The new statins? Millions of us already take pills that 減ずる cholesterol and 削減(する) our heart attack 危険. Now 専門家s say we should be on a 麻薬 to 的 another 可能性のある 殺し屋 in the 血...

Eight million Britons take statins to 削減(する) their cholesterol levels and 保護する them from a heart attack or 一打/打撃, and nine million are on 麻薬s to 減ずる 血 圧力.

Could many soon be 申し込む/申し出d more 医薬s to その上の 減ずる their 危険s?

That was the suggestion last week at the American College of Cardiology 会議/協議会 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Over the past 10年間, heart 研究員s have been 焦点(を合わせる)d on 取り組むing a type of cholesterol called LDL ? low-濃度/密度 lipoprotein ? the form most closely linked with heart 病気. Statins were the first and most successful 治療 to 取り組む this fatty 実体 in the 血. And in 最近の years a number of other 麻薬s have been developed to do the same thing.

But now there's a new 的 of 関心 ? another 肉親,親類d of fat that is 設立する in the 血, called triglyceride.

Our triglyceride level features on every cholesterol 実験(する). However, until recently, it has been 大部分は ignored, おもに because it was believed it was 害のない, if not 有益な, as triglyceride is used by the 団体/死体 for energy.

Another kind of fat found in the blood, known as triglyceride, is now worrying heart researchers. It features on every cholesterol test, but until recently it has been largely ignored

But more 最近の 研究 shows an 過度の 量 in the 血 can 封鎖する arteries and 誘発する/引き起こす life-脅すing 複雑化s such as heart attacks and 一打/打撃s. Raised triglycerides can also 原因(となる) pancreatitis ? a life-脅すing 複雑化 where the 膵臓, a (分泌する為の)腺 in the abdomen, becomes inflamed.

Surprisingly, about a fifth of UK adults have worryingly high triglyceride levels. The problem is most ありふれた の中で over-60s ? although many people are unaware they are at 危険.

In most 事例/患者s, a raised level is 誘発する/引き起こすd by obesity and a 欠如(する) of 演習, 同様に as other health 条件s such as 糖尿病 and 腎臓 病気. These 患者s tend to also have high levels of LDL.

However, 概略で a tenth of adults have genetic abnormalities that mean their triglycerides are elevated, にもかかわらず having a 比較して healthy lifestyle and low LDL levels.

And there are two new 麻薬s, 明かすd last week, 目的(とする)d at 取り組むing the problem.

One, a jab called plozasiran, was able to 減ずる triglycerides in 患者s with 極端に high levels by three-4半期/4分の1s in six months. The 治療 is given 経由で an 注射 once every three months, and the findings were 述べるd by the lead r esearcher, Professor Daniel Gaudet, a cardiologist at the University of Montreal, as '驚くべき/特命の/臨時の'.

The other 薬/医学, olezarsen, was given to 患者s with moderately raised triglycerides. Given as a once-a-month 注射 for nearly a year, it 減ずるd triglyceride levels by about half ? 支援する to a 安全な 量.

Both 治療s 封鎖する the 団体/死体 from creating a protein called apoC3, which helps the 肝臓 turn carbohydrates into triglycerides.

専門家s say more 研究 is needed to 結論する how many deaths and hospitalisations plozasiran and olezarsen will help 妨げる, but they 推定する/予想する them to make a big difference.

'We've known for many years that high triglycerides are linked to cardiovascular 病気, but in the past there weren't any 明確な/細部 治療s,' says Professor Derek Connolly, 顧問 cardiologist at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS 信用.

Statins have a limited effect on triglyceride levels in the blood, says Professor Derek Connolly

Statins have a 限られた/立憲的な 影響 on triglyceride levels in the 血, says Professor Derek Connolly

'Statins and fish oil have some 影響, but not much. These new 麻薬s will be phenomenally useful, 特に because they will 保護する 患者s against pancreatitis, which can be a really serious 条件.'

The good news didn't end there, with other 告示s at the 会議/協議会 that are 始める,決める to 改善する the heart health of 患者s across the UK. Read on to find out more...

Keyhole is safest for 弁 交替/補充

NHS 長,指導者s were 勧めるd last night to 申し込む/申し出 thousands of 患者s with worn out heart 弁s a keyhole 操作/手術, after 研究 証明するd it was more 効果的な than open heart 外科.

