不公平な?: (頭が)ひょいと動く Diamond, pictured here leaving the 財務省 Select 委員会 in 2012, feels bitter about the 代表 of his lifestyle

(頭が)ひょいと動く Diamond is probably 権利 to feel aggrieved that of all Britain’s shamed 銀行業者s he was the only one to be 本人自身で told to pack his 捕らえる、獲得するs by Sir Mervyn King.

After all, the Bank of England, にもかかわらず having a 役割 in 財政上の 安定, stood on the sidelines while Fred Goodwin ran amok at 王室の Bank of Scotland and the HBOS Three ? Lord Stevenson, James Crosby and Andy Hornby ? brought HBOS c 無分別なing 負かす/撃墜する.

In fact there will be 投資家s who believe that Diamond, who created Barclays 資本/首都 from the ashes of BZW, and kept Barclays afloat without direct 明言する/公表する 援助(する) during the worst of the 財政上の 危機, was 価値(がある) every 続けざまに猛撃する of the £100million or so of income he 抽出するd from the bank while 近づく or at the 舵輪/支配.

Unfortunately, however, it was the rewards 利用できる on Diamond’s watch that created a get-rich-quick culture that the 現在の board, under the more sober Antony Jenkins, is trying to water 負かす/撃墜する.

類似して, it is hard to believe that Diamond was unaware that it was possible to manipulate the Libor market, given his now famous conversation with 副 Bank of England 知事 Paul Tucker, who 示すd that he was いっそう少なく than happy with the high 率s in the Libor market.

The conversation would never have taken place had there not been an 認識/意識性 that the 率s could be massaged, if not rigged, for 利益(をあげる)s.

It is also わずかに manipulative for Diamond to argue that his lifestyle is modest, given he 運動s an 11-year-old Jeep in Nantucket. The former Barclays boss may not have had fancy ヨットs or held glamorous parties in Crete but he did like to indulge his 利益/興味s, from 首相の職 football to the New England 愛国者s, and has had no 不足 of handsome 住居s.

?

It is not surprising that Diamond feels bitter about the manner of his 解雇/(訴訟の)却下.

But he cannot pretend he wasn’t a ‘master of the universe’.

Lifestyle choice

It is hard to imagine Peter Voser, the low-重要な スイスの 長,指導者 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある of 爆撃する, moving from the boardroom to a hippy commune or a Hawaiian surfing beach.

But the suggestion that he is cutting his career at the 最高の,を越す short for a ‘change of lifestyle’ raises all sorts of exotic 可能性s.

His handsome bundle of 株 選択s and a generous 年金 マリファナ of £12.5million mean that he will never be short of cash for whatever he chooses to do.

In comparison with what has gone on at 競争相手 BP, Voser’s time at the 最高の,を越す of 爆撃する must be regarded as 比較して uneventful. He also managed to 避ける some of the pratfalls of 爆撃する’s last British boss, Philip ワットs, who left under the 影をつくる/尾行する of the 2004 reserves accounting スキャンダル.

In his period as 長,指導者 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある, Voser rightly has 強調するd safety and has let it be known that he does not think that a Deepwater Horizon 災害 would have happened in the same way at 爆撃する.

Voser also 監視するd BP’s problems closely in 事例/患者 there might be a chance of an opportunistic 合併.

But he recognised going 敵意を持った was never going to be a r ealistic 可能性 and the 爆撃する board may have been put off by the open-ended 合法的な 義務/負債s that continue to dog its British competitor.

This is not to say 爆撃する has been without its own problems.

The group’s 広大な 投資 in 北極の 演習ing ? it has sunk $5billion into the 投機・賭ける and has yet to 抽出する one バーレル/樽 of oil ? 攻撃する,衝突する a sticky patch off the coast of Alaska last January when its 装備する, the Kulluk, was beached in 嵐の seas まっただ中に 恐れるs of a 漏れる.

どこかよそで, its 操作/手術s in Nigeria, where it is the main 操作者, remain fraught with problems 含むing kidnappings, oil 窃盗, terror groups and 汚染. In comparison with other big oil groups, 含むing BP, it has been いっそう少なく successful in making new finds and reserving them.

His 後継者 will 直面する some big challenges. 伝統的に, 爆撃する with its strong 内部の 管理/経営 culture, 任命するs from inside. In 財政/金融 officer Simon Henry, if it believes it is time for a Brit after two 大陸のs, it has a 強健な 候補者.

The 誘惑 to look outside will be strong, with Centrica 長,指導者 (n)役員/(a)執行力のある Sam Laidlaw の中で the bookies’ favourites.

Fallen 星/主役にする

The dangers of high-tech 投資するing have been はっきりと exposed by the 利益(をあげる) 警告 from Imagination 科学(工学)技術s (which I 持つ/拘留する).

The 予期しない 不足(高) of licensing 歳入s saw the 株 急落(する),激減(する) 25.7 per cent and the price has more than halved over the past year.

It is to be hoped that two of its biggest 投資家s, Intel and Apple, do not see this as an 適切な時期 to scoop up the company and take it to California.
