), but not at any cost. Having 基準s ? in 法律 ? will 現実に 強化する your 手渡す in 交渉s. I believe you have it in you to find the 権利 balance. What looks like a simple piece of 法律制定 will 示す you in history either as a 後見人 to the land and its 繁栄, or as someone who opened Pandora’s box to the quick 腐食 of the food and farming 産業s.

'Ultimately we should be striving to push trade partners? standards up, not negotiating our own down,' says Jamie Oliver

'最終的に we should be 努力する/競うing to 押し進める 貿易(する) partners’ 基準s up, not 交渉するing our own 負かす/撃墜する,' says Jamie Oliver

This is a pivotal moment ? an 適切な時期 for us to build a stronger and better food system.

If it turns out that other countries can produce food to British 基準s and sell it to us at a cheaper price than we can produce it ourselves, then fair play to them.

Of course we need to be 柔軟な and we need to be open to 貿易(する)ing with both old friends and new. But 最終的に we should be 努力する/競うing to 押し進める 貿易(する) partners’ 基準s up, not 交渉するing our own 負かす/撃墜する.

As 批判的な 貿易(する) 交渉s heat up, we must 確実にする we’ve learned our lesson from this pandemic. It has 最高潮の場面d the need for us to 簡単にする our food system so we are いっそう少なく reliant on 輸入するs.

The UK is blessed with some of the best food 生産者s in the world ? something we should value and 保護する ? yet we 現在/一般に produce only 53 per cent of our veg and 16 per cent of our fresh fruit.

Our 気候 is perfectly ふさわしい to growing produce, so we could easily grow more, not only for ourselves but for 輸出(する), too.

And producing more fruit and veg here in the UK would, of course, be good for the 惑星, too.

Boris, I 勧める you to take a fresh approach to the 農業 法案.

Only you have the 力/強力にする to 始める,決める us on the 権利 path. Only you have the 力/強力にする to get all those MPs to 投票(する) for the 改正 (and Rishi, please don’t accidentally 圧力(をかける) the wrong 投票(する)ing button again). This 法案 should be about 支持する/優勝者ing our high 基準s in food safety and traceability, animal 福利事業 and care for our 環境.

It should 確実にする that British 農業者s and food 生産者s can continue to 発展させる and to 配達する 維持できる, healthy food without having to worry about 存在 不公平に undercut.

I know y ou have Britain’s best 利益/興味s at heart, 総理大臣, but true 僕主主義 cannot rely on one man or woman’s word ? it 要求するs the 保証/確信 of a 継続している 合法的な 枠組み that interrogates and scrutinises the 決定/判定勝ち(する)s that 影響する/感情 British 商売/仕事s and public health.

We have only a few days to get this 権利, ahead of the next 批判的な 審議 in the House of Lords on June 10. Hopefully, the public will already be 令状ing letters to their 地元の MPs to 発言する/表明する their 関心s.

This is a unique 適切な時期 for you, as 総理大臣, to 論証する real leadership and reshape our food system for the better.

It’s an 適切な時期 to support all those 重要な 労働者s who’ve 確実にするd we were able to put a meal on our tab les throughout this 危機. An 適切な時期 to 許す the UK to 始める,決める the 基準 for 維持できる food 生産/産物, and ? crucially ? to put public and child health at the true heart of 政府.

Good-質 food should be accessible to everyone but, having (選挙などの)運動をするd on child health for the best part of 20 years now, I am incredibly 関心d about the 衝撃 that bad 貿易(する) 取引,協定s could have on our children.

Our kids will be the most 攻撃を受けやすい if our markets are flooded with unhealthy foods high in fat, salt and sugar.

We need to put our children’s health first. 権利 now, more than ever, we need our kids to grow up strong and healthy, ready to 直面する whatever life throws at them.

We’ve just seen, for example, that 存在 obese or overweight made people more 攻撃を受けやすい to Covid-19. We 絶対 must give our kids the best possible chance of making healthy choices.

Boris, as you’ve rightly said yourself, we 借りがある it to our 未来 世代s to build 支援する better.

One in eight 職業s in the UK is in food 供給(する). This 農業 法案 is a 批判的な first 適切な時期 to help the economy bounce 支援する and to support thousands of small family 商売/仕事s, while also 保護するing our health and countryside. 総理大臣, please take this 適切な時期 and 安心させる us that food 基準s won’t be 妥協d.

Best wishes Jamie?
