From fantastic family-run B&Bs to brilliant boutique hotels and perfect pubs with rooms... here are the gems that make Britain sparkle

Step 支援する in time, a century or so ago, and this green and pleasant land of ours was blessed with inns and hostelries to welcome 疲れた／うんざりした travellers. But 50 years ago the 国内の market paled and could not compete with the 誘惑する of a foreign tan and exotic sights. Now, though, home-grown 歓待 has come 支援する into its glorious own.

London may be the coolest city on the 惑星 but show me a village that doesn’t 誇る a chic gastropub with rooms, or a market town with a boutique hotel at its 中心. The real gems are 即時に recognisable, most likely family-run, with charming hosts. And you sense every 詳細（に述べる） is considered, whether it’s immaculate (expensive) bed linen, fresh posies artfully placed or a jar of handmade cookies in the room.

One such gem is the boutique hotel Tudor Farmhouse, on the high street of Clearwell in Gloucestershire’s Forest of Dean, into which owners Colin Fell and wife Hari have 注ぐd heart and soul (加える buckets of money). There are plenty of others ? and while these 甘い 週末 breaks are hardly 取引s, they are tremendous value for money and we should celebrate the best of 広大な／多数の／重要な British 歓待.

The Old Coastguard

But this uber-friendly, family-run hotel doesn’t need a sob story to 誘惑する 支援する its many loyal guests. Stoulgrove Country House

告訴する Antrum is a natural hostess and welcomes guests with tea and a warmed Welsh cake to her Monmouthshire bed and breakfast. Luxurious without 存在 grand, Stoulgrove is an impressive remodelled Georgian 所有物／資産／財産 tucked away beyond electric gates in Woodcroft village, 近づく Chepstow. Dining is at the heart of Ynyshir ? but don’t be fooled by the 伝統的な 外見 of this Victorian manor house, hidden away in Powys in 田舎の north むちの跡s. 長，率いる chef and owner Gareth 区 is all about 発明, bringing a Japanese 新たな展開 and cutting-辛勝する／優位 approach to his cuisine, which 含むs a staggering 20-course menu. With vinyl 記録，記録的な／記録するs playing, there is a 限定された 激しく揺する ’n’ roll vibe in the dining room, but the bucolic 場所 hasn’t been forgotten. 始める，決める in 11 glorious ac res, the rooms ? some of which are in the grounds まっただ中に 非常に高い eucalyptus trees ? 逮捕（する） the essence of the setting with 床に打ち倒す-to-天井 windows, 支持を得ようと努めるd-燃やすing stoves and 予定する features. Hotelier Debbie Cook is the proud owner of The Cookie Jar, a welcoming, 11-room boutique hotel in a former convent nestled between Alnwick 城 and the Northumberland market town’s Bailiffgate Museum.?

Tudor Farmhouse in Gloucestershire is an award-winning 20-room boutique hotel that draws a repeat （人が）群がる?

On the remote road to Knockinaam 宿泊する in Dumfries and Galloway, you wonder who would open a hotel in such a place. But where the 本土／大陸 stops 突然の at the Irish Sea, a wonderfully time-warped country house suddenly appears. It looks on to a 私的な shingle beach and secluded cove for steel-yourself 下落するs and sunset strolls.

The 見解（をとる）s from the two-acre garden at the Griffin Inn in Fletching, East Sussex, are みごたえのある. Owned by the Pullan family for more than 40 years, there are 13 elegant bedrooms housed in the pub and two 隣接するing buildings, all in pretty, pastel hues, some with four-posters. The Highlands doesn’t usually 動かす up images of blockbuster ocean 見解（をとる）s and imagination-haunting beaches. But Ullapool’s The Ceilidh Place has all that and more on its doorstep.

The family-run hotel, with sparkling 見解（をとる）s across Loch Broom and the heather-strewn hills of Ross and Cromarty, has an art-filled lounge and a community-run bookshop. Rustic and retro rooms all come with 手渡す-選ぶd libraries with no TVs to distract you.

