Revitalised corner of Scotland that 証明するs banking 中心s CAN save the High Street

  • Banking 中心 is breathing new life into Cambuslang's High Street?
  • Without relentless (選挙などの)運動をするing it would never have got off ground?
  • 中心, 始める,決める up three years ago in former butcher's shop, was one of two '操縦するs'?

Step off the train at Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire and you're 迎える/歓迎するd by a multi-coloured mural welcoming you to the town.

It's bold and brash, alluding to the area's coal 採掘 history, its monuments and glorious parks.

Cambuslang was once a 栄えるing town, renowned for its steel making and the steel plates integral to ship building at Glasgow's shipyards. The community, just 15-minutes by train out of Glasgow (Glaschu), is a 影をつくる/尾行する of its former self, but Cambuslangers don't do self pity.

Not even the 最近の news that the town's library is の近くにing (会議 削減(する)s) has deterred them. They are 決定するd to fight 支援する, to 証明する, against the 半端物s, the Cambuslangs of this world can 生き残る and 栄える.

Driven 今後 by a 熱烈な 地元の community 会議 (all volunteers), the town has been spruced up with 大軍 of planters 始める,決める to burst into f lower. Its pavements have also been 直す/買収する,八百長をするd so that they can be 安全に walked on. Little 改良s, but important ones.

And in の中で the pubs, betting shops and 急速な/放蕩な food 出口s, a banking 中心 is breathing new life into the town's high street. Without the relentless (選挙などの)運動をするing of the community 会議, it would never have got off the ground.

'It has been mighty hard work,' 収容する/認めるs the 会議's 議長,司会を務める John Bachtler who with his 中尉/大尉/警部補 示す Lauterberg made the 中心 happen. '非,不,無 of the banks 手配中の,お尋ね者 to support Cambuslang, but the success of the 中心 証明するs that high street banking services are an 必須の piece of the community's jigsaw.'

The 中心, 始める,決める up just over three years ago in a former butcher's shop, was one of two '操縦するs' (the other was in Rochford, Essex). Today, 47 中心s criss-cross the country while a その上の 75 have been 認可するd.

One-stop community banks 容易にする basic banking needs for 商売/仕事s and personal 顧客s from all banks. You can deposit cash and cheques, 身を引く cash and 支払う/賃金 法案s. Community 銀行業者s from the 主要な banks are also on 場所/位置 on selected days to help with more コンビナート/複合体 needs.

基金d by the banks and operated by the 地位,任命する Office, the 中心s can only be opened in communities where all banks (同様に as building society 全国的な) have shut their 支店s.

Even then, 中心s can only be 認可するd if it is みなすd that there will be 十分な 需要・要求する for services. In Cambuslang's 事例/患者, it lost its last bank, TSB, five years ago.

Sceptics believe that the banking 巨大(な)s see 中心s as a short-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 手段, designed to を回避する 批評 of the immolation of 支店 網状組織s. As 需要・要求する for high street banking 拒絶する/低下するs, the 中心s (most on short-称する,呼ぶ/期間/用語 賃貸し(する)s) will then be shut, leaving 消費者s with no choice but to go 数字表示式の.

Yet Cambuslang is 証明するing that 中心s are not mere stop-gaps, but a 決定的な cog that enables communities to 機能(する)/行事 better.

Since it was opened, usage has grown with 現在の daily 処理/取引s 普通の/平均(する)ing 120, compared to an 普通の/平均(する) of 97 since 開始する,打ち上げる. In total, more than 70,000 反対する 処理/取引s with a 連合させるd cash value of £21 million have been 過程d through the 中心.?

裁判官ing by the number of people who used the 中心 when I visited on a 雨の Friday, it is popular. A 安定した trickle of people, of all age groups, (機の)カム in to deposit cheques or 身を引く cash and a number of retailers visited to get cash out ahead of a 週末 of 貿易(する)ing.

Freelance musician Jennifer Stephenson (機の)カム in to bank some cash. The 40-year-old, an 遂行するd clarinet player, says the 中心 ticks so many boxes. It's good for our community,' she says. 'It encourages people to spend here rather than in Glasgow or Rutherglen. It's also good for the 年輩の who prefer 直面する to 直面する banking.'

Jennifer Taylor, a 39-year-old 最初の/主要な school teacher, is also a fan. She banks with Santander which has a 支店 in Rutherglen, but the Cambuslang 中心 is more convenient for her banking. She says. 'It's fantastic to have a banking service on the doorstep.'

ジーンズ Austin, 65-year-old owner of 地元の card and gift shop Pandora's Box, uses the 中心 to get cash and bank takings. She 追加するs: 'My 顧客s prefer to 支払う/賃金 by cash. The 中心 is good for them, my 商売/仕事 and for the community.' Liz Maclean, 57-year-old 経営者/支配人 of 地元の pub Finlays, agrees. She uses the 中心 to bank takings three times a week.

'My 地元の bank 支店 was turned into a Costa Coffee. I live here and love it, but it has its challenges. 失業 is a problem. Parking is an 問題/発行する and the high street has too many bookies and 急速な/放蕩な food shops. The 中心 is one of the best things to open here for years.'

中心s only 供給する basic high street banking services. But with a little imagination (and give) from the banks, they could be 改善するd. A 少数,小数派 open on a Saturday when 需要・要求する for services might be higher. Hopefully, this will change in the 未来.

支配するs 治める/統治するing where a 中心 can be opened mean that in some communities where 全国的な remains, small 商売/仕事s are disadvantaged as the building society doesn't 申し込む/申し出 商売/仕事 banking.

Towns chosen for 中心s are decided by cash machine 網状組織 Link, によれば strict 基準. Gareth Oakley, 長,指導者 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある of Cash 接近 UK, the organisation 基金d by the banks and 責任がある putting the 中心s in place, says: 'Cambuslang shows how much people value 直面する-to-直面する banking ? and it shows the life a 中心 can bring to the community.'

As for 議員s John Bachtler and 示す Lauterberg, their 追求(する),探索(する) for Cambuslang goes on. They want the 中心 to embrace the credit union, a 負債 counselling service and a library. 示す says: 'We won't 嘘(をつく) 負かす/撃墜する until Cambuslang has the services in place to 栄える again.'

I would n't bet against this 決定するd pair 後継するing.