More than 300,000 people in the UK を煩う aortic 弁 stenosis ? when one of the 決定的な 弁s 狭くするs and 減ずるs 血 flow, 原因(となる)ing chest 苦痛, 疲労,(軍の)雑役 and 増加するing the 危険 of heart 失敗. The 大多数 of 患者s have to を受ける open heart 外科 to have the 弁 changed. While often 効果的な, it's a major 手続き with a long 回復.

There is, now, a いっそう少なく invasive 代案/選択肢 called transcatheter aortic 弁 implantation (TAVI). It 伴う/関わるs threading an 人工的な 弁 into the heart 経由で a catheter 挿入するd into a vein in the groin.

While speedier than open heart 外科, TAVI is more expensive ? each 手続き costs around £10,000 ? so has been rationed for only the 患者s who need it the most. But 専門家s hope this will change, thanks to the findings.

The German 裁判,公判, which 伴う/関わるd about 1,400 患者s, 設立する they are 意味ありげに いっそう少なく likely to die or 落ちる 厳しく ill than those with open heart 外科. 現在/一般に, only around 7,000 TAVIs take place on the NHS every year ? reserved for 年輩の 患者s みなすd ありそうもない to 生き残る 外科. Last year, the NHS 誓約(する)d to 増加する this number by 1,500, but doctors say a much larger 拡大 is needed.

'There is no question that TAVI is a much いっそう少なく invasive 手続き, which 原因(となる)s より小数の 傷害s,' says Dr Daniel Blackman, a cardiologist at 物陰/風下d Teaching Hospitals NHS 信用. 'But these are really striking results which bring home the 利益s. 患者s, 関わりなく their age, would much rather have a TAVI any day of the week, and the NHS should 許す more of them to get one.'

Angina implant that slows 血 flow

患者s with 厳しい angina chest 苦痛s could soon be 申し込む/申し出d a 開拓するing British-developed implant that can 緩和する 苦痛 and 改善する 質 of life.

Around two million people in the UK を煩う the 条件, which is 原因(となる)d by 減ずるd 血 flow to the heart muscles.

The 大多数 of 患者s get 薬/医学s to 戦闘 the debilitating symptoms, and each year about 35,000 of the worst 影響する/感情d を受ける 外科 to get a stent ? a small mesh tube that 持つ/拘留するs the artery open to 許す more 血 to flow into the heart. But 熟考する/考慮するs show that, for as many as four in ten 患者s, this op is 効果のない/無能な.

Now 研究員s have created an 代案/選択肢 手続き which ? counterintuitively ? 伴う/関わるs 封鎖するing a small vein in the heart. Called a coronary sinus reducer, the 1in implant slows 負かす/撃墜する the flow of 血.

This 増加するs the 量 of oxygen that the muscles of the heart can 吸収する ? 減ずるing angina symptoms.

The heart 要求するs a constant 供給(する) of oxygen 吸収するd through the 血. When this is 減ずるd, the 組織/臓器 becomes 奪うd of oxygen, 誘発する/引き起こすing angina. The 苦痛 usually comes on in 簡潔な/要約する episodes, often 原因(となる)d by 演習 or 強調する/ストレス.

It is a serious 条件, and 苦しんでいる人s are more at 危険 of a heart attack or 一打/打撃 as the 血 大型船s are 狭くするd.

People who are overweight, smoke or drink 過度の 量s of alcohol are more likely to develop angina.

It is usually 扱う/治療するd with 麻薬s such as calcium channel blockers or beta blockers, though the 有効性 can be 限られた/立憲的な. Many 苦しんでいる人s will 結局 develop 安定性のない angina, where the episodes become more たびたび(訪れる) and happen at 無作為の.

More than 150,000 people are hospitalised in the UK every year with the 安定性のない 条件.

In the new 熟考する/考慮する, which 伴う/関わるd 51 患者s with 厳しい angina who had not 答える/応じるd to 従来の 治療s, half were given a coronary sinus reducer.

The mesh hourglass-形態/調整d 装置 is fitted into the coronary sinus vein ? which is where 血 蓄積するs after it has been pumped around the heart.

It is designed to make the vein smaller, 減ずるing the 量 of 血 which can pass through it. This 圧力 押し進めるs 血 支援する up into the heart, giving the muscles more time to take in oxygen.

