WHAT ARE SINKHOLES??

A sinkhole is a 穴を開ける in the ground created by 腐食 and the drainage of water.

They can 範囲 in size from a few feet in 直径 to the size 有能な of swallowing entire buildings.

They are a natural 現象 but the 過程 is often amplified by human 過程s and 干渉,妨害.

There are two basic types of sinkhole which are separated by how they form.

Slow developing ones are known as a cover-subsidence sinkhole and those that appear suddenly are called a cover-崩壊(する) sinkhole.

The sudden 穴を開けるs which 掴む headlines are the latter and can 原因(となる) 荒廃 and even death.

Often, it 伴う/関わるs soluble 激しく揺する, such as 石灰岩, becoming moist and eroding 速く.

This then leads to a swift loss of land and a sinkhole 現れるs.
