As shocking as the photos are the stories behind them. One image shows a mother 押し進めるing a pram across がれき at the 入り口 to her Gorbals tenement.
Only a few days earlier she and her family had been woken by a 難破させるing ball 破壊するing the tenement 封鎖する. Her husband had to leap out of bed and 叫び声をあげる for the demolition to stop.
The 条件s were so bad the demolition men did not think people could still be living there and did not think to check.
Another photograph shows a family living in one room in Glasgow’s Maryhill.
They slept with the lights on to 脅す off ネズミs and on one night alone counted 16 of the vermin in the small, damp room.

The photographer, now in his seventies, spent three years visiting some of Scotland’s poorest areas as part of a 事業／計画（する） （売買）手数料，委託（する）／委員会／権限d by 住宅 charity 避難所.
Mr Hedges said: ‘I was a young man when I took these photos. They 形態／調整d my understanding of 文書の photography ? how images can serve a 目的.
‘In the years which followed, I became committed to photographing the everyday life of people. I never 追求するd anything more exotic.

‘There is no 選び出す／独身 picture I am most proud of in the collection. The people’s words, the stories I heard while I photographed them are just as important. Together they mean more than any 選び出す／独身 image can.’
He 追加するd: ‘I 港／避難所’t forgotten any of the 指名するs of people I photographed or the conversations we had 40 years ago. They are as （疑いを）晴らす in my mind today as if they happened yesterday.’