The 関係者s were asked to 完全にする a daily 調査する where they 報告(する)/憶測d how often they experienced an angina episode ? and those who received the coronary sinus reducer experienced 40 per cent より小数の attacks.

'We were やめる shocked by how 井戸/弁護士席 the 装置 worked,' says Dr Rasha Al-Lamee, a 顧問 cardiologist at 皇室の College Healthcare NHS 信用.

'After ten weeks, 患者s noticed a 重要な difference and it really 改善するd their 質 of life. These are people who 苦しむ up to ten angina episodes a day, so this is a big 取引,協定 for them.I 推定する/予想する that our findings mean that 患者s who have failed to 答える/応じる to other 選択s will be able to receive the 装置 on the NHS soon.'

NHS vindicated over heart pump rollout

There was also good news for 患者s left 厳しく unwell に引き続いて a heart attack, after a 熟考する/考慮する 設立する that a 議論の的になる heart pump already 申し込む/申し出d on the NHS saves lives.

The 装置 is a thin tube fitted inside the 組織/臓器, and 含む/封じ込めるs a モーター which helps pumps 血 from one 味方する to the other.

It is designed to help 患者s who develop cardiogenic shock ? a deadly heart attack 複雑化 which occurs when the 組織/臓器 becomes too weak to pump enough 血 to 会合,会う needs.

The 条件 occurs in around one in ten heart attacks.

In 2016 the NHS made the 決定/判定勝ち(する) to 認可する the rollout of the £15,000 Impella ? which is surgically implanted after a heart attack ? before 熟考する/考慮するs showed it was 効果的な. Since then, it has been linked to 49 deaths in the US and, last month, the country's Food and 麻薬 行政 警告するd there was a 危険 it could 穴をあける the 塀で囲む of the heart.

But a new 熟考する/考慮する, 現在のd in Atlanta last week, 設立する that Impella 患者s were 13 per cent いっそう少なく likely to die within six months of a heart attack compared with those who did not を受ける the 手続き.

However, Danish 研究員s say the 裁判,公判, which 伴う/関わるd 360 関係者s from the UK, Denmark and Germany, did find that Impella 患者s were more lik ely to experience 複雑化s such as 内部の bleeding.

非,不,無 of the 裁判,公判 関係者 experienced a heart 穴をあける.

'This is the first time in a very long time that we have a 肯定的な 熟考する/考慮する for managing cardiogenic shock,' says Professor Jacob Moller, cardiologist at the Odense University Hospital in Denmark and 熟考する/考慮する author.

'I think this will be a 決まりきった仕事 装置 that will be used in these 猛烈に ill 患者s.'

Questions over beta blockers?

A 目印 熟考する/考慮する has raised serious 疑問s about the use of beta blockers to 取り組む a number of ありふれた heart 条件s.

Last week the Mail was first to 報告(する)/憶測 findings that the ありふれた 治療 does not 利益 half of 患者s 回復するing from a heart attack.

The tablets slow the pulse and lower 血 圧力, and have been 申し込む/申し出d to the 大多数 of 患者s 回復するing from a heart attack since the 1960s. However, 味方する 影響s 含む 疲労,(軍の)雑役, nausea and erectile dysfunction. And for about 50 per cent of 患者s, taking beta blockers does not 減ずる the 危険 of another attack, によれば the data.

Now 専門家s argue that doctors should 再考する 定める/命ずるing beta blockers to 患者s with other heart problems they are 一般的に 申し込む/申し出d for, such as angina chest 苦痛 and atrial fibrillation ? a problem with the heart's rhythm.

In 最近の years, a number of new and more 効果的な 麻薬s, 含むd 薬/医学s called calcium channel blockers, which also lower 血 圧力, have been rolled out on the NHS.

患者s who have not had a heart attack and take beta blockers as a way to 支配(する)/統制する high 血 圧力 alone should keep taking them.

However Professor Tim Chico, 顧問 cardiologist at the University of Sheffield, said: 'When doctors first began 申し込む/申し出ing these 麻薬s, they were one of the only things 利用できる for heart 患者s. However, there has been enormous 進歩.'

専門家s say 患者s should talk to their doctor if they do not wish to keep taking beta blockers.
