DAN HODGES: When Tories are (刑事)被告 of 悪事を働くこと, they must 公然と 証明する their innocence. But not so for Keir's 副, who operates under Rayner's 法律

On January 25, 2022, 主要都市の Police Commissioner Cressida 刑事 発表するd to the London 議会’s Police and 罪,犯罪 委員会 that her officers had opened an 調査 into a number of events that had been held in 負かす/撃墜するing Street during lockdown.

Within minutes, 労働 副 Leader Angela Rayner took to Twitter. ‘Boris Johnson’s 負かす/撃墜するing Street i s under police 調査,’ she 激怒(する)d. ‘How on earth can he think he can stay on as 総理大臣? Millions of people are struggling to 支払う/賃金 the 法案s, but Boris Johnson and his 政府 are too wrapped up in スキャンダル to do anything about it. Disgraceful.’

On Friday, Greater Manchester Police 発表するd they were placing Angela Rayner under 調査 for 可能性のある offences arising from her residency, 所有権 and その後の sale of two 所有物/資産/財産s bought 分かれて by herself and her then husband from Stockport 会議.

The 明確な/細部 焦点(を合わせる) of the 調査(する) is 不明瞭な, but is believed to relate to possible 違反s of 選挙(人)の 法律 登録 and 税金 法律.

Angela Rayner's cheerleaders have rallied round her over the 'two homes' affair

Angela Rayner's cheerleaders have 決起大会/結集させるd 一連の会議、交渉/完成する her over the 'two homes' 事件/事情/状勢

Labour?s Deputy Leader, her boss Sir Keir Starmer , her colleagues and her supporters believe in a new concept ? Rayner?s Law

労働’s 副 Leader, her boss Sir Keir Starmer , her 同僚s and her 支持者s believe in a new 概念 ? Rayner’s 法律

It’s important to 強調する/ストレス that Rayner 否定するs any 悪事を働くこと, and has not been 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金d with any offence, let alone been 罪人/有罪を宣告するd. And like any 国民, she is する権利を与えるd to a presumption of innocence until 犯罪 is proven.

But before the police have 行為/行うd a 選び出す/独身 interview, one thing has already been proven beyond reasonable 疑問. 労働’s 副 Leader, her boss Sir Keir Starmer, her 同僚s and her 支持者s believe in a new 概念 ? Rayner’s 法律.

This self-serving edict 持つ/拘留するs that while they are 解放する/自由な to 需要・要求する the highest 基準s of honesty, transparency and probity from their political 対抗者s, those 基準s do not 適用する to themselves. 支配するs surrounding good governance and 行為/行う in public office are just something to be 施行するd upon the evil Tories and the little people. 労働’s heroic class-軍人s, 現在/一般に 嵐/襲撃するing to 力/強力にする on a wave of anti-保守的な 反感, have the 権利 to do whatever they damn 井戸/弁護士席 please.

Look no その上の than the Partygate スキャンダル. That presumption of innocence which is everybody’s 権利 is not one that Rayner 延長するd to Boris Johnson. The mere fact he was 存在 調査/捜査するd by the Met was enough to damn him in her 注目する,もくろむs.

‘But Boris was 罪人/有罪を宣告するd!’ her cheerleaders cry. Yes. Of one offence. Of eating a piece of cake. On all other 告発(する),告訴(する)/料金s, the then 総理大臣 was acquitted.

But that didn’t stop Rayner and Starmer 追求するing him over every 出来事/事件 ? big or small ? that occurred in No 10 during lockdown. Indeed, as a result of the Partygate 危機, Starmer decided to place 正直さ in high office at the heart of his political 事業/計画(する).

That is until questions started to be asked about his own 副. At which point, Rayner’s 法律 kicked in, and scrutiny of 上級の political 人物/姿/数字s became 容認できない. Those having the temerity to query Angela Rayner were ‘chasing a smear’, he (人命などを)奪う,主張するd.

