ANDREW NEIL: The 落ちる of Humza Useless means independence is dead for a 世代. The only 遺産/遺物 of the SNP is 拒絶する/低下する and decay

The 辞職 of Scottish First 大臣 Humza Yousaf is more than just the demise of a hapless nonentity who was never up to the 職業 anyway.

It is a milestone 場内取引員/株価 the end, at last, of the SNP's arrogant 支配 of Scottish politics for almost two 10年間s. The 国家主義者s now 直面する 敗北・負かす in Westminster and Holyrood 選挙s.

But most 意味ありげに of all, it symbolises the demise of the SNP's defining goal of Scottish independence. That is now dead for a 世代, if not longer. The Union is 安全な for the foreseeable 未来.

Those who wish to keep the Union 損なわれていない are indebted to Yousaf, an unwitting 同盟(する) to the 原因(となる). But, in truth, the SNP's 分離主義者 事業/計画(する) was coming off the rails even before he moved into Bute House 13 short, 悲惨な months ago.

Under his 前任者, Nicola Sturgeon, always given more credit for her political acumen by the London-based マスコミ than she ever deserved, the 追求(する),探索(する) for independence had already run out of road.

The resignation of Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf?is a milestone marking the end of the SNP?s arrogant domination of
Scottish politics for almost two decades, writes Andrew Neil

At the same time, it was becoming (疑いを)晴らす that her 政府 was making an unholy mess of the things that really 事柄d to Scots, like schools, hospitals and roads. No wonder she scuttled for the 出口 before the roof fell in, bequeathing Yousaf a weak 手渡す which he proceeded to play 不正に.

Nobody should be surprised by this. Yousaf made a hash of everything he touched in 政府 but, so shallow is the Holyrood 遺伝子 pool, he could always count on 存在 促進するd to his next level of 無資格/無能力.

Like many an over-確信して public school boy who never had a proper 職業 outside politics, he seemed to think he could glide through life without 存在 overburdened by homework or 準備.

He is by no means a bad man, or even 汚い. But vanity and stupidity can be a 致命的な cocktail.

As 輸送(する) 大臣 he failed to 配達する two フェリー(で運ぶ)s for Scotland's 貧しく-served western islands which were meant to become 操作の on his watch. (Years late and tens of millions over 予算 they have still to start service.)

He made no 進歩 in turning the A9, Scotland's most dangerous road, into a 二重の car riageway. But he did become the first ever 輸送(する) 大臣 to be pulled over for 運動ing without 保険.

As 司法(官) 大臣, he fathered the ludicrous hate 罪,犯罪 法律制定 which has (名声などを)汚すd Scotland's 全世界の 評判 for 解放する/自由な speech and became a 国家の joke on 実施.

As health 大臣 he left Scotland's NHS in even worse 形態/調整 than he 設立する it, which was やめる an 業績/成就 since he had taken over during the pandemic. The 最近の Covid 調査 審理,公聴会s 明らかにする/漏らすd a health 大臣 out of his depth.

にもかかわらず far greater 基金ing than the English NHS, barely one 重要な health 的 was met while he was in 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金 and now, for the first time, 私的な healthcare is にわか景気ing north of the 国境.

A 跡をつける 記録,記録的な/記録する of 失敗 like this should have disqualified him from becoming First 大臣. But it didn't. He had Sturgeon's blessing, he was amiable, young and 進歩/革新的な. His sister had once dubbed him 'Humza Useless'. He proceeded to live up to the 愛称 she gave him.

The SNP was in turmoil by the time Nicola Sturgeon stepped down, with membership in freefall and the police all over the party like a rash, says Andrew Neil

The SNP was in 騒動 by the time Nicola Sturgeon stepped 負かす/撃墜する, with 会員の地位 in freefall and the police all over the party like a 無分別な, says Andrew Neil

'I will not 貿易(する) my 原則s to stay in 力/強力にする,' he said in his 辞職 声明 yesterday. In fact, he has no 原則s. He 単に mouthed 流行の/上流の 進歩/革新的な platitudes, which went unchallenged in the Left-wing echo 議会 he 住むd. It made him inclined to go along with every madcap 計画/陰謀 the SNP's Green 連合 partners 提案するd.

His political touch was tenuous. He pitched himself as '連続 Sturgeon' just as her 評判 was 存在 trashed.

