Cliff Lines, best known as the work rider of the brilliant but ill-運命／宿命d 1981 Derby 勝利者 Shergar, is hoping to 屈服する out with a 勝利者 as a trainer with his last 走者 Catapult at Lingfield on Wednesday.

Lines, who will be 84 next month, was still riding out until 12 months ago but has decided it is time to end 操作／手術s at his small stable 近づく Newmarket.

Born in Edinburgh but brought up in Middlesex, Lines had no family 関係s with racing before joining 伝説の trainer Sir Noel Murless in 1949.

Lines said: 'I have been associated with lots of good horses. Shergar probably was the best. He was unbelievable. He never ever worked off the bridle. I was there on Derby Day. It was a 広大な／多数の／重要な day.

'We'd had a little bit on him at 33-1 in the Spring after he had done a good gallop. When he finished 10 lengths in 前線 of two decent horses and I hadn't moved on him, that day told us how good he was.'

Lines continued working for Stoute after he bought his stable in 1989, with the stable 事実上の／代理 as an overspill 施設 for his boss. He has trained a handful of horses under his own 指名する since 2011.

Lines said: 'I am coming up to 84 I thought it was time to say goodbye to it. I have been doing it a long time, almost 70 years. I have been lucky with the few horses I have had and I am hoping Catapult can 勝利，勝つ.
