The 悪口を言う／悪態 of 'Death Island': How Thai holiday 楽園 of Koh Tao became a nightmarish 中心 of 殺人, 怪しげな deaths and 強姦

Once a sunny Thai 楽園 island, Koh Tao quickly became a nightmarish 中心 of 殺人 and 強姦 after two Brit backpackers were bludgeoned to death almost a １０年間 ago.

Over the past 10 years, Koh Tao has taken a more 悪意のある 評判 の中で some foreigners, with at least 11 Western tourists having died or disappeared there under mysterious circumstances since 2014.

But beneath the palm tree 楽園 lies a grubby underbelly where 恐れるs over the safety of the island continue to rise.??

As recently as December last year, a 24-year-old German backpacker was 強姦d by a 小旅行する guide on a 砂漠d beach and 警告するd 'i t isn't 安全な for women to travel alone in that country'.

Hannah Witheridge and David Miller - September 2014

In what is considered the most high-profile 殺人 事例／患者 on Koh Tao, and in the 事例／患者 that gave the island its 悪名高い 愛称, two Brits?were 残酷に 殺人d while backpacking.

The 半分-naked 団体／死体s of David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, were discovered between 5am and 6am on Sairee Beach in Koh Tao on September 15, 2014.

Miller was a Jersey based civil engineer and 構造上の 工学 卒業生（する）, while Witheridge was a student from the University of Essex.?

'Can they be 安全な in bikinis... unless they are not beautiful?' said General Prayuth Chan-O-Cha in a テレビ放送するd speech.

Police later said Witheridge may not have been 強姦d as first 示唆するd に引き続いて an 検視 on her 団体／死体.

Police said the tourist 'had just 完全にするd a divemaster scuba course' before he died, but three days before he went 行方不明の he was told not to swim because it could lead to blindness, によれば a 報告（する）／憶測 by the Chiangrai Times.

But his family and friends were left unconvinced at the police's 結論 that he 溺死するd, as Suter was known for 存在 a strong swimmer and 正規の／正選手 snorkeler.

Nick Pearson - December 2014

The 25-year-old Nick Pearson, from Derby, was 設立する floating dead in the sea off Koh Tao after visiting the island on a family holiday, just two months after Witheridge and Miller were 設立する 殺人d.

His parents believe he may have been followed 支援する to his holiday bungalow and killed - and were 納得させるd that police in Thailand covered up the 殺人 to 保護する 観光旅行，事業.

Nick Parson, 25, from Derby was 設立する dead in the sea in 2014. His family are 納得させるd he was killed, にもかかわらず police （人命などを）奪う，主張するing he fell 50ft and 溺死するd

延期するs by the Thai 当局 in finding Christina's 団体／死体 and glaring gaps in the 調査 into her death left her parents with no choice but to take 事柄s into their own 手渡すs.?

'We would have liked to have been the last people to see her alive. But on talking to him, he seemed やめる straightforward.'

Dmitri Povse - January 2015

Frenchman Dmitri Povse, 29, was 設立する hanging from a 天井 at the balcony of his room?at Ta Chin Bungalow on Koh Tao at during the beginning of January.

Police 支配するd his death a 自殺 - にもかかわらず 存在 discovered with his 手渡すs loosely tied behind his 支援する.

His pals 恐らく returned to their hotels and left him drinking alone.

Valentina Novozhyonova - February 2015

Luke Miller - Ja nuary 2016

British tourist Luke Miller, from the 小島 of Wight, was 設立する dead in a swimming pool on Koh Tao in January 2016.

Thai police said a 地位，任命する-mortem examination showed he 溺死するd but?検死官 Caroline Sumeray said: 'It has been 示唆するd this was a cover-up by the Thai 当局 but there has been a very 徹底的な police 報告（する）／憶測.'

But Sumeray said the police 接触する could not be relied upon as there was no 確定／確認 a man they spoke to was a Thai police officer.?

