'Good afternoon. Can I thank you all for coming. Last week, I stood here to 発表する the ending of the co-操作/手術 協定 between the SNP and the Greens - the Bute House 協定 - and that the SNP would 捜し出す to 治める/統治する as a 少数,小数派 政府.
'I made the 決定/判定勝ち(する) as leader of the SNP as I believed ending the Bute House 協定 was the 権利 one for the party I lead, and I still do believe that to be the 事例/患者. But most importantly, I believe it was the 権利 決定/判定勝ち(する) for the country.
'My hope was to continue working with the Greens in a いっそう少なく formal 協定 as the SNP move into a new 段階 of 少数,小数派 政府.
'Unfortunately, in ending the Bute House 協定 in the manner that I did, I 明確に underestimated the level of 傷つける and upset that I 原因(となる)d Green 同僚s.
'For a 少数,小数派 政府 to be able to 治める/統治する 効果的に, 信用 when working with the 対立 is 明確に 根底となる.
'And while a 大勝する through this week's 動議 of no 信用/信任 was 絶対 possible, I am not willing to 貿易(する) my values and 原則s or do 取引,協定s with whomever 簡単に for 保持するing 力/強力にする.
'Therefore, after spending the 週末 反映するing on what is best for my party, for the 政府 and for the country I lead, I have 結論するd that 修理ing our 関係 across the political divide can only be done with someone else at
the 舵輪/支配.
'I have therefore 知らせるd the SNP's 国家の 長官 of my 意向 to stand 負かす/撃墜する as party leader and ask that she 開始するs a leadership contest for my 交替/補充 as soon as possible.
'ーするために 確実にする a smooth and 整然とした 移行, it is my 意向 to continue as First 大臣 until my 後継者 has been elected, 特に as the 議会 will be 審議ing some incredibly important 法律制定 in the coming days and the coming weeks.
'I cannot tell you what an honour it is 存在 the First 大臣 of the country I love, the country I am raising my family in, and the only country I will ever call home.
'As a young boy born and raised in Scotland, I could never have dreamt that one day I would have the 特権 of 主要な my country.
'People who looked like
me were not in positions of political 影響(力), let alone 主要な 政府s when I was younger.
'We now live in a UK that has a British Hindu 首相, a イスラム教徒 市長 of London, a 黒人/ボイコット Welsh first 大臣 and for a little while longer, a Scottish Asian first 大臣 of this country.
'So for those who decry that multiculturism has failed across the UK, I would 示唆する that the 証拠 is やめる to the contrary and that is something that we should all celebrate.
'I have had the honour of serving in 政府 for almost 12 years in a variety of 役割s. Whatever position I held during my time in politics, I have always been guided by my values.
'As First 大臣, I am incredibly proud to have a fair 税金 system, the most 進歩/革新的な in the UK, where those who earn the most 与える/捧げる the most and it will always be my 核心 belief that in a country as rich as ours, wealth must be far more 平等に 分配するd.
'I have no 疑問 at all that whoever takes over from me will continue the Scottish 政府's 運動 to 減ずる child poverty.
'I am proud that through our 活動/戦闘s, an 概算の 100,000 children are 推定する/予想するd to be 解除するd out of poverty this year.
'I also hope that as a country, we can be really proud of the strides that we've made to 取り組む 不平等, prejudice and 差別. But, let's also 認める that far too often in our country, 憎悪 continues to 後部 its ugly 長,率いる.
<
p class="embedParagraph_1I1nW9oF">'In a world were every 問題/発行する seems to descend into a 有毒な culture war, it is often the most marginalised in our society who 耐える the brunt.
'As 政治家,政治屋s of all 政党s, we are afforded, we are 特権d, to have a 壇・綱領・公約.
'Each and every one of us must resist the 誘惑 of populism at the expense of 少数,小数派s, 特に in a 総選挙 year.
'I've often said that as a 少数,小数派 myself, my 権利s don't 存在する in a vacuum; they're only 保護するd because the 権利s of everyone are 保護するd.
'And from the backbenches of the Scottish 議会, I will continue to 支持する/優勝者 the 権利s and 発言する/表明するs of those who are not often heard, be that at home, or indeed overseas, such as those 苦しむing and (who) continue to 苦しむ the most horrific 人道的な 大災害 in Gaza as the world watches on.
'Let me say to my SNP family, I will always be with you, I will always (選挙などの)運動をする と一緒に you. We have had 後退s in our movement but we have 打ち勝つ them and we will do so again.
'Independence feels frustratingly の近くに, and believe me no one, no one, feels that 失望/欲求不満 more than the leader of the SNP.
'But the last few miles of the マラソン are always the hardest and we have run this race as a team, and now I 準備する to pass the baton to a 後継者 whom I am 絶対 確かな will lead us over the finish line.
'And I will tell you, today, what I will say to that 後継者, 'first 大臣s get to 会合,会う countless inspirational people in communities across Scotland working to make life better for those around them.
''First 大臣s get to see first-手渡す many exciting 商売/仕事s and 産業s that will 力/強力にする Scotland's 未来 and, whenever First 大臣s 始める,決める foot beyond Scotland's shores, no 事柄 where they go, in Europe or across the world, they 遭遇(する) friends and admirers of our nation'.
'If only every person in Scotland could be afforded the 適切な時期 of 存在 first 大臣 for just one day.
'On that very next day, it's my belief that they would 投票(する) for independence with both their 長,率いる and their heart.
'To my fellow MSPs of
all political 説得/派閥s, next week is a 決定的な milestone - we 示す 25 years of devolution.
'We have an 選挙(人)の system that is designed for no 政党 to have an 全体にわたる 大多数.
'Devolution's 設立するing fathers and mothers, rightly in their 知恵, believe that no one loses out by 政治家,政治屋s 株ing 知恵, 株ing counsel, 株ing ideas.
'But the converse is also true. That is why I would make an 控訴,上告 to 同僚s across the political spectrum that while 政府s, of course, must 行為/法令/行動する in good 約束, so must their 対立 and be 用意が出来ている to 共同製作する with us, not just …に反対する for 対立's sake.
'The only people who 苦しむ as a result of such an 行き詰まり are the very public we 捜し出す to serve.
'Politics and 政治家,政治屋s, not unreasonably I'm afraid, have often been maligned.
'However, I truly believe that when we get it 権利, and often we do, we are a 軍隊 for good that can transform peoples lives for the better.
'To my 同僚s in 対立, 関わりなく the 政党, I genuinely do wish you 井戸/弁護士席. I 耐える no ill-will and certainly 耐える no grudge against anyone.
'Politics can be a 残虐な 商売/仕事. It takes its (死傷者)数 on your physical and mental health, your family 苦しむ と一緒に you.
'I am in 絶対の 負債 to my wonderful wife, my beautiful children and my wider family for putting up with me over the years.
'I'm afraid you will be seeing a lot more of me from now, you are truly everything to me.
'Although, of course, as you can tell I am sad that my time as first 大臣 is ending, but I am so 感謝する, I'm so blessed, for having the 適切な時期 afforded to so few to lead my country, and who could ask for a better country to lead than Scotland? Thank you very much.'