He hitched himself to the gender self-身元確認,身分証明 zealots, 促進するd by the Greens, even though they had already done much to 土台を崩す Sturgeon's standing with a Scottish public which is much more socially 保守的な than its political エリート. He bought into impossible 削減(する)s in 気候 放出/発行 基準s by 2030, 要求するing the hugely 人気がない 除去 of one million gas boilers.

He brought a slapstick, Keystone 警官,(賞などを)獲得するs element to the 回廊(地帯)s of 力/強力にする. The SNP camper 先頭 掴むd by the police and the police テント 築くd on Sturgeon's garden had already made Scotland something of a laughing 在庫/株 but Yousaf did his bit to 追加する to the gaiety of the nation: 落ちるing off his scooter in a Holyrood 回廊(地帯), struggling with scissors as he tried to 削減(する) a 略章 at an office 開始, bleating that he 'didn't mean... to make them [the Greens] angry' when he 終結させるd the SNP's 力/強力にする-株ing 協定.

His 失敗 to see this and the fact he was bereft of a 計画(する) B was what brought him 負かす/撃墜する in the end and 示唆するs he's not really ふさわしい to politics. There were times w 女/おっせかい屋 he made even Liz Truss look competent. His 出発 leaves the SNP in tatters.

The two modern 巨大(な)s of Scottish 国家主義 are much 減らすd. The SNP was in 騒動 by the time Sturgeon stepped 負かす/撃墜する, with 会員の地位 in freefall and the police all over the party like a 無分別な. Her husband, until recently the SNP 長,指導者 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある, 直面するs 使い込み,横領 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s, her hopes of becoming an 年上の stateswoman on the international 行う/開催する/段階 now dashed.

When her 前任者 and 助言者 Alex Salmond went on 裁判,公判 for さまざまな 性の 強襲,強姦 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s, he was acquitted on all counts 妨げる/法廷,弁護士業 one 'not proven'. But what we learned in that 裁判,公判 sullied his 評判 irretrievably.

When it comes to its best-known 直面するs, the SNP is not in a good place.

Then there's its 記録,記録的な/記録する after 17 years in 力/強力にする. With independence a distant 麻薬を吸う dream once more, that is all it has to 落ちる 支援する on. It is not much to 誇る about.

拒絶する/低下する and decay have been the order of the day. By 1900, more than one in five of the world's ships were 存在 built on the Clyde. Now it can't even manage two island フェリー(で運ぶ)s. An education system, in which a kid like me from a 会議 広い地所 (or '計画/陰謀' in Scotland) could get a world-class education at a 16th century school (Paisley Grammar) and a 15th century university (Glasgow), is in sad 拒絶する/低下する. Scottish schools have 急落するd 負かす/撃墜する the international league (米)棚上げする/(英)提議するs.

The attainment gap ― a 手段 of the difference between the 業績/成果 of poor and 豊富な children ― has 広げるd so that for the first time in 記録,記録的な/記録するd history a poor English kid gets a better education than a poor Scottish kid.

And places at Scottish universities for Scots students are 存在 削減(する) (they 支払う/賃金 no 料金s so the places have to be rationed), while overseas students ― who 支払う/賃金 十分な 料金s ― are welcomed in ever larger numbers.

More fundamentally, the SNP has done nothing to reposition Scotland for success in the 21st century.

Its 財政上の services have never really 回復するd from the 広大な/多数の/重要な 衝突,墜落 of 2008: famous 指名するs such as Bank of Scotland, 王室の Bank and 基準 Life are either no more or a 影をつくる/尾行する of their former selves.

North Sea oil, on which the SNP once said it could build a 繁栄する 独立した・無所属 Scotland, is in 拒絶する/低下する ― and the party now wants to 段階 it out altogether.

Glasgow is 苦境に陥るd in 都市の squalor once more, its 衛生設備 労働者s fearful of 存在 bitten by ネズミs. Even 豊富な Edinburgh is fraying at the 辛勝する/優位s. World-famous Princes Street is a 不名誉.

Yousaf's political career has ended and the SNP dream of 分離 has ended in a rude awakening. The 部隊d Kingdom will remain 損なわれていない. This is to be celebrated.

But much 損失 has been (打撃,刑罰などを)与えるd on Scotland. Those 責任がある the vandalism will soon be gone. But who will put it 権利 is uncertain.

The Tories won't be given the chance and, on many 政策s, Scottish 労働 is too often just SNP-lite.

A Scottish renaissance would be the best way to bury 分離主義 for ever. It remains, 式のs, some way off.