She said the man later told the friends 経由で WhatsApp messages that police?no longer believed Miller had been 'fighting' or was 殺人d.?

In a 声明 read to the 法廷，裁判所, Miller's friend said he felt 'police were covering up as it was the death of another foreigner on Koh Tao'.?

The 審理，公聴会 was also told that a 証言，証人／目撃する had 述べるd a man banging 長，率いるs with another swimmer, but Sumeray 結論するd that there was no 証拠 to 証明する that this was Miller.

A 地位，任命する-mortem examination carried out in Thailand showed the tourist had a number of small bruises on his 直面する and 脚s and 結論するd he died as a result of 長，率いる 傷害s and 溺死するing.

Elise Dallemagne, April 2017

Grotsch's cousin told The Sun that the family could not 受託する the island's 当局 explanation for how he died.

'There is no explanation for Bernd's death. He was fit, healthy and happy,' she said.

'We are furious that we have not been able to have an 認可するd 独立した・無所属 法廷の examination.'

More recently, a British 運動ing 指導者 from Birmingham was 設立する dead on the island.

Neil Giblin, 48, was 設立する dead on January 18 last year, with the circumstances surrounding his death remaining a mystery.

His 団体／死体 was discovered by two 女性（の） （弁護士の）依頼人s in a rented bungalow after he failed to show up to a scheduled 運動ing lesson.

Florentina Retka, February 2023

German backpacker, Florentina Retka, 24, was 強姦d on the Thai island in February last year.

She had taken?a 単独の trip to the Southeast Asian country where she 調書をとる／予約するd a 小旅行する around the 熱帯の island of Koh Chang with 地元の guide Kasama Apichaisompon, 55.

'Just take care if you're 調書をとる／予約するing a 小旅行する or day trip, if you have to go alone with the guy, just don't go alone,' Florentina (pictured) 警告するd fellow travellers

But she began to feel uncomfortable when the 巡航する ship 労働者 took her to an 孤立するd beach where there were no other tourists around.

Retka said she was swimming in the sea when the Thai native grabbed her from behind before pulling aside her swimsuit and 侵入するing her in the water.

She 明らかにする／漏らすd in December, when speaking out on her ordeal, that she was frozen with 恐れる and? too afraid to 叫び声をあげる or fight 支援する 'in 事例／患者 he killed me'.

After the attack on February 15, the rapist dropped Florentina 支援する at her hotel 訴える手段／行楽地.?

Kasama turned himself in at the Koh Chang Police 駅／配置する on the same day and on November 30 was finally 宣告，判決d to two years and eight months in 刑務所，拘置所.

Florentina said: 'I was 孤立するd on a beach with nobody around. He 軍隊d himself on me and 強姦d me. How could I have fought 支援する? He could have killed me. He took something from me that day, my dignity, my 尊敬（する）・点.

'I feel 安全な now that he's finally behind 妨げる／法廷，弁護士業s.'

地元の guide Kasama Apichaisompon, 55, was 刑務所，拘置所d for two years and eight months に引き続いて the 強姦?

Speaking on the horrific attack, after bravely waiving her 権利 to anonymity, she said:?'We went to a waterfall and swam there, but I noticed he had part of his penis exposed and he was touching himself. I looked away and pretended I didn't see anything.

'I 選ぶd up all of my 着せる／賦与するs, then he said we would go to the "Long Beach". And I was thinking 'Okay, Long Beach, it's like a Long Beach and beautiful'.

'He took me there and there was no signal on my phone. There were no people, there were no restaurants, no hotels, nothing.

'And I went swimming and he （機の）カム from the 支援する and took me like this and he didn't let me 負かす／撃墜する, and I looked at him like 'what are you doing?

'I said "I don't want this". I said that one thousand times: "What are you doing? I don't want this".'

'And he didn't care about it, he just took my pants off and 押し進めるd me.
