One of the big 利益s of electric 乗り物s ? that helps keep 維持費s 負かす/撃墜する ? is they're 免除された from many 税金s, 含むing road 税金.

However, that's 始める,決める to change next year, as 無-放出/発行 and low 放出/発行 乗り物s? will have to start 支払う/賃金ing 乗り物 Excise 義務 (さもなければ known as road 税金) in the same way as 内部の 燃焼 engine (ICE) 乗り物s do.

Why are VED 率s changing for EVs and low 放出/発行 乗り物s?

The 政府 発表するd?changes to VED in its Spring 予算 in April. It was 始める,決める out as a way to 確実にする all drivers begin to 支払う/賃金 a fairer 税金 出資/貢献.

VED brought in £7.4 billion 税金 歳入 for the 政府 in 2022/23 によれば the House of ありふれたs library. This is 予報するd to rise to £9.4billion by 2027/28.

When do the changes come in?

1 April 2025

How much VED will I have to 支払う/賃金?

This depends on when the low 放出/発行 (hybrid and plug-in hybrid) or 無-放出/発行 car's 登録(する)d.

New electric and low 放出/発行 cars 登録(する)d on or after 1 April 2025:

For the first year these cars will 支払う/賃金 just £10. This will go up to the 基準 VED 率 (that all other cars 支払う/賃金), which is 現在/一般に £190, from year two.

EVs and low 放出/発行 cars 登録(する)d between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2025:

Will have to 支払う/賃金 the 十分な VED 率 (現在/一般に 始める,決める at £190) from the get-go.

The 基準 率 of VED is 支配する to change for 2025, but no 改正 has been made.

Electric and low 放出/発行 cars 登録(する)d between 1 March 2001 and 31 M arch 2017:

Will move to the first 禁止(する)d that has a VED value (as defined by the Department for 輸送(する)) which is 現在/一般に £20.

Again, this 率 is 支配する to change for 2025, but no 改正 has been given.

VED band rates for cars registered on or after 1st April 2017 - will now apply to EVs and low emission cars registered before 31 March 2025

VED 禁止(する)d 率s for cars 登録(する)d on or after 1st April 2017 - will now 適用する to EVs and low 放出/発行 cars 登録(する)d before 31 March 2025

How to know if your car is low 放出/発行s?

If you're not 運動ing a fully-electric (殴打/砲列 Electric or BEV) but you car is low 放出/発行s, you might not be sure which VED 禁止(する)d your モーター 落ちるs into.

The easiest way to check is to look at the gov.uk website where the 禁止(する)d are 始める,決める out, and then check the CO2 放出/発行s for your car.

You can do this by using the 政府's CO2 放出/発行s checker 道具. You don't have to have already bought the car; you can check new unregistered cars too.

0g/km 適用するs to all 無 放出/発行 EVs, while most plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) like the UK's best-selling Ford Kuga PHEV will be in the second CO2 放出/発行s 禁止(する)d of 1 to 50g/km of CO2.

For example, the 2024 Ford Kuga 放出するs 25g/km of CO2, so a new Kuga PHEVs 登録(する)d on or after 1 April 2025 it will only have to 支払う/賃金 £10 for year one.?< /p>

The second 税金 支払い(額) onwards will be £190 (or whatever the 2026 率 is 始める,決める at).

What about alternatively fuelled 乗り物s (AFVs)?

代案/選択肢 燃料s are defined by the 政府 as '燃料 or 力/強力にする sources which serve, at least partly, as a 代用品,人 for 化石 oil sources in the energy 供給(する) to 輸送(する)'.?

These 含む hydrogen, liquid or gaseous biofuels, synthetic 燃料s, compressed natural gas (CNG) and 液化するd 石油 gas (LPG).

They 申し込む/申し出 a cleaner (and いつかs cheaper) 代用品,人 to 石油 and ディーゼル.

Up until th is point AFVs received a £10 年次の 割引 on VED, but this will be 除去するd from 1 April 2025.

The 率 you will 支払う/賃金 for an AFV will depend on when the 乗り物 was first 登録(する)d.

登録(する)d before 1 April 2017: This 率 will depend on the 乗り物's CO2 放出/発行s (use the same govt 道具 to check).

登録(する)d on or after 1 April 2017: You'll 支払う/賃金 the 基準 率 of VED (現在/一般に that £190 but it's 支配する to change for 2025).

Are motorcycles and 先頭s 支配する to changes?

From 1 April 2025 無-放出/発行 and low 放出/発行 先頭s will move into the same flat 率 VED bracket as 石油 and ディーゼル 先頭s, which is 現在/一般に £290 a year.

Motorbikes and tricycles will be 税金d on the 年次の 率 for the smallest engine size - which is 現在/一般に £22 a year. These can be checked on the 乗り物 税金 率s page.

What other changes are happening? The Expensive Car 補足(する)

From 1 April 2025, electric 乗り物s will no longer be 免除された from the 'Expensive Car 補足(する)'.

New 石油 and ディーゼル cars with a 名簿(に載せる)/表(にあげる) price of more than £40,000 are 支配する to a £355 割増し料金 for the first five years of 登録.

From April next year this will 適用する to EVs and low 放出/発行 cars ? you'll have to 支払う/賃金 the 割増し料金.

Are company car 税金 率s changing too?

With 私的な EV sales 立ち往生させるing, but 商売/仕事 and (n)艦隊/(a)素早い sales 殺到するing ahead, company car 税金 breaks are very important.

Most 商売/仕事s choose EVs because of the?attractive 利益-in-肉親,親類d 率s for these models. And the good news is that these incentives will continue after April 2025, and won't be 攻撃する,衝突する in the same way as VED.

BiK 率s for cars emitting 75g/km or いっそう少なく will 増加する by one per cent a year, starting in 2025-26.