Foodies will be in their element too. The restaurant makes the best of the fishing (n)艦隊／(a)素早い 錨，総合司会者d out 前線, with a menu crammed with langoustines, mussels and crab. Chapel House

A smart, red-brick Georgian building in a 命令（する）ing position in Penzance ? mere steps from the seafront ? Chapel House has palm trees, ‘Cornish exotics’ in the garden and a lovely sea-直面するing terrace. Inside, the six-bedroom hotel blends style with elegant 簡単. Large, airy rooms take 十分な advantage of the 素晴らしい light the area is famous for, while the trad-会合，会うs-中央の-century furniture is utterly chic. Sumptuous guest rooms have sea 見解（をとる）s, oak beds, 広大な baths and/or waterfall にわか雨s.

Across the 中庭, two Scandi-esque ‘最高の-控訴s’ have kitchenettes and 明言する／公表する-of-the-art wetrooms. Dunstane Houses

Sheer indulgence: Dunstane Houses, 位置を示すd outside Edinburgh city centre, has 15 rooms?with walk-in にわか雨s and 巡査 baths

Here, morning porridge comes laden with heather honey and cream, or served the 伝統的な Scottish way, with water and salt. This Victorian mansion outside Edinburgh city centre is a five-星／主役にする showcase for Scottishness. There are 70 different malt whiskies behind the 支持を得ようと努めるd-panelled 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業 同様に as Scottish gins and （手先の）技術 beers.

The food is resolutely Scottish too, with haggis bon bons, 貝類と甲殻類 and cheese, but it’s served in a relaxed, all-day setting. Sofas may be covered in Orkney tweed but there’s nothing stuffy about this hotel; it’s a passion 事業／計画（する）, pure, simple and fun.

Orkney-born owners Shirley and Derek Mowat have even managed to source whisky-scented toiletries. In the 15 brilliantly comfortable rooms, from （テニスなどの）ダブルス to 広大な 控訴s, tartan has its place but so does sheer indulgence, with walk-in にわか雨s and 巡査 baths. All beds have Vispring mattresses on the basis that if they’re good enough for the Queen, they’re good enough for the Dunstane’s guests.

In 2018, the Mowats bought the 平等に grand house opposite, so now there are 35 rooms. Two weeks before the lockdown, Dunstane won the Best Hotel Experience in VisitScotland’s Thistle awards.

Lakeside Hotel

On the most beautiful and serene corner of Windermere, the Lakeside would be a 勝利者 from its setting alone. Once a 19th Century coaching inn with a wraparound 温室, wide grass lawns lead straight to the water.

It doesn’t sell itself cheap, nor is it extortionate. Always 個人として owned, the Lakeside is comfortable with tradition bu t it has moved with the times by 会社にする／組み込むing a spa and indoor swimming pool. There are bike racks and a 列／漕ぐ／騒動ing boat for guests; paddle boarders and wild swimmers have also joined the Lakeside 正規の／正選手s in 最近の years. Staff are just as loyal ? many have notched up more than 30 years’ service.

Above all, it’s a welcoming place for couples and multi-generational families, 同様に as 地元のs who use the hotel’s moorings to pop over by boat for Sunday lunch. The main restaurant is one of the area’s best, with tasting menus and chateaubriand, but there’s also another more casual restaurant and in summer, （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs 流出／こぼす out on to the lawn, 特に for afternoon tea.

The Lakeside & Haverthwaite steam 鉄道 is just outside the hotel, as is the pier for the Bowness steam フェリー（で運ぶ）.

Of the 75 rooms and 控訴s, ground-床に打ち倒す rooms have their own terraces with （米）棚上げする／（英）提議するs and 議長，司会を務めるs; there are family 控訴s too. Some rooms have been adapted for people with mobility impairment and like everything at the Lakeside, it’s been subtly done to look effortless.