A ‘smear’ which Sir Keir 推定では now believes is 存在 追求するd by Greater Manchester constabulary.

罰金. So for consistency was it a ‘smear’ when he and Rayner (刑事)被告 Johnson over the cheese and ワイン party (no police 活動/戦闘 was taken against the then PM)? Drinks in the No 10 garden (again, no police 活動/戦闘 taken)? Dominic Cummings’ leaving party (類似して, no police 活動/戦闘 against Johnson)? The No 10 Christmas 質問(する) (no police 活動/戦闘 taken against the PM)?

No. Because Rayner’s 法律 適用するs. It’s one 支配する for Starmer and his chums. And one 支配する for everyone else.

Anyone in any 疑問 about these 二塁打 基準s need only to have listened to 影をつくる/尾行する (ドイツなどの)首相/(大学の)学長 Rachel Reeves on 無線で通信する 4’s Today programme on Tuesday as she 発表するd 計画(する)s for a 厳重取締 on 税金-ペテン師. Was she sure Angela Rayner wasn’t one of them, she was asked. ‘Yes, I’m 絶対 確かな ,’ she replied. ‘Angela is a good friend.’

Rayner’s 法律. When Tories are (刑事)被告 of 悪事を働くこと, they have to 証明する their innocence 公然と. But if you’re a member of Starmer’s 影をつくる/尾行する 閣僚? Friendship and a vague 保証/確信 of rectitude would seem to be enough.

When this スキャンダル broke, I thought it would follow the classic political template. The offences for whi ch Rayner was (刑事)被告 were 比較して minor but her 失敗 to 供給する transparency would be what 損失d her. ‘It’s not the offence, it’s the cover-up.’

The Mail on Sunday 前線 page

But what’s 現実に doing the 損失 to her ? and her leader, and her party ? isn’t 現実に the cover-up. It’s the grotesque, unashamedly naked 二塁打 基準s on 陳列する,発揮する as Rayner’s 法律 is 起訴するd with such ferocity.

Sitting at the heart of this whole sorry 事件/事情/状勢 ? just as it always seems to do when it’s a 事例/患者 of 労働 skulduggery ? is the Dodgy Dossier. The mysterious 報告(する)/憶測 Rayner (人命などを)奪う,主張するs has been produced for her by ‘独立した・無所属’ 税金 専門家s, 証明するing she broke no 支配するs when she sold her home.

But when she was asked if this 文書 would be published, she replied: ‘I don’t need to publish all of my 詳細(に述べる)s… It’s not fair on my family for that (警察などへの)密告,告訴(状) to be out there.’

Which will have surprised 保守的な MP Jill Mortimer. In 2021, she was standing in the hotly contested Hartlepool 補欠選挙, when it 現れるd she had spent time living with her former husband in the Caymans.

労働 すぐに 発射 off a letter to Tory Party 議長,司会を務める Amanda Milling, 需要・要求するing: ‘In the 利益/興味s of transparency, will you now publish a 十分な account of Jill Mortimer’s time in the Cayman Islands? Will you also order Jill Mortimer to publish in 十分な her 税金 returns covering that period?’

The 影をつくる/尾行する 大臣 who authored this missive 需要・要求するing transparency from Mortimer and her husband? You’ve guessed it. Angela Rayner.

At the beginning of his leadership, Sir Keir Starmer piously 宣言するd: ‘As a 事柄 of 原則 for me, it’s very important we have honour, 正直さ and accountability in politics.’

But now we know the truth. It’s hypocrisy, not honour, that will form the cornerstone of his party’s 行政.

Rather than embrace 正直さ, he and his 大臣s will practise insolent 回避, buttressed by self-serving cronyism.

Accountability? That’s for chumps. ‘Do as we say, not as we do’ will be his 政府’s mantra. One 支配する for 労働. Another 支配する for everyone else. It’s Rayner’s 法律. And woe betide those of us plebs who forget it.
