The 課すing ドームd halls of the Bank of England are hushed. After all, setting the nation's 利益/興味 率s and controlling インフレーション is a serious 商売/仕事.

Although the atmosphere is sober, I sense a 確かな excitement in the 空気/公表する as we wend our way その上の in, 負かす/撃墜する labyrinthine 回廊(地帯)s with (a)手の込んだ/(v)詳述する mosaic 床に打ち倒すs, and past mahogany doors that 具体的に表現する solidity and tradition.

I have been 認めるd an 排除的 招待 to the Bank's inner sanctum in Threadneedle Street in the City of London for the first glimpse of the new King Charles III bank 公式文書,認めるs and to hear the story behind their 創造.

In a month's time, on June 5, they will enter 循環/発行部数. It will be the culmination of an 驚くべき/特命の/臨時の design, 兵たん業務 and planning endeavour that began a 10年間 ago.

This is the 時代 of contactless 支払い(額)s, and our 合法的な tender is printed on polymer, not paper. But the 伝統的な bank 公式文書,認める is still a symbol of 連続 and of the resilience of our 通貨.

It is also the most 広範囲にわたって seen piece of public art that features the 君主. No wonder Marriott, 58, is proud of her work.

She joined the Bank as a junior artist in 1990, and has risen to become its first woman designer. Her previous 生産/産物s 含む the Turner £20 公式文書,認める, and her 職業, she says, is 'one of the best in the world'.

King Charles image took four months to create?

The Bank has been 問題/発行するing bank 公式文書,認めるs since the late 1600s. But King Charles will be only the second 君主 to appear on them.?

The first 公式文書,認める to use the portrait of a 君主 was the £1 公式文書,認める that appeared in 1960 featuring the portrait of the late Queen.?

Marriott begins the tale by showing me the photograph of the King wearing the blue velvet 式服s of the Order of the Garter on which the new bank 公式文書,認める image is based.

'Clarence House gave us the photograph of the King ten years ago,' she says. 'The p hoto was not taken by anyone special.

'But then,' she 追加するs 'the image of the late Queen on the 現在の bank 公式文書,認めるs was based on a 製図/抽選 of a photo taken of her in the 1980s.' In the photograph, the King looks serious and there are 明白な lines on his 直面する.

He does not 耐える a 栄冠を与える, which 代表するs a 転換 from the designs featuring his late mother wearing a diadem.

The image was selected because it could be 融通するd easily within the layout of the 現在の 'family' of 公式文書,認めるs.?

The picture chosen had to be one without any detrimental 影響 on 安全, 含むing the see-though windows on the left-手渡す 味方する of the 前線 of the 公式文書,認める that can help check authenticity.

The team at the Bank and De La Rue were also に引き続いて 明確な/細部 指示/教授/教育s from the Palace to minimise the cost of 問題/発行するing the new 公式文書,認めるs and their 環境の 衝撃. 存在するing 公式文書,認めるs will only be 取って代わるd when they start to be worn out.

It took four months for Matthews to turn the ph oto of the King into the portrait that appears on the 公式文書,認めるs.

It takes a good nine months for new 公式文書,認めるs to be 実験(する)d, 確実にするing the 安全 features worked, and that the 公式文書,認めるs did not 干渉する with the 操作/手術 of ATMs and other machines
Debbie Marriott?

'I 手渡す draw my images,' he says. 'In this 事例/患者 I began with the King's velvet 式服s, so that I had the time to learn about his 直面する, to get a really good understanding of his features.

'I work on bank 公式文書,認めるs of all nations with their 長,率いるs of 明言する/公表する, but in this 事例/患者, it was the 圧力 of it 存在 my 君主.'

He 手渡すs me a 二塁打-長,率いるd magnifying glass so that I can see the results of these 審議s.

The raised 'intaglio' image of the King on the 公式文書,認めるs was 手渡す-etched in a 一連の dots and lines that give form and depth, and can be felt when you run your fingers over this part of the 公式文書,認める.

The technique also makes 偽造のing much more difficult.

Matthews, who joined De La Rue as an 見習い工, uses centuries' old methods, 加える 21st Century graphic design ソフトウェア.

His two 見習い工s are 存在 taught Photoshopping, but they are also learning to 削減(する) images into steel, just as 見習い工s did when engraving was invented as an artform in Europe in the 1500s.

The image was only one building 封鎖する in the design 過程.

It is fascinating to 熟考する/考慮する the subtle touches 要求するd to introduce the King's image into the design.

The image of the facade of the Bank of England next to the 君主 has been 延長するd.

影をつくる/尾行するing on the left-手渡す 味方する of the King's 直面する was 必須の to delineate the portrait from the background.

問題/発行するs of practicality rather than beauty 嘘(をつく) behind the 延期する between the King's ascension to the 王位 and the arrival of the new 公式文書,認めるs.

Marriott says: 'The first bank 公式文書,認めるs were printed last year. But they did not すぐに come into 循環/発行部数 as it takes a good nine months for them to be 実験(する)d, 確実にするing the 安全 features worked, and that the 公式文書,認めるs did not 干渉する with the 操作/手術 of ATMs and other machines.

'Usually we 開始する,打ち上げる a 公式文書,認める of just one denomination, but this time we were 開始する,打ち上げるing four at once.'

Co-operating on this 実験(する)ing 演習 were the Bank's scientists and other 専門家s who seem to have 確実にするd that 偽造のing is a 罪,犯罪 on the 減少(する).

During the 早期に part of her career, Marriott saw a few halfway plausible 偽のs, but says they have become rare.

The 出資/貢献 of her design to the war on counterfeiters will be part of her 遺産/遺物. Having 完全にするd her work on the new King Charles 公式文書,認めるs, she has retired.

She will still be 製図/抽選 and 絵, but landscapes rather than portraits.

Contactless 支払い(額)s are convenient, but compared with the time-honoured artistry of 'real' money, they are soulless.

His Majesty will no 疑問 be delighted to learn that I, and the 残り/休憩(する) of his 支配するs, will be spending them with 楽しみ.

Cash is making a resurgence?

Cash is far from dead. Its use 拒絶する/低下するd はっきりと in the pandemic, but this 傾向 began to be 逆転するd in 2021.?

全国的な Building Society has 明らかにする/漏らすd that 撤退s from its ATMs rose by 4 per cent to 31.4 million in 2023.?

The 普通の/平均(する) 量 孤立した was £105, which is 28 per cent higher than in 2019, as more people use cash to 予算 against the cost-of-living 危機.

Card 支払い(額)s accounted for 85 per cent of spending in shops in 2023. But the British 小売 国際借款団/連合 says that the '政府 should 確実にする that cash 受託 is a viable 選択 for merchants and 顧客s across the whole ecosystem'.?
