What's making me bruise so easily from the slightest knock? ASK DR MARTIN SCURR

Q: For the past ten years or so, I’ve 苦しむd たびたび(訪れる) bruising to my 武器 ― often from the slightest knock. I’m 74; is this something that can be cured, or will I 簡単に have to live with it??

Stephen Young, by email.

Dr ツバメ Scurr replies: A bruise occurs when 血 漏れるs from tiny 血 大型船s called capillaries, and collects under the 肌.

When there has been no ?obvious 傷害 or when the extent of bruising is out of ?割合 to the 外傷/ショック, we use the 称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 ‘平易な bruising’.

Age is a major factor because, as we get older, the 層 of fat beneath the 肌 that 行為/法令/行動するs as a cushion against knocks and blows starts to thin, leaving the 血 大型船s いっそう少なく 保護するd and more easily 負傷させるd.

Age is a major factor in 'easy bruising' because, as we get older, the layer of fat beneath the skin that acts as a cushion against knocks and blows starts to thin

This 肉親,親類d of ‘平易な bruising’ shows up more on the 武器 and 脚s 簡単に because they are the most exposed parts and most likely to be knocked, even below your level of 認識/意識性.

The 長,率いる, 直面する and trunk aren’t so exposed to knocks from day to day ― so any spontaneous bruising in these areas would be more of a 関心.

Some 医薬s, 含むing aspirin, ibuprofen and anti?coagulants such as warfarin can 干渉する with 血-clotting 機械装置s and make bruises after minor 衝撃 more likely.

Other 医薬 like corticosteroids (such as ?prednisolone) 原因(となる) thinning and 増加するd fragility of the 肌 which can 増加する the 危険 of 普及した bruising, again most 一般的に 影響する/感情ing the 四肢s.

Some natural 治療(薬)s, for example ginkgo biloba and ?ginseng, are thought to be linked to 平易な bruising, and while there’s not a 抱擁する 量 of 研究 of this, it may be a 可能性のある 危険 factor for you to consider.

Your best 戦略 is probably 保護 ― this means ?wearing long sleeves as you go about your daily activities.

Q: I woke up one morning about six months ago with a 苦痛 in my hip which has never gone away. An X-ray showed this to be bursitis. I do the 演習s I was given ― but the 苦痛 is getting worse.

On a visit to my GP I was told a steroid jab may help, but no one at the practice could give me this. The 苦痛 wakes me up at night.

Heddy Bell, Fife.

Dr ツバメ Scurr replies: I am sorry to hear about your 苦痛, and my feeling is that you should 捜し出す a ?referral for the steroid 注射 your practice について言及するd.

Hip bursitis is where the fluid-filled sac (‘bursa’) that cushions the hip 共同の becomes inflamed and swollen, 原因(となる)ing 苦痛 ― this 影響する/感情s the 目だつ point you can feel if you slide your 手渡す 負かす/撃墜する the outside of your upper 脚 from the pelvis.

Lying on the 影響する/感情d 味方する can be painful, as can 負わせる-?耐えるing activities, and sitting for long periods with 脚s crossed.

Hip bursitis can be 原因(となる)d by overuse (for instance, when overweight individuals (問題を)取り上げる 演習) and 外傷/ショック (I’ve often seen this 条件 in 患者s に引き続いて a 落ちる). But いつかs there is no obvious 誘発する/引き起こす.

When it first occurs, using an ice pack for 20 minutes, two or three times daily, along with a painkiller such as ibuprofen can 供給する 救済 (though this ?医薬 should not be taken long-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 ― a 最大限 of one to two weeks).

It’s also important to 避ける activities that より悪くする the 苦痛 such as sleeping on that 味方する.

The good news is that the problem can usually be ‘cured’ with a steroid 注射, a potent anti-inflammatory 配達するd 権利 at the 位置/汚点/見つけ出す ― but only a radiologist can 成し遂げる this, using ultrasound to 位置を示す the bursa 正確に.

As the 苦痛 is interrupting your sleep, I 示唆する the time has now come for a referral.

?In my 見解(をとる)... we need to watch our 医療の 監視者s

In the wake of the Cass Review on gender 身元 services for children, the question that 関心s me is why didn’t the regulators identify the ?problems that resulted in this review at an earlier 行う/開催する/段階?

After all, 規則 in ?healthcare did a 事実上の hyper leap に引き続いて the murderous activities of Harold Shipman.

With the Care 質 ?(売買)手数料,委託(する)/委員会/権限 finally 現れるing after a 長引いた birth, I 恐れる the regulator was too busy with its major evolutionary changes and learning on the 職業, just as the referrals to gender ?身元 services rose.

Their 注目する,もくろむ was not on the ball. In my experience they seemed 極端に 関心d about what type of soap was in the wash 水盤/入り江 in the 協議するing room and where the とじ込み/提出するs on staff 売春婦 liday 使用/適用s were 蓄える/店d. 査察s were ?irrelevant ーに関して/ーの点でs of the ?保護 and 井戸/弁護士席-存在 of 患者s.

And let’s not forget that the General 医療の 会議, another regulatory 団体/死体, failed to realise the ?関わりあい/含蓄s of Dr Harold ?Shipman’s 麻薬s 中毒 (he was 逮捕(する)d in the late 1970s when mainlining ?pethidine, a morphine type 麻薬). にもかかわらず the ?関与 of the police, a 法廷,裁判所 事例/患者, a ?宣告,判決 and some 極小の rehabilitation, he was never followed その上の by the regulator.

If he had been, around 200 殺人s could have been 妨げるd.

Who checks on the regulators?
